Great ambience and service but food disappoints

Decided to go to Orchid seeing all the good reviews. Went early so got a place quite easily despite being a Sunday. The place is nicely done and has a great ambience. Got on to a good start and was really looking forward to the food.

Decided to fo for Italian and ordered a tomato soup flavoured with basil, bruschetta and a custom made pasta in red sauce with toppings.

The soup was served with two slices of garlic bread. It was not bad but I expected something more reading the description. It was like your usual tomato soup. The bruschetta was more like garlic bread with cheese and a tomato base.Overall the food was not bad but not something I was expecting from an Italian restaurant. The saving grace was the pasta. The sauce was really good. That was totally worth it.

Service: Very good, the waiters know what they are doing and do it well. He also mentioned that canelloni or ravioli was not their forte and recommended another dish. Was extremely impressed by the level of professionalism. Also came to check if the food was ok.

Overall not a bad experience but nothing extraordinary that I would want to repeat.

VFM...Excellent Service

Was really anticipating visiting this place after reading all the great reviews and winning a gift voucher from burrp! Had gone for the Sunday brunch. It is a smallish restaurant so better if you book and go. The place is well done in tones of white (what else :) ).

There was a buffet for the appetizers and desserts while you had to order the mocktails and entree from the menu. For the veg there 3 - 4 salads, 2 soups, 3 -4 appetizers, variety of breads and accompaniments like spreads, olives, sun dried tomatos, olive oil, vinegar.

For the entree they had 2 veg pizzas, 3 pasta sauces with the toppings you want, bruschetta (Didn't understand why that would be part of your main course) aad gnocchi.

Ordered penne in basil pesto with mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and olives, Margherita pizza. The pasta was really good but somehting was wrong ith the pizza. Can't put my finger on what exactly was wrong.I was told that maybe since it is a wood fire pizza but then these are served in a lot of other places as well.

They also have a live omlet station and a cheese platter with an unusual selection that you normally don't find like goat cheese.

For the dessert the had plain croissants (found that a bit wierd), raisin danish, chocolate tart, peach torte, caramel custard, some pineapple cake and waffles with honey, maple syrup or ice cream. Tried a bit of everything. The peach torte was amazing.

Service: I must say I was very impressed with the service. Among the best I have seen. The manager came twice to ask us if everything was ok.

Damages: Its Rs 450 incl taxes per person plus Rs 450 if you want unlimited alcohol.

Verdict: Was a bit disappointed with the food but it is value for money and the service is excellent.

P.S - In the feedback form I had mentioned that we weren't too happy with the pizza. I actually got a call from the chef inquiring what was wrong and if there was anything they could do. That is taking good service to a different level.

If they keep up this attitude I'm sure this would become among the best Italian places to go to.

Amazing Decor

The place is huge and is subdivided into many small sub sections. Just love the way they have done up the restaurant. One of the most amazing interiors I have seen.

The food and service was fine. Though the taste was quite different.

Only problem is you don't get proper network inside so don't go if you're expecting an imp call.

When can we get some authentic crepes ?

Was quite excited to see the menu since they had soo many options in the sweet and salted crepes. Tried the crepizza and nutella. Fun to see how they make the crepe.

First of all the crepes were hand held and the paper was really had to tear so had to keep going to them to have it cut. The crepe itself was nice but nothing extraordinary. More like a roll but a crepe instead of a roomali roti. It contained onion, capsicum and mushrooms in a sauce.

My friend ate the Nutella one where they put it on one part of the crepe rolled it up and added ice cream. The result was almost like having ice cream in a soft cone with a spoon, very inconvienient. And you could barely taste the nutella.

Service: I think the guy was a bit clueless. He asked me if i wanted to add mayo or mint mayo. Can you even eat it with that ?

Damages: Crepes range from Rs 40 - 55 while the Nutella one is double at Rs 95.

Verdict: Better than Crepe Station ? Yes any day. But am still waiting for someone to serve good authentic crepes without needing the frills to make up.

Quaint Little Place

This is a small place which you can easily miss if you're not looking for it.

It is a small place with few outdoor tables. Not sure if they have an A/C section. They have done it up nicely with lights and all on the hedges giving it a secluded feel. The best thing is it is quite empty so you can have the place all to yourself.

It has a very limited menu but totally worth it. Ordered a Jalepeno poppers, a veg club sandwhich and caramel custard.

The poppers were more cheese than jalepenos but since my friend had a yearning for something cheesy she loved it. They made the club sandwich with brown bread as per my request. It was huge and two people can easily share if not tooo hungry. The filling had zucchini, broccoli in a masala gravy and a slice of paneer. Was yum without worrying too much about the calories. My friend loved the caramel custard especially da fact that it was soo cheap.

Service was good and the waiters knew the menu and what exactly went into it unlike a lot of small places where the waiters are clueless.

Damages: Rs 250

Definately going to frequent this place more often.
