Excellent

Out of The World!!

So I finally made it to Out of The Blue after much delay and despair. With tables already booked we did not have to wait outside (though confusion amongst the gang led us to book 2 tables instead of one!!) The hostess, who was extremely helpful, helped us out of the whole conundrum by directing us to where the rest of the gang was sitting!
Anyways, getting back to the review, the first thing that hit me about the place (besides the courteous hostess) was the decor and ambiance. Till date, I haven't been to a place where I wanted to stay longer not because of the food but for the look and feel of the place. It also has a live singing performance which adds to the whole experience of dining at Out of The Blue.
Fast forwarding to our orders, we first started off with drinks and a starter. Drinks included, Cinderalla, Virgin Pincolada, Blue Driver, Italian Kiss and Guava Fizz. Fortunately for me, I could try out all these drinks. They also have a pretty impressive selection of wines and hard drinks as well. The only think I can really say is, order what you want, you will not be disappointed in the drinks departments. The mocktails, were made out of fresh fruits which was quite evident from the taste.
The starter, Cottage Cheese CorianderJalepenos Paneer, was yummy though a bit bland.
We also ordered for the Cheese Fondue which was quite filling and we were unsure whether after that we could possible have the main course. However, we decided, why not so ordered for: Paneer Steak Paprika, Chicken and Prawn pasta, Chicken Masala Mafia, Grill Breast Chicken and the Desi Veg shaslik.
The Italian stuff was quite good though the quantity of chicken and prawns was a little less than say what you get at Da Vinci, but the penne was awesome and the quantity good as well!
The veg sizzlers were a delight really. The Paprika Sauce was just something quite extra ordinary. between the two who ordered the veg sizzlers, nearly 5 servings of Paprika sauce were shared!!!
My friend, who thought he ordered a sizzlers but ended up ordering a BBQ, was served the BBQ as a sizzler on request (yes yes with cheese on top of it!), which I thought was a really good gesture from the management.
We paid Rs.3262 for a sumptuous meal coupled with an amazing ambiance, very very courteous hostesses/waiters/management and a live performance from a really good singer! It was a delightful sight to see people singing along!
Out of The Blue is definitely on my list of 'special dining places for special occasions'. And just for the record, we were celebrating our friend's birthday!

Good

Good food less quantity

I have been to bombay blues quite a lot of times before and interestingly never tried the Indian food here. So me and friend (who actually insisted on Indian food in the first place) good down to picking up something nice and yummy. So we zeroed in on Paneer Makhan Masala and Butter Naan. We also ordered Onion Rings and Lemon Iced Tea.
Starting with the onion rings, man they were oily. Almost gave me a heart attack. It would have been a really good starter had it not been for the tonne of oil dripping incessantly from the rings.
Next up was the Paneer Makhan Masala which was pretty good and suited both our palates. The quantity though was questionable as it was quite less even for someone who doesn't eat a lot. (I am talking about my friend here). There is something about the naans in Bombay Blues, I could eat them without any dish, they are just that tasty. The Lemon Iced Tea was good as usual. Never had any complaints against their Iced Tea yet.
Finally on the pricing front we paid:
Iced Tea - 89
Paneer Makhan Masala - 130
Onion Rings - 100

A tad too expensive this place, especially considering the low quantity and the high prices. The ambiance though is quite good, very comfy and is quite spacious with enough rooms between tables. Also has a nice and comfy sofa at the edges for that comfortable evening date.
Overall a good dining experience, good service and good food.

Descent Non-veg....

Me and 3 of my friends were wanting to try out a new diner this weekend and decided to check out our favourite haunt - carter road - for any place overlooked by us previously. And yes there was one such eatery, last in the line of the famed khau galli is this relatively new place which serves Lebanese and Mughlai food.
All of us were pretty hungry so ordered for the main course which consisted of Paneer Makhani and Chicken Lakori and butter rotis. Getting down to business, the rotis (Atleast the first round) was cold, there wasn't event a hint of heat in the rotis (it was as if the rotis were already ready and served with hot melted butter) which really put us off. Secondly, the veg quantity was quite less and to top of it all the makhani was quite tasteless - the paneer bland and so was the gravy and oh it was yellow in colour. I thought makhani is red and spicy?
The non veg though, Chicken Lakori, was quite the opposite. Very tender and yummy chicken and spicy as well. The quantity was almost double the veg dish which was quite a sore sight for my veggie friends.
Coming back to the menu, the starters are in the range of Rs.100 while the main course is around Rs.100-150. The menu is quite limited in the drinks department with water, coke, and apple/orange juice (canned not fresh).
We paid around Rs.80 each, quite cheap I must say and as far as the non veggies were concerned, it was value for money though the same view was not shared by the veggies.
Lastly, ambiance wise its an open air restaurant with no air-condition facilities. There are six tables which can seat approximately 20 people. So the place is more suited for take away orders than dining.
Roundup:
Cons: Cold rotis, quite less quantity for veg food and hardly any drinks on the menu.
Pros: Good tasty non-veg food and good quantity as well. Not atall heavy on the wallet like some of the other places on Carter Road.

So..So..

