Awesome Chinese Food with Good Ambience

I visited the China Grill last month with my sis-in-laws and we were really pleased with the food served there. We ordered for some starters and soup, that itself was quite filling.. Then we had Singapore noodles which also was yummy.

Pros :
1. Ambience is good
2. Good place to visit with both friends and family
3. Food is not very spicy or oily , so its good for the tummy :) but yet tasty
4. They serve wine and selected drinks as well.

Great Ambience, Delicious Food!

My wife's a big fan of Chinese food! So I end up in Chinese Restaurants more often than I'd like to. But this place I actually found quite nice! Apart from Mainland China, most other Chinese restaurants are small and dingy and have a QSR feel. But China Grill is really Classy. Food is authentic stuff! Quality is superb. Would definitely recommend it to friends!

Fancy place but so worth it :)

This place has good food to offer and better yet a fancy seating area. I love the fact that it has a sophisticated surrounding... kinda like Royal China or Mainland China and even though it is a little expensive, It is worth every penny. You always feel like your food is worth paying for especially when it is tasty and in heavy quantities right ? So if you are looking for a good meal and a classy atmosphere... China Grill is the place to be :D

Amazing Experience

Definitely one of the best chinese restaurants in Pune. The food is delicious and different than others. I had the Crispy Spinach as starters and it was really tasty and the jumbo prawns in hunan sauce was divine ! It was a very well prepared meal and the service was also good. What i most loved about the place was the ambiance. It has a nice classy feel to it with low lighting and the most elegant lounge have ever seen. The experience to sit there and enjoy food is completely worth the prices on the menu. Beautiful place to enjoy lovely food.

One of the best Chinese restaurant in town.....

It is undoubtedly a big scorer among the Chinese restaurants I have been to in Pune. Every time i have been there...they have been up to the mark. Never dissapointed. They have a beautiful ambiance giving you a little taste of china itself. nothing over done. The staff is really humble. great and quick service at very affordable price. Lemon Pepper Chicken soup, Chicken Friend Rice, Prawn Schzewan rice and chicken manchurian and chicken in garlic sauce are my favorites to name a few. The Sizzling Brownie is an awesome finish to the great meals. To have a great experience of Chinese food all you need to do is just walk in and grab a seat. Bon Appetit!!! :)

"Alert for Veggies"

Veggie Guys,

Be careful! You may find pieces of chicken in your veg soup. Yes, they did apologize for the same but would have been glad if the manager would have compensated for the same.

A wonderful experience...

While we have been to the China Grill umpteen times, I never got around sharing my experiences. As I like to pen my reviews while the taste (good or bad) still lingers, after tonight's experience there I felt I shouldn't put it off any longer.
This cozy place has been our family choice for a long time. It was my very finicky Dad's favorite too.
The ambience is very nice, muted, subtle, but yet elegant. And they have managed to arrange the seating and lighting so well that every table has its privacy.
The two hosts (should've got their names!! Will do nxt time) keep monitoring attentively yet unobtrusively and were always at hand to ensure every guest is happy.
The stewards and waiters too are courteous, knowledgeable, efficient, and ever helpful.
Coming to the most important part: The Food -
It has only improved. Certainly there had been a shady period in the past when the quality had suffered, but it really is a thing of the past.
The Manchow soup was tasty and fresh. The dry spicy prawn starter suggest by the host (name!!) was liked even by my son - a sworn prawn hater. The Peppery stuffed bean curd was vibrant with flavours, and the chef had managed to cook the Tofu just right. Unlike at most other places, Hakka Noodles here are not oily at all and go well with any main course. The Fiery Hot Lamb looked fiery indeed but didn't taste so; the 'Fire' did not mask the other ingredients that gave it a unique taste and texture. The lamb was succulent and well cooked.
The food here is fresh, balanced, and the portions sumptuous (We did not have any place left for the appealing Sizzling Brownie) and well priced. I always that feel liquor is overpriced at all restaurants, and so it is here too; but we go there for food.
Overall, A Wonderful experience, something that the Mainland China (you may like to read my review) and Chinese Room might choose to learn from.

Great food

i was a little unsure before coming here cuz everyone told me chinese room in camp is great but china grill isint the same. i must say i actually enjoyed china grill more than chinese room simply because the ambience and service was so. The food was great at both the places but China Grill was a better deal.

Quite satisfied with the food and the pricing was fine too

Good Chinese

China grill is a small restaurant though the ambiance is quite cool. The huge POP mural of laughing Buddha gives the place a nice spunk. Seating is not cramped despite it being a small place. One really good thing is the valet parking since it becomes quite tedious to park on this road esp during evenings.

They have quite an extensive menu . Iv been there several times n have tried a lot a stuff . I'l esp mention the dragon rolls and shanghai chicken from the starter menu. Drums of heaven are nice too. The portions are quite sufficient, if ur not careful u might end up with a really full tummy, just with the starters.. As for the main course, Hong Kong chicken Bbq style is super yummy n so is the chilly chicken, all the noodles are very well prepared too. Honey noodles with ice cream makes a gorgeous dessert.

