An absolute delight

Its a huge restaurant with decent decor, comfortable seating and a good ambience. The decor of this place is impressive. It strikes you immediately. . The place is decent with good quality and yummy vegetarian food. Broccoli and almond soup is an excellent appetizer and healthy too. Cheese and jalapeño balls - to die for though a bit oily.
Veg lasagna - very dliciously cheesy. Must try Tandoori Bharvan Aalo. and Shaan-e-darbaa.Love the way services are provided her. This place offers the perfect fine dining experience: Great taste with more than sufficient amount of quantity,

Not just the fish.

I have always heard about this place as being one of the really good fine-dine seafood joints of the city. So that coupled with the fact that the dishes are quite above budget for a regular dine-in with friends always got me to evade the place. Finally dad had been there with some office colleagues and said it has awesome vegetarian fare. That got the parents and I to pay a visit on a Sunday evening.
Red Olives always had a very appealing exterior and the artistic window designs always tempted me to go in. That day when I finally decided to do so, I enter into a dimly lit, large restaurant with comfy seating and cool decor. The one thing that this place deserves every single star is for the service though. From the word go, we were seated promptly by a charming lady and immediately served the hot tissue roll by another. Water soon followed immediately and then our menus with such ease and efficiency that some of the five stars themselves lack. We were served by multiple people and the floor manager himself was taking our order. We called for the Tomato and Mint soup, which was served within 5-10 minutes and was tangy and delicious. Along with that we got the Stir Fried vegetables which was originally supposed to be in butter. My mom requested them to be made in Olive Oil which the manager graciously asked the chef to do so. They were great and seasoned well too. The Subz Kurkure was like any other you may have eaten elsewhere. Main course had us have the Awadhi Kofta which was magnificent. The fact that it has dry fruits seriously leaves the dish to have the potential for major flaws but the chef had made this perfectly, with the exact amount of sweet, spicy and tangy. We wanted to have the Fragrant Thai Rice as well but had no room for it (saving up for Haagen Dazs of course). Damages were slightly less than 3000 bucks for the 3 of us with taxes, matching the quality.
So I would urge the vegetarians to not shun the place coz along with the tons of meat and fish options here, there are exquisite veggie ones as well.

Good place, but pricey

Ambience is rather arresting, and the food is fairly quality, but for the price, well... it remains an argumentative issue, as is happening with most metros. though they are all well meaning, the service does leave a bit to be desired - I really don't see what the problem is - slowness, mixing up orders, sometimes arguing with customers over how they want stuff made or cooked. BUT they're never rude or snobbish, always polite and respectful. They are all obviously primed to serve the posh clientele in Powai, it's that ticklishly overt... :)

Naam bade, Darshan Chhote

Red Olives is located at the Hiranandani Gardens, Powai. The first look of the restaurant is appealing. Warm lighting, deep wooden tones, and privacy curtains give it elegance and class. The artwork, featuring a golden profile of the Buddha hints of the restaurant's eclectic nature.

ed Olives is a multi cuisine restaurant offering Indian, Chinese and Thai, Konkan and Muglai cuisines. We ordered vegetarian manchow soup and Subz Aur Cheese ki Sheekh for starters. The soup was just ok, it had one weird ingredient (which I couldn't identify) which just ruined its taste. The starter on the contrary tasted very good- a mince of vegetables topped with wholesome cheese. Infact the best dish among everything we ordered. A special mention for the 3 types of chutneys served along side, they are a must try.I must mention here that the menu had loads of non vegetarian and sea food options, both in starters and main course.

Main course was strictly Indian, Dal Maharani (another name for Dal Makhani) and Panner Kurchan along with lachhedar paratha and roomali roti. The Dal tasted pretty good, if had an overriding flavour of cloves and cinnamon though. The Paneer dish was basically paneer and bell peppers cooked in a sweet tomato gravy, as for taste it was much better than the dal. I must add here that the portions are pretty big specially when it comes to the starters. We had to get half of our food packed.

Overall Red Olives offers great ambience (if you are ok with the noise) with ordinary food .Will I visit it again? Well chances are dim considering there are so many other options available in that area.

