Excellent

Excellent Japanese rest.

Very good sushi, even better shabu shabu. Compares favorably with Japanese food at equivalent restaurants in the US and Japan.

Beautiful surroundings. Clueless staff and the high prices take something away fom the experience, though. Clearly they are not relying on volume for revenue.

Average

Great ambience, above average food

Enough has been said about the decor on these posts. I agree, the interior is spectacular. My experience with the service echoes the thoughts of earlier reviews. We arrived for lunch at 12:45, and the place was maybe 30% full. Even so, the waiter managed to get our order mixed up with another table, and actually served me someone else's chicken kababs, which, a couple of minutes later were whisked away from under my nose. Reminded me of Manuel in Fawlty Towers. Later on, when we were trying to leave, with the restaurant now full, it took quite a while before we could settle the bill and make our exit.

The food was good. Not great, just good. We had a mince meat on bread appetizer and kakori kebabs (I've had better.. these were a little too oily). While the alu gobi and daal were pretty run of the mill, the Railway mutton curry was the only dish that stood out. Again, it fell short of perfect, with slightly underdone potatoes.

I've heard a colleague rave about the Ataa Chicken and the Biriyani, so I do plan to go back.

Good

Great bar, too much smoke

I strongly feel bars should make rules about smoking in Bangalore. It will be good for business (contrary to what people would have you believe). My work buddies and I love this place otherwise --- has great taste in rock music, and has a pleasant laid back ambience. The appetizers are to die for - the masala peanuts, American Chilly Corn, Chilly Lamb and Chicken Three flavours are our favorites.

Excellent

Best North Indian food in Bangalore (so far)

No place like Queens. If you haven't been there, weep. Angeethi is a serious challenger to the throne, but Queens squeaks by on several counts.

We are steadily working our way through their menu and haven't been disappointed yet. No surprises on the menu -- standard Punjabi fare, but their secret seems to be super fresh ingredients, and meticulous execution on time tested recipes.

Good

Tad expensive, but worthwhile

Why waste your money on 5 star hotel restaurants (like the disaster that is Blue Ginger @ the Taj) when you can have the near-perfect dining experience at Olive Beach?

Tucked away in a residential neighbourhood not far from the madding crowds of Richmond Rd, Olive Beach is a fine dining restaurant, though, as far as we could make out, less Meditteranean, than "new age" American. When there are things on the menu that most folks have trouble pronouncing, you know the place is either pretentious, or just plain good. Olive Beach is good. Not perfect, but good. Very good.

We ordered a cheese platter as an appetizer, couple of glasses of Merlot (an Indian one and a French, just to compare --- no prizes for guessng which won), and a wild mushroom soup to get started. The cheeses were good --- usual suspects, Brie, Camembert, Edam, and a couple of Italian ones which I wish I remember the names of. As a main course, I got a steak (yes - medium well was in fact, understood and well executed) , and a seared tuna. The tuna fell short ... no blood red insides, the way it's supposed to be, but pinkish in teh deepest areas, and sadly chewy on the outsides.

Dessert - a white chocolate parfait, was more than perfect, and made up for the tiny-tuna problems.

Service was good, what you would expect when you're shelling out 4 figures for a meal, but the waiter, while good natured, and polite, did not come across as super knowledgeable.

We heard that OB has a food sale on last Saturdays of every month - that might be a good place to pick up some specialty mushrooms, and wine!

We also read that they have a location in New Delhi with the Qutb Minar as the backdrop.