The restaurant is not very expensive, my friend n i went there recently n ordered a good amount with starters n everything . It set us back by 700 rs, for the 3 of us.
The service here is excellent . Once we ordered a prawn dish but weren't quite happy with it, the server got us a new dish without a question, n we didn't pay anything extra. They have a good grip of the menu too n can usually answer all ur questions.

I wud have given it 3n1/2 stars but that rating isn't calibrated that way..:(
All in all a nice place to try

Food Quality is Going Down

In the wanwadi area, this is the only ONE decent Chinese joint.
Earlier the food quality was tooooooooooooo good but not anymore.

Either, their original chef has left them or they are taking clients for granted. It would be very much disappointed to see a good place going down, if they don't react early.

Im not sure, about the hygiene of meat they get, bcz other day while getting out after my lunch with family, got to see the delivery guy who brought the meat, it was in a very dirty bag, and looked filthy. For me..... this place is OUT.

Cost - moderate
Service - staff needs training n they keep changing
management is too eager to hush you out

One of the Best Few Chinese Restaurants of Pune

Great Ambiance, Great Food, Good lighting...the fact that you can see what you are actually eating. Very friendly hosts, right from the car valet person to the person taking your order. Friendly, jolly and suggestive. Food is so good, you can just ask the Big Fat guy( one senior waiter) to just bring in what he likes...and you shall surely love it. That's how good they are.

Price is very moderate for a joint like this.

Avoid Saturdays/Sunday; you would end up waiting in queue for a table and the waiters won't be able to give you that extra time at your table.

Bye Bye Chung Fa....Hello China Grill

I have visited this place 4-5 times now and everytime I have been here it has always been one great chinese-xperience. I have never gone back to Ching Fa after visiting this place coz this place provides me an excellent ambience, good quality food, varied menu and value for money (not to mention close to my place).

Very comfortable seatings with confy cushions and chairs. You will have seating inside as well as outside. China Grill also provides with a space above for private parties which i definetely would like to try once. The food is definetely its forte and you will get good variety of food for different taste buds. I am normally a hard-core meat-eater but have tried the vegeterian as well and I definetely recommend it for veggies. They also have a good collections of mocktails and juices that go very well with the food. To top it off the place is dirt cheap with a meal for 2 costing about 500-600 bucks.

I simply love the sizzling brownie with chocolate sauce. This is one place I always rush to when i dont have to think much about quality or price.

I mentioned in my earlier reviwe that i hadnt tried out the indian stuff but now that i have, i can totally vouch for it .. the makhani daal here is truly authentic .. the way punjabis prepare it .. and how would i know? heck i am a punjabi and have tried makhani daal at various places in pune but this one's the best :)

PS: my mommy approves too and she's a fab cook herself so lets give her opinion some credit

Something not expected

Hi All,
I visited China Grill for the first time on 13/10/2009, and I have to say, it has been one of the most pathetic dinners I have had in my life. The service was very bad, the waiters weren't friendly. I ordered for Roast Duck they added pieces of CHICKEN in it instead. I love Chinese room, China Grill is a place I will never go again and I would suggest the same to others as well. If you would like to eat some good Chinese food i would recommend Chinese room or Chung FA.

amazing food..decent prices

Every time I visit this restaurant I never go back home disappointed. I have been to this place quite a few times now and have had the opportunity to try many options on its menu.
For starters, the spring rolls we ordered were fine. One can try the prawns in garlic gravy (dry) 140-160/- dont remember the exact price. They were absolutely amazing. They also serve kimchi salad on the side which is really good. We keep ordering for more of that.
Next on line is the fried rice n noodles which are quite alright also but have it only if u are the i-want-my-food-without-any-surprises types. For the ones seeking a lil more adventure, i recommend my fav - the Pan Fried Noodles priced at 125/- for veg and add 20-30 bucks more for chicken variety. The veg one is absolutely amazing with fried noodles doused in a bland but yummy vegetable stew. And the veggies are of exotic (read - not normally used in indian cuisine - broccoli, asparagus, various col capsicum and there were more i dont remember) but its jus too yummy :-) I have ordered this every time I have had a meal here.
Also, ordering the jade chicken soup wont disappoint you but again its a lil on d bland side but I liked it. Then, in the gravies, they have these veg dumplings/balls which are also quite good and can accompany the rice/noodles. There was a very spicy paneer gravy so beware. It was ok. paneer was soft but the gravy had me fuming. Then another chicken gravy we ordered was jus great. So do experiment with the gravies mentioned and dont hesitate to ask their chilly content.
They also have some Indian cuisine on the menu like paneer tikka masala, makhni daal, butter chicken, few kebab variety and plain rotis but havnt really tried it. So if you are going with someone who is uninterested in Chinese cuisine, they can have the indian stuff too.

On an average, meal for 4, with 1 starter, 2 soups, 1 noodles, 1 rice, 2 gravies should lie in the range of 700-850/-

All in all, I give this place a definite 4 stars.