I had for long time wanted to try out Mini Punjab and finally got a chance this week when my team decided to go out for lunch on a pleasant Wednesday afternoon.
From the outside it looked like a good enough place. From the inside, well, it was small and claustrophobic. The construction of the place is rather weird and one gets the feeling that most of the space is occupied by walls! Funnily, looked like a restaurant cum bar to me though offcourse the place does not serve alcohol. Anyways, we had to switch on the A/C (yes we did it ourselves) and it finally felt like we were inside an A/C hall.
Moving on to the food, we were 7 of us so it was going to be a big feast! We quickly ordered for starters, main course and drinks in that order.
Starters constituted of Paneer Chilly, Paneer Tikka and Pahadi Kebab. The Paneer Chilly was the best starter dish any of us have had in a while. It wasn't very spicy, but just about enough to make me take a few sips of water. The Pahadi Kebab was a bit weird. I think it was cooked in mustard oil (or whichever oil it was, it was too much oil!). The chicken wasn't tender and quite dry as well. It looked liked it was burnt rather than cooked in some masala. Paneer Tikka was a let down as well, it was quite bland and hardly any flavour other than that of bland paneer.
Moving on to the main course, we ordered for Chicken Kadai, Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer Kadai, Jeera Rice, Dal Fry, Rotis, Naans and Aloo Parathas.
Starting from the Best: Paneer kadai. Absolutely lip smackingly delicious. The Jeera Rice was very good. Not too dry, not too oily, just right. I cannot eat rice without a side dish such as dal, but this one I could. The Dal Fry, was delicious as well, once i had that, I forgot all the chicken in my plate and hogged much of the remaining Dal Fry.
Sadly, it was the non-veg dishes that weren't so good. While the Chicken Kadai had four pieces of chicken and water thin gravy, the Chicken Tikka Masala had a sparse quantity of chicken with thick gravy which did not taste like chicken tikka atall.
The rotis weren't so good either. Lots of butter on em which is sure to give someone a heart attack. The Parathas on the other hand though were very very good. Again, not very oily and stuffed with mashed aloo and herbs.
Next up were the drinks, I had the lassi which I thoroughly enjoyed. The rest ordered for fresh lime water.
On the service part, we were served well until the place got packed with some women after which the waiters just didn't come to our table! It took more time to call them for the bill and subsequently collect the bill than the time taken to bring the order!
On the pricing front we paid Rs.1286 overall. Here is the breakdown:
Aloo Paratha - Rs.30 (Worth very penny)
Butter Naan - Rs.25
Butter Roti - Rs. 15
Roti - 12
Chicken Kadai - Rs. 150 (Not worth the price)
Dal Fry - Rs.80 (Extremely good)
Fresh Lime Water - Rs.25
Jeera Fried Rice - Rs.85
Lassi - Rs.30
Paneer Chilly - Rs.120 (Good but expensive)
Pahadi Kebab - Rs.150 (Too expensive)
Paneer Kadai - Rs. 130 (The best of the lot)
Paneer Tikka - Rs.120 (Again, too expensive)

The pricing of some of the products was ridiculous considering the fact that the food was not tasty and the quantity was less as well. They are taking advantage of their location.
Overall, not really a recommended place for its high prices and not so good dishes.

Expected better

New Yorker is one of the better eateries in the city, or so we thought. It has that 'Very Expensive' feel to it though in my opinion it is a much cheaper place than say Mochas.
I like the posters on the wall, pictures from all across the city, in black and white. Really nice! (Thinking of getting something like that done in my room!)

Food:
Anyways, moving on to the food, first up was the Ice Tea followed by Swiss Cheese Fondue, Pinwheel Cannelloni and Bruschetta.
The ice tea, was a real downer, tasted like lemon juice. Not even a hint of tea in there!
The Cheese Fondue, hmm, I'd give it a 4/5 for being cheaper than Mochas and a little bit better as well. The melted cheese was much thicker that expected and was not bad at all. We got good quantity of side servings as well, good enough for two people at least (We were four of us).
Next up was the Pinwheel Cannelloni which had a lot more gravy (made primarily out of tomatoes) than stuff inside the Cannelloni. Though the waiter told us that it serves two people, I have serious doubts whether it can even serve one person. Pinwheel Cannelloni wasn't very filling so we ordered for something small, Bruschetta. (ya ya its a starter which we ordered after the main course, ha ha!) Bruschetta is essentially garlic bread but bigger and better. Its like Version 2.0 of Garlic Bread! Jokes aside, Bruschetta was by far the best item so far. Laced with mozzarella cheese, it was quite a treat.

Price:
Iced Lemon Tea - Rs.69
Swiss Cheese Fondue - Rs.175
PinWheel Cannelloni - Rs.179
Bruschetta - Rs.89

Service:
The service was not upto the mark. The waiters took their own sweet times to come to the table when called. This when the place was relatively empty. He took quite a long time to return back with the credit card too. I didn't expect such shoddy service from a place like New Yorker.

Verdict:
Overall the place was not so bad but could be better, especially in the food and service department. The 3-star rating signifies, that though some food items maybe worthwhile the rest are just not worth for the price you pay for it.