Red Olives, a multi cuisine restaurant in Powai

On a rainy Mumbai evening, tired and hungry we stumbled across Red Olives at
Powai in Mumbai. The hostess warmly welcomed us and led us an empty table, and we noted that the restaurant was surprisingly full even at the early hour. Soft ambience lighting helped us to settle instantly as we looked around appreciatively at various curtains made of beads and crystal. Wooden tones dominate the restaurant interiors and artifacts like the statue of Buddha add character. The open bar was a hub of activity and we witnessed the bartender mixing various cocktails. The female serving staff moved smilingly accepting orders. The well laid out table had small white tablets, which caught our fancy. Some cool water was poured on it and voila, it
turned into a wet towel!

To our surprise, we found out from the server that Red Olives serves Mughlai,
Thai, Chinese and limited Kerala cuisines. Also what caught our eye was the konkan style of preparations for various seafood dishes. Konkan region, a section of the western coastline of India from Raigad to Mangalore is known for its seafood delicacies.Contemplating, we settled for a glass of chilled rose wine. To go with it for starters we ordered crispy fried calamari. Batter coated, perfectly fried squid came served with slices of lime and were devoured in no time! As the wine disappeared our hunger grew. Next we tried exotic stir fry vegetables. Cubes of broccoli, carrots, baby corn, water chestnut and zucchini were tossed in butter garlic sauce. For the main course, we chose Red Thai chicken curry which came served with a pot of steam rice. Diced chicken was cooked in red curry paste and coconut milk flavored with lime leaves. We found the curry flavorsome and filling. For dessert we ordered honey noodles with ice cream. This hot and cold dessert was an instant hit! Crispy fried noodles came drizzled with honey and served with a huge dollop of vanilla ice cream. We folded the evening happy and contend.

Located in the heart of Powai, Red Olives is a fine dining multi cuisine restaurant.
The restaurant also offers the facility for larger groups to enjoy in a private dining room that can seat up to 22 people. Couples can enjoy a quiet evening as the tables are well spaced with beaded curtains providing much needed privacy.

Superb !!!

After a last minute change in plans..we ultimately landed in Red Olives!!! an awesome place at an awesome location...right at the centre of Powai Hiranadani. Talking about the restaurant, this time there was a food carnival going with nice goan chicks around dressed in hawaiian style.. and full on Goan Ambience.. felt like i am in Goa ;-) called the Goan-Portugal Food Carnival which proved to be a boon for us.."Non-Veg Lovers"!! :-D
Well we ordered tonnes of items this time entirely Goan and Portuguese cuisines. Different types and varieties of Starters.. we ordererd starters so much that we barely had any place left for Main Course. The rest of the evening went with drinks..and finally desserts. Honestly the Food wad just Awesomeee...
All in all we had a nice time together with Great Food...and yeah Empty Pockets after coming out!!!
So i can say go for it guys..for any great or important occassion or everytime if you have huge pockets and are willing to loosen it evrytime. ;-) :-P

Very bad quality food...

They have no clue on how Yakhni Paya Shorba looks or tastes like. It was pathetic with smell of under-cooked condiments. Hakka Noodles was somewhat alright though is close resemblance of street food in look and taste; but the chicken in burnt garlic sauce was a disaster. They need to change the chef urgently and desperately. However, ambience, courtesy, valet parking, lighting, F&B service were above average. Pricing is slightly high but logical - only if the food was edible.

Ambience

Love the ambience, beautiful decor, view of the hiranandani realm and over the top mis-en-place...coming to the food, went for the chinese and loved the chicken in basil and chilly. Apart from that got to give it to them for the authenticity being a multi-cuisine restaurant. Little heavy on the wallet but would definitely come back to try out its Konkan and Mughlai cuisine

Review - Worth once a try

We had been there for a corporate lunch.
Price: 425 for Buffet (they mention as 395 which is an old price)
Including Tax, the buffet comes around 499/-

Pros:
a. Good Ambieance
b. Quality Food

Cons
a. Expensive
b. Not Quantity/Varied Choices in Food (esp. Buffet)
c. Poor Hospitality
d. Not worth of money

Moral: Go once a while but not always. Many other restaurants are far better than this one.

Worst experience eating out

Hi All,

Had the worst experience (of my lifetime of eating out) last night at Red Olives, Powai.

We were out for dinner, as a family, celebrating our child's first Lohri. Decided to go to Red Olives, over ITC Grand Maratha. Regret that decision oh so much now.

