Excellent

A flower that's always fresh!

This place must be around for almost 10 years now. But believe me these guys have managed to keep up the consistent quality of the food and service. Even the interiors & furnishings look stunningly fresh, its really ** well-maintained considering the crowd that pours in. It's usually packed on Sunday nights but it's so well-staffed that you will rarely find yourself looking for the bearer to help you with your next order. The service is just impeccable and it's consistent through, from the Manager to the Valet guys downstairs. After seeing this place, I think most places today lack service because they are under-staffed - Orchid's just know what it takes. Not once have I been disappointed here.

Regarding the food, they have a pretty extensive Italian menu, their preparations particularly with seafood are simply amazing. I have never tried the Indian or the Chinese here but I am sure it should be pretty decent.

This is what we ordered last night:

** Sweet Corn Seafood Soup - mom had that. Rs. 100/-
** Bruchetta Rs 110/-
** Portion of Garlic Bread 60/-
** Gamberetti Alla Senape: King Prawns in a creamy mustard sauce *Highly Recommended* Rs 325/-
** Lasagna Verde Al Forno: Layers of home made pasta with spinach in cheesy tomatoes sauce and baked Rs. 160/-
** Insalata Dela Casa: Assorted pastas and veg flavoured with burnt garlic. and papprica along with a dash of lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. Rs. 140/-
** Diet Pepsi Rs.60/-
** Caramel Custard (totally skip this one, it didnt have molecule anything close to caramel) Rs 60/-
** Whisky Soda Rs. 149/-
** Total 1266/- (inclusive of taxes)

Not bad, what say?

Jai Coastal!

I have been to this place ever since it was 'literally' nothing more than a Lunch Home. Usually, when such 'holes in the wall' slicken up - the quality of the food drops to a large extent. Fortunately this place, even though has been pimped out the food has the same authenticity! The interiors are basic and comfortable, the seating layout does a pretty good job so as to cater to larger groups of six to four to a couple.

I'll start with the menu, I was particularly impressed since it had a lot to say about how sensitive they were to this family of cuisines. The menu was divided by region:

1.) Coastal Karnataka,
2.) Goan,
3.) Konkan Belt,
4.) Malwani - is your mouth watering already? I was totally drooling by the last page... ;-)

Now for the order:
1 Chicken Saguti Rs 80
1 Ajadina Prawns Rs 90 (Dry & spicy)
2 Chaas @ 20 each Rs 40
3 Neer Dosa @ 30 each Rs 90
Total Rs 338 with taxes.

The food was more than yummy, the Adjina Prawns are highly recommended. It was one of the most VFM meals have had in a long time.

With the quality of food and especially their pricing, entities like Mahesh Lunch home will get wiped out from this planet.

As i sign-off, I will keep wishing that my office one day shifts to Lower Parel :-)

Perfect Breakfast Prograam!

I have been wanting to write a review on this place for a long time now. It's my perfect Sunday Breakfast spot, the stuff here is so fresh and tasty, its just unbeliveable. Punjabi's & Sindhi's would surely know the difference - the Chole-Bature served in any of the regular restaurants V/S Vig which is a class apart. This is authentic stuff baby! The BEST part is the khatta (sour) masala that they sprinkle on the Kulcha's and the Chole, that IS totally the formula of good tasting north-indian snacks!

The Dal-Pakwaan is one of my favorite dishes here. Unfortunately, it never sees the light of the afternoon since its totally sold out during breakfast hours. Another feature worth mentioning is the 10 inch long steel glasses in which they serve chaas, Absolute Beauty! Its like a ticket to Punjab!

Everything here tastes heavenly and at a super reasonable price. Here's what we ordered the last time i visited.

1 Onion Kulcha
1 Aloo Kulcha
2 Chaas
2 Lassi
3 Chole Bature
1 Dal Pakwaan
Total Rs 192

Insist on dropping by this place if you ever drop by in Chembur!

Poor

...or rather Make-Shift Coffee Shop!

Hawaiian Shak shuts shop, only option after that is Enigma. Land up there and its about to shut too. Ok now what, lets have a coffee at Lotus. So here we are- "Excuse me, table for 7?" "It's going to take 45 minutes, Sir". I look at my watch it's 2 freaking 30... 45 minutes- i obviously don't have the energy to wait. "Guys, any other option?"... "Yes, i know of 24/7 Coffee Shop nearby" ... "Sounds Good! Ok Done, lets move!"

So '24/7 Coffee Shop' a place just next door no matter how promising it sounded instantly landed up in "My List of the Most Random Spots in Mumbai" WTF is this place all about man? (For all the old-school party animals this is the backyard of what used to be Razberry Rhinosaurus)

Quite obviously, this place just finished up with a grand wedding reception of some sort, the decorators were still cleaning up, chairs all stacked up. The buffet counters were still laid up right next to our table. I would never hang out here if it wasn't for a freind who was starving his guts out. Anish (http://mumbai.burrp.com/user/anishtripathi), i wish you had eaten earlier I wouldn't have had to put up with this place.

Anyways, not expecting much from this place I asked the waiter what kind of coffee they served. "Sir Nescafe". Dicy, but I can handle it. "Do one thing, just get make it seperate. I'll make my own coffee". Nescafe can taste really bad in such places, so a little bit of my own craft might just help, i thought. I was obviously expecting black coffee, with some milk and sugar seperately, which wasn't the case. It was coffee powder, sugar & milk- two whole flasks of it, instead. I tried calling out to these guys, but no one was interested. Anyways, I made my coffee, as good as i could, how difficult is it afterall to make a good cup of coffee?

Now for the real thing... the moment I sipped that coffee, I shit you not, this coffee erased all the memories of coffee that I have ever had. The milk had surely turned sour. It tasted wierd. I complained, and the waiter just nodded and walked away. My friend ordered for a Paneer Makhanwala which was supposed to be pretty decent.

In the bill, these guys actually charged for the coffee, that too 100 bucks! I called the manager and i told him that i wasn't going to pay for it- it was wierd and the milk was bad. Guess what he tells me- "Sir, it's bad coz you made the coffee, you should have asked us to make it"... "W-T-F? Are u serious?" Anyways, I had a long arguement with him, and finally agreed not to charge me, which i have given one star for- chal aish kar (go have fun!)

The crowd is pretty random and the coffee- you know all about it so please enter at your own risk! However for hungry souls it might just be your last option :-) Double Impact for you guys!

Good

Subway- better buck up!

Considering the fact that the delivery boy looked pretty spaced out when he entered (he admitted that he's new in town and joined recently) plus the fact that Pop-Tates is quite far from our office, the food was here in about 40 Minutes. Not that great a timing but the guy on the phone was honest enough to let me know that the order could be a little late since it was a busy day at the restaurant. A pretty heavty, juicy Grilled Chicken Club with some fries for Rs 102.50 inclusive of all taxes - not bad eh? It sure did fill my stomach right - just what I needed on a late lunch.

Definitely a better option than Subway which is around the corner. I particularly didn't like the SW here in Andheri-East I don't if it's the bread or the Veggies but they are just not juicy enough.

I am surely going to opt-in for good 'ol' Pops when I feel like a Sandwich and so should you :-)
