Awful
I visited Kareem’s on October 9th, 2008, (Dusshera) in the evening.
It was early, so we found a table easily.
We ordered a Fish Tikka Ajwaini, a chicken dish, a paneer dish, bhuna gosht, roti and some beverage.
We waited for our food for about 30 minutes before we decided to ask the waiter “how much longer” before our order is served. He scurried into the kitchen and didn’t return for a long time.
We then called another gentleman, who we figured was the manager, and asked him the same question and as if he already knew the question, he said in another 5 minutes. I then asked him that normally restaurants serve light snacks like papad etc while we wait for the food and that if they serve anything like that here. He said yes and sent us all of 3 papads for a table of 4!!!
Later, by the time the food eventually arrived, it was close to 45 minutes after placing the order!
Commentary on the food: Roti, passable and for Rs. 23.00, whopping expensive
Chicken Mehti: The chicken didn’t taste like it was marinated right or cooked in the same gravy. There was something missing.
The paneer just had 3 pieces of paneer and charged at about Rs.160.00 (or something!)
The Bhuna Gost Roll probably was the only item that did any justice and it was relished by my friend.
The biggest disappointment was the Fish Tikka. After consuming 1 piece, I realised that it was absolutely raw inside and absolutely unacceptable.
Of course we raised the complaint to the manager immediately who came up to my table, picked up a fork from another table and checked the morsel on my plate itself before confirming that the fish was indeed undercooked. He offered to change the plate and send us another plate of Tikkas, we politely declined.
We paid our bill, (the Tikka’s wasn’t charged, appreciate that) and left. Oddly, one of the waiters came to us asking me for my name and phone number in case somebody wanted to contact me regarding the Fish that wasn’t charged.
This was the second time that I visited Kareem’s for a meal. I knew that this was a grossly overpriced place for the quality it served. I had hoped that things would have changed over the last few months. This experience proved otherwise.
Overall, a disappointing experience. The ambience was laid low with the music. They played only Kandisa over and over again. The cutlery was difficult to handle especially when you are eating non-vegetarian. The glasses didn’t quite suit the overall expectation.
The price of the dishes was expensive if you consider the quality and quantity.
Of course the service was waaaaay below expectation.
Never again!
