Great place... Good Food

This place is great as a bar. Drinking here is affordable and fun. Too many legendary nights have begun here at 7 pm and ended on the following day.

Food isn't the main attraction for me at Leo's. It's a place we go to hang out, grab a few beers and by-the-by eat something.

Their pasta's are average, like most the food, including the starters. This place has vintage, it's been around since before I could legally drink, and quite a large foreigner crowd gets pulled in.

Personally, I prefer the upstairs seating unless it's epic weather in Mumbai.

Sea food at Concrete Jungle.... relatively speaking :-)

Nice place to be with friends, although it is lot congested and the space to represent the Mumbai concrete jungle.... once you are seated and ready to order, your journey starts to another place altogether.... The space constraint doesn't bother you, the service is good, the waiters offer good and fast service and the food is awesome... Whatever you order, it leaves a impression on you... to return.

Either alone or with friends and colleagues, this is a good place to spend some good time. Be there atlas once to have the experience of good food in congested place :-)

Beer Towers

You want some noise, head to Leopold Cafe at Colaba. This place is always full and that is what its identity is. A lovely place without doors and full of life.

The specialty of this place is beer which is served in big towers. They also give free peanuts. With the Beer we had chilly chicken which was the perfect combination.

Leopold cafes best than ever

The history attracts lots of people and that’s what attracted me here. Yes talking about 26/11. They have preserved all the spots and it still feel fresh. The pitchers are good, light music, great crowd and yum starters makes all the more reason to visit here. The prices are not that reasonble but its not high too. Do try their dessert please, its worth spending there.

Best hangout

Ordered a bottle of ice-cold Kingfisher beer to wash down the hearty, typical bar food chicken tikka, french fries, burgers that kind of thing. Surprisingly, the Chinese food is actually the better with chili peppers cant be beat, and the chicken-fried rice and the chili chicken are highly recommended.. The ownership has preserved bullet holes from the attack on its upstairs windows for people to see and snap pictures..

Cheers !

The hustle bustle of Colaba market is incomplete without this historic place. It's generally crowded and filled with lot of firangs. Leaving their unchallenged beer experience, the starters are a little overpriced but taste good. I love their desserts especially the strawberry mouse on the rack outside. Music could have been better but overall it's a nice place to hangout and to spend an evening here with friends.

Awesome place

One of my favourite places. What to say about his place. I have visited this place many times. This is one of the famous multi cuisine resto located in Colaba causeway. Veg and non veg dishes are available with different types of sauces. Blac bean sauce and oyster sauce and hong ong sauces. Whereas normal and common plates are also available here.

Always buzzing...

Leopold cafe is more than a restaurant. It's a great tourist attraction. Coming to food, they serve good Chinese. I ordered veg Hakka noodles with hot garlic sauce. Both the dishes were prepared well however, the quantity was insufficient for two people. I also tried the schezwan rice, which were ordinary. One of the best dishes on their menu, undoubtedly has to be grilled chicken sausages. The sausages are prepared with a spicy sauce and is extremely flavorful. They are famous for their Beer. They are worth every bit.

cool hangout

I occasionally like to have beer even though am not much of an alcohol lover but this is the ultimate place to have beer. It is always crowded with foreigners and that itself lends it a very cosmopolitan vibe. Must have the Tandoori chicken and pesto pasta which are both value for money meals in themselves. Go here with friends and sit for hours, and also sample various pastries and cheesecakes.

Leopold - for the experience!

Leopold is more than a pub. Being there is being part of history and grabbing a slice of history along with your beer. The place boasts of good music, great crowd and a long waiting list. You would be well advised to book a table in advance, especially on a weekend. The desserts are exquisite.

Must visit! Even if not for a beer!

There's only one...

The reason I like this place more than Mondegar is that there isn't any loud music blasting away and their focused totally on making sure you have a good time hanging out with friends. So the ambiance is just tables and chairs with the menu right there on table itself. Order beers, sausages and some chicken chilly and your ready to go.

Nice place

Yes, I agree that Leopold is highly overpriced for being a cafe cum bar. But who hasn't been here. First shop at Colaba and then drink a pint or a tower of beer to cool yourself down.
Leopold has a very fun environment, the place is mostly stormed with plenty of foreigners and equal number of Indians too. In all, it is a nice place.

Chilled out place!

More than indian crowd you will always find a lot of foreigners here! They have some really good continental food .. The pasta and the risotto is nice.. They also offer moghlai food .. The place is a bit expensive but what makes it special is its ambience and crowd.. You can just chill here with a couple of beers and also have a good time!

Nice place

A place similar to cafe mondegar but with worse lighting! Ever since it was mentioned in the novel 'Shantaram' and then the 26 november terrorist attacks happened,it has become even more popular...still a good place to spend some time drinking and eating with friends. try the chicken grilled sandwich,or the chicken pasta in pesto sauce! Have some very good desserts too. Service is not great and seating is very close and stuffy.

