BnB

Food is good, service is passable, ambience is nice. And it's one of the few places in town where one can get Goan sausage. But the place does give out an odd vibe. I could never place it, but after reading blr.bytes' review, may be it's the private party feel. Guess there are too many regulars there and I'm not one of them? Waiters are not friendly enough? Don't know. Anyway, I try and be in Opus every Thursday for Booze 'n' Brains. The way they are set up (A/V rounds, permanent score board, T-shirts, the obvious camaraderie BnB organizers and Opus owners share etc.), I doubt BnB will move out of there any time soon. So, though not by choice, I will continue being an Opus patron.

i'm lovin' it

"Sometimes you want to go, Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came..."

Tavern is my Cheers.

Love the draught beer, the smoke filled air, the waiters. Love that they fall all over themselves to seat me whenever I walk in. Love the DJ, love the uncomfortable high chairs, love accidentally banging my head on the low ceiling. And loved it even when they stopped serving Old Monk. Have spent way too many nights, had so many moments, blown much money in this place. And I'm still lovin' it.

Next time you're in Tavern, make eye contact with a waiter, raise your class and shout "YOCTO". You might get the drink free -:)

Mallu mess

Kairali is not for everyone. Especially veggies. It caters to hard core fish/beef/rabbit/crab eating malAyalees. I used to work in the area and had the good fortune of being a Kairali regular for a couple of years. Idiyappam for break fast, stand up shots in next door wine shop followed by fish curry meals (unlimited brown rice, sambhar and "sambharam" - butter milk) with aavoli (white pomfret) "double fry" for lunch, tea and fish/chicken/beef cutlets and pazham pori ("banana batter fry") for tea, and chapathi (mallu style!) and beef fry to line the stomach before hitting the pubs. Very lucky SWMBO digs the place, so get to go back there once in a while.

Bengaluru

I am not big into travel collectibles. But one thing I like doing is to get drunk at HRC in every city I visit (if it has one, i.e.) and pick up the T-shirt. And since I'm a vain mofo, I only buy ones which state the location loud and clear. Can't buy HRC T-shirts in my hometown Bangalore though, 'cos they don't have one in Bangalore. The one closest to where I stay is in Bengaluru... Ben ga lloo rru. Bletch!

Memories

Booze n Brains used to be here the first few years. Pub quizzing is addictive... especially when you like alcohol! Was a regular on Thursday nights, till they moved BnB to Opus. Drank a lot, won a lot. Good times!