Initial experience was quite alright, with the hosts playing to the tune of what they've been trained at (hopefully some training exists - since what followed was a clear indication of no training).

Towards the end of the dinner, when we ordered dessert, we were treated to a nicely laid out Cream Caramel & Pista Kulfi, along with spoons spread out nicely on a plate. While my wife & mother started with the dessert, not realising... I picked up a spoon, and realised that the spoon was soiled and carried stains from someone else's dessert. This was not on one spoon alone.

On highlighting this, what followed was even worse, as the restaurant manager, and the supposed owner (Sunny - who was brought on phone when asked for) offered a discount of 20%, as if that would compensate the entire episode, what so even with my wife & mother already taken a bite with the soiled spoons.

Then we found a dead cockroach on the sofa, and when highlighted to Sunny, he justified it by saying it was not controllable...

The people there were rude to each other, with the restaurant manager in fact phyiscally mistreating the person serving who made the mistake.

They then brought out the bill (being extremely generous in their view by not charging for the dessert & offering a 20% discount), which I got revised & settled in full.

I wonder how a place like this can function...

Disgusted with the entire experience at Red Olives Powai, and will make sure I never step in there. Please go at your own risk...

can try once

a few good things worth mentioning like the decor, cozy and warm with tables fairly spaced out, very likeable.Next, I enjoyed my my white rum cocktail, with a really tasty version of cheeslings that was served to accompany the drink.
Will I go back? Mostly No. With so many options in Powai, something very drastic will need to happen or some strong, reliable recommendation on another cuisine, to drag me there again.
Will I recommend? Yes, but only to the non-vegetarians as that menu looked very interesting & if someone is keen to try some other cuisine that they are serving and then tell me about it.

Don't try their cheesecake

Have been here more than once, and I quite like their thai/chinese cuisine. Preferably go in a bigger group so that you can share and taste a lot of variety of food.

Try to avoid the cheesecake, it's one of the worst ones i have ever had in mumbai.

Serves good food & ambiance!

It was the occasion of a friend's wife birthday dinner (Oct 18, 2012) and we had a chance of discovering the fine dinning experience at Powai's Red Olives.
We ordered a Shaan-e-Darbar, Chicken in Basil & Chilly, and Palak Tikka as starters.
In main course we ordered Navratan Pulav, Paneer Khushnuma, Rajasthani Lalmirch Murg, Raughani Roti, and Butter Naan..
I would like to acknowledge that the whole spread was really delicious and we just enjoyed the meal.
We were a group of 4 and it made our purses lighter by 3k.
They also served a complimentary birthday cake of three different flavour which we relished to our heart content and also birthday music made her feel special.

Inflatable wet towels to wipe your hands is a stealing surprise.

SERVICE: Waiters are indeed cordial and helpful in selection of dishes that would suit our palate.Manager obliged us for playing birthday music and served us complimentary bday cake. Downtime for serving is moderate. (3.5/5)

PRICE:Sea food prices are on the higher side or else chicken & other dishes are moderately expensive. Moreover they provide corporate discount of 15% on the bill.
It may appear slightly expensive for a couple but if you visit in a group you get good food proper portion and opportunity to try variety.(3.5/5)

AMBIANCE: Nice and Elegant, Peaceful environment, Table arrangements are unique. (4/5)

FOOD:Lip-smackingly good quality stuff. (3.5/5)

Free valet car parking available.

Service and food Suffers!!

I completely agree to what taste_finder has said. The hygiene levels were pathetic as we found not once but thrice the incidents of hair strands/flies in the food. On top of it the waiter and manager were too humble to apologize. You dont get this kind of treatment even at the road side shops. It was such an apathetic show that even an old couple sitting on the table next to us shouted on the staff. Red olives is a clear No No!!

Bad Food and worst service

We went to red olives to have a team lunch...Looking at the ambience and the location we thought the place to have 3 star facilities atleast....To our horor, We got hair strands in one of the rotis ordered, when we complained same was changed with the new one...Then another roti had a hair like thing, which waiter over there dismissed as being a straind from a wheat sack (probably Redolives consider that item to ba an edible one)....While we kept on complaining the rude manager came there, didnt have a word with anyone and left as if nothing has happened.....The final nail in the coffin was a small live flying creature on the pastry.........That's why they say " What looks good from outside may not be good from inside",,,Thus avoid RED OLIVES..

