Have been to Shiok a number of times and have always been delighted. This time however we made the mistake of deviating from our normal choices - tom yom soup, satay, mee / nasi gorengs, red curries and went with some crispy chicken and veg stir fries. was a disappointment - the crispy chicken was not crispy at all and the veggies lacked the freshness that you would associate with stir fries.Had to ask for extra chilli sauces to try and make the food tasty. Anyways, given that we love this place, will put this particular outing to being an exception and still recommend Shiok to all those folks who want to try out authentic S E Asian food.

The Royal Orchid, 1 Golf Avenue, Airport Road, Bangalore
Rated: Excellent
located in the 1st floor of the royal orchid hotel - next to the KGA. parking is not a problem - they have valet parking. ambience is awesome - you might even believe that you've been transported to some upmarket restaurant in Singapore / HK. lots of space, very quiet - the place to goto if you just want to catch up over an excellent dinner. they even have a family area which is slightly secluded and you may want to make reservations for it - seats about 10 / 12 i think.
the best SE food i've had in Blore (other than the 5 stars). great dumplings - they just melt in your mouth. the sea food is unbelieveably good and the portions are generous. most of the lamb dishes i've tried have passsed with flying colors. although they do have a lunch buffet, haven't tried that out as yet.
the sushi bar could have had a better menu and that's probably the only bad thing i can say about this place and also the fact that it's slightly on the expensive side.
service is good and ubiquitous.
no wonder they got the Times Food award for the best SE Asian restaurant!

excellent snacks and meals, good collection of teas - ok what else do you want? :)
try the momos and the grilled / burnt fish - good stuff. the salads are just right - not the gooey mayo stuff that you get all over the town.
the photgraphs of dajeeling all over the places gets me nostalgic whenever we visit the place. do go there - gets a little crowed due to corporates and schools / colleges being in the same area but the good thing is that you can park your vehicle right across the street in the parking lot of Sigma mall!

L1, Leela Galleria, The Leela Palace Kempinski, 23 Airport Road, Bangalore
Rated: Good
wonderful location - at the leela galleria. nice seating arrangement and most times you will not have to wait for the table.
what can you write about a place that has around 50 types of teas on its menu? do try the great darjeeling teas they have on their menu but pls pls pls do not ask for milk when you order the exquisite darjeeling teas. a bit of sugar is ok but not milk. some interesting teas from the far east are worth a try.
you do get some good salads and sandwiches although i would steer clear of the potato and chili pakoras.
would you like some tea?

No. 30, 80 Ft Road, 4th Block, Koramanagala, Bangalore
Rated: Average
had heard a lot about this place and decided to check it out over the weekend. A good turnout for dinner inspite of the downpour suggested that wait might be worth it after all.
Nice decor and good space inside (although some brash foreigners were bent upon making sure that everyone in the restaurant heard what they were sayting). ordered the chicken reshmi kabab and the chickent biriyani. the kababs were ok - nothing great but ok....no melts in your mouth stuff.
had to wait for the main attraction - the chicken biriyani. at first sight you could make out that it was going to be a let down. the rice had been overcooked and the individual grains looked like they had been mashed partially. now, as any biriyani connoisseur will tell you, the individual rice grains should not stick together like in a khichidi! the chicken pieces tasted like they had been prepared for some other dish (some kebabs maybe) and the rice just didn't have the flavor of the biriyani. oh man....such a let down. can't imagine how the biriyani at this place has got a good rating. at best the biriyani was like a chicken pulao!
Bangalore.....still waiting for some restaurant to better the biriyani of samarkhand!!