Disappointment

Recently went to this place with a friend. To begin with I was impressed with the ambience. When we ordered food, I requested the food to be spicy, but what I got was not. When I told the captain about this, he gave us a green chutney!! I was disappointed at the total experience because I was looking forward to visit this place.
My summary:
Ambience: good
Food quality: nothing great
Hospitality: Only person smiling was the captain. All the waitresses had the expressions of a government employees in a government office (most of us know what I mean)
Price: very high
Suggestion: I would not go back, the food is not worth the money.

Good place to go with some perks

Been here only once, on a company sponsored lunch and was pleased with what was put in from of me to eat. Seafood is my weakness. I had the tiger prawns as one of the entrees and they were a show-stopper, absolutely brilliant. The thai read curry was nice as well. Moreover, there is this one special roti (cant remember the name) rajasthani style which went really good with the dishes. The waiters should be a little more attentive to the tables though, especially when there is a large group. Will I go there on my money? Sure, for the prawns I would, for others, it will take some time to patch up that hole in my pocket. Good food though!

Best discovery

I absolutely love kebabs and Tandoori food so it was a delight for me when I found out about this restaurant in Powai only. It is highly sophisticated and has a range of dishes of different varieties. I won myself a free gift voucher after a sumptuous dinner of Indian and Mughal delicacies. Some people at the table next to me were having seafood and it looked amazing so I might have seafood the next time I visit. Great tasting stuff, Murgh Kebabs and Chicken Tandoori were out of this world. I highly recommend this place to all of you. Go have a visit and see for yourself. A great discovery indeed.

Nice Place & Service

We had been to Red Olives last Sunday and experience one of the best dining experiences. We called for a paneer starter recommended by waiter and main course dish named "Chowgra" with Indian breads....All of the food tasted very very nice. We experienced gr8 service too....we requested to re cook one of the dishes ordered as my wife doesn't eat coconut cream...which was honored immediately. I would definitely recommend good multi cuisine food here ( good variety than normal restaurants have )...non veg dishes are good. Priced reasonably with some really nice ambiance.

Red Olives is just another plush restaurant in Powai with no substance. The place is beautiful. But the food is way below normal. All the curries taste the same. Rotis are not appealing. Services was OK. Only thing that can be applauded is the décor. However, paying a sackful just to appreciate the décor is NOT a fair deal to me.

Impressive Stuff!

One of my friend who works in Powai recommended me to Red Olives. Got to thank him for that because I was not disappointed. First thing I noticed entering was the pleasant & chilled ambiance (though a little dark inside but very soothing). Very neat and impressive. Its a multi-cuisine restaurant and the choices of food baffled me at first. I tried my hands at Chinese. Everything was just perfect. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of service. The setting (Hiranandani) couldn't have been better place. I think its an ideal place to take your family. Its a bit on the expensive side considering that its a Fine-Dining restaurant. All things said, Red Olives is worth the time and money. I am definitely coming back again to try my hands at other delicacies on offer. I will give R O four stars for the good job.

Avoidable

We visited this place on a sunday for family dinner (3 adults). Multi Cuisine options was what made us choose this place. My summary is as below
Ambience 4/5
Nicely done place, the ambience is at par with the best restaurants around. The noise levels are low, which we liked
Menu 2/5
For a multi cuisine restaurant, the menu is very limited. Even the choice of beer was limited to 2 brands. Not the place if you wish to experiment or have guests. Only if you like something specific and are on repeat visits
Food 2/5
The veg curries were just about ok. But for the Bombil fry i ordered, i would have rated them average (3/5). The fried fish was floating in oil and the reason for that was simply the batter did not hold up the heat. I do not remember leaving fish on table for many years now.
Service 3/5
I would rate it average. They were responsive but not very knowledgeable about the menu. When asked for, the captain was reading out the menu (I could do that myself mate!)
Price 2/5
For the quality of food, it was overpriced. For 3 adults, without the beer, expect to cost Rs400-500 per head for a avg spread meal. For better food, I would probably say average.
So overall an avoidable place. There is nothing worth remembering about the place but for the location and ambience.

SUCKY PLACE

Tasteless Soup. Salty Tandoori Chicken. BAD biryani...( I make better pulav than their biryani. We were served a masala papad.....which we never ordered.....later the manager comes and tells us it was sumone else's and then we are charged 75 Rs for the stupid PAPAD. The thumps up that we ordered had no fizz.....but the manager made so much FUSS abt it that all we wanted to do was....throw the Thumps up at him and leave. REALLY A BAD PLACE. I didnt even want to write the review.....but then i decided to save the rest of the ppl from going there.

Value for money??

Tried out briyani as part of the on-going festival. Portion served was disproportionately lesser for price charged. Would have preferred to drive to Lucky Bandra to got a better briyani for lesser price. Restaurant presentation was good but flies inside was a big let down.
Overall, average briyani served in less portion and priced high.

Eateratti: Just about Alright

On a friend’s recommendation, we arrived at Red Olives and tried Chinese Starters with Thai Main Course. Firstly, I couldn't identify what was the exactly was this restaurant’s specialty. Is it Indian or Thai or Chinese or Konkani or Kerala cuisine, as it all seemed to be there. The starter was actually alright in taste but I found it extremely spicy,so stopped after chomping down 1 or 2 pieces of it.For the main course, we decided not to experiment too much and decided to go ahead with the traditional Thai curry and steam rice. I just can’t point my finger on what went wrong, but I ate it purely as I was hungry and not because I was relishing it.A few good things worth mentioning like the decor, cozy and warm with tables fairly spaced out, very likeable. Old Wine in New Bottle

It is the same Sankalp taste. The decor has got a new look..Its all dark and black, takes you into an oriental+Sanjay Leela Bansali movie set. The welcome hospitality is good and the buildup is done using the expanding tissue tablet. But that ends the good part. The wait was too long, the tables are big with little open space. The food was not worth the price and variety as they claim. every dish tasted the same. It tatsted the same as in Sankalp. It is the old Sankalp in Red Olive. There are better places and food joints in Powai.

OK OK

This place was originally sankalp and now the same owners bring to you Red Olives. The place is comfortable and a good Ambiance. I was a bit surprised that they ga(excellent) , Prawns Pullimunchi (did no look like a prawns pullimunchi but tasty) and a chicken gravy that I cant remember that was good too. 2 Mocktails were good too.
But here is the kicker bill was 3400/- ....... for two people.
They charged 600/- for the crabs and the mocktails were about 400/- each.
WARNING: If you are into crab and lobsters ask the rates first as ther is no rates on the menu.

just another directionless venture

i guess we broke a cardinal rule when we went to this restaurant....never go to a place which serves mughlai, konkani and chinese food. The food at best was mediocre, with nothing in the menu which stands out. We ordered paya soup, rolls with sweet corn and paneer kandhari tikka. The food that arrived on the table was... well as described in the menu but lacked balance. The paya soup was tasteless at best while the appetizers (appetite killers) were all too spicy. The cocktails were actually good and the only reason for the 2 stars. Lastly what really got to us was that since the time we walked in we constantly requested the staff to lower the temperature which fell on deaf ears, until the so called duty manager came and informed us that the AC was on maximum. (They clearly need to stop cutting corners on the AC used if it was true) By this time we were sweating because of the temperature and the spicy appetizers and decided it would be best to end the evening at the appetizers in the restaurant and go to a place with at least an AC.

BAD

I had Visited THE restaurant yesterday after 2 good initial dining experiences l earlier But I must say I was In for a big disappointment.Compared to the earlier timely service Interest of the waiters in serving and Quality of Food All these were not at all upto the Mark.I ordered for a soup Which Took BEYOND 45 mins to arrive. On enquiring I was told The chef had made a mistake and was remaking the soup.was I not supposed to be informed about this delay instead of Keeping me waiting? Then Arrived Tanddori chicken.Neither did the masala taste Tandoori nor was the chicken soft.it felt as though our teeth were struggling to Tear The Tasteless flesh from the Bone. Can I mention How Pathetic Hakka Noodles tasted with overwhelming burnt omlette Taste?
Whats wrong with Your services and food quality?Looks Like all your chefs on vacation and their assistants have started cooking...I informed The waiter about all This But he looked helpless and said nothing.

PATHETIC PATHETIC PATHETIC