An institution to visit!

Another institution in Mumbai, almost always full, especially with foreigners! This is perhaps the most chilled out place where beer is a must have. I don’t drink but many of my friends do and we have spent quite some time chilling here. Be prepared to inhale loads of alcohol smell and smoke and simply enjoy the most chilled out side of Mumbai. I have tried a veg burger here and it is good enough. You will feel like you are sitting in a Goan shack, just overcrowded! Also they have some good desserts, cheesecakes and pastries worth trying. Basically don’t go here for food rather just for chilling with friends and drinking!

The Classic Pub!!

This place needs no introduction, one of the most iconic cafes of Mumbai, located at the Colaba causeway. A must go destination by any tourist exploring Mumbai.

This place is known for its vibe, energy & great food.

The usual place for me on a Friday evening. It has great old age ambience, a classic pub kind of atmosphere, serves multi cuisine – Italian, Indian & Chinese.

Some of the must haves are – Tandoori chicken, fusilli Pesto Pasta, Hakka Mushroom, Veg. Burger, Paneer Tikka Masala, Garlic Nan & excellent Fish dishes.

Alcohol is moderately priced, best buy is to get a beer tower.

It is an excellent place to chill with friends.

Leopold Cafe Colaba Causeway, Mumbai. Hype? Real?

Leopold Café. Since 1871. Colaba Causeway. Must-see for the traveler in Mumbai. Over-crowded at all times. Hyped. Real. Yeah, all of the above runs through your mind as you are showed to your table here and you victoriously grab a chair. For how many can get into Leopold with having to wait outside for that coveted seat? We did and thanked our stars. For, the four of us were famished and could eat the pillars, ceilings, fans by then. The menu card was most eclectic – burgers, biryani, pastas, fresh juices, coffee. Multi cuisine, you say? Eclectic, I emphasize. An eclectic menu for the eclectic faces around me – the two boys at the corner table looked like they were trying to write the screenplay of a movie. Why else would they be looking at the patrons intently and jotting down their notes? And then there were the 2 ladies behind us, who looked like they tore away from a society do to have coffee here. The pretty young girl eating a pastry and sipping coffee with her boyfriend. The bunch of foreigners, wearing salwar kameezes, and trying to absorb all that is India. And of course the four of us, bound by a common love, shopping ;-) So in case you are not dying of hunger, like we were, simply chill, relax, order a drink — Jayant tells me that their Eiffel Tower beer that is served in a tower-like container is amusing. We stuck to mosambi juices though!! And stay engrossed in your animated conversations with your friends. There’s one more thing you could do. Observe the place and try to figure out, Why the hype?

Not that great food

I visited this place twice and had completely diffferent experience. 1st time when we sat on ground floor didnt like the place that much reason being too much cramped for space, too much noise and felt place runs because of historical importance only. But second time was completely different experience when we sat on 1st floor. Place had nice music playing, good ambiance, proper sitting arrangement and all. good place to drink but not that high rated for food

Amazing buzz, not that much on food

Have been waiting to be here ever since I have been in Mumbai.. and finally last weekend I got the opportunity. Having heard so much about it, was hoping to find it full.. and it was! Situated on the main road, it is hard to miss.

The structure will not impose a likeable effect on being seen from outside, but once you are inside, you know why it is so famous. Saturday night at 9, it was full to the brim with more than 20 people in waiting. It is large group friendly, and since we were just 2 people, we were given a place in just 15 minutes.

The place exerts enthusiasm and buzz. Waiters running around taking and serving orders, people having a good time.. You can see towers and pitchers of beer on almost every table. The crowd is pretty good too.

Now coming to the food.. We ordered 2 glasses of beer with french fries and paneer tikka. The beer was served immediately with peanuts, followed by Panner Tikka. Paneer was soft and the marination was quite delicious. Served with coriander and mint chutney, which was pretty nice. The fries came in way later, and we ordered 2 glasses of beer again. The french fries were a little let down. Though good in taste, they were a little too much oily. The service is quite quick and attentive.

We ended the meal with a red velvet pastry. Not the best I have had, but decent enough. The cream could have been less sweet and lighter.

For 4 glasses of beer, 2 appetizer and 1 dessert, the bill came to 1400 bucks. Not worth spending on food, but bang on atmosphere.

history

In this world its not only Scotch or Wine which becomes tastier with its age, but same thing applies to Leopold. How we can ever forget tower of beer finished within 15 min with just 3 friends ! Beer Tower seems to be economical @ Rs 1400. Tried tandoor (around 400) which was ok. If you wanted to have experience of certain Historical places in Bombay , then Leopold is one of them. Its little cramped, overloaded with customers and noisy! If you required Fine Dining Experience then avoid!

Best Chilly Chicken but beware of Service Charge

Go in a big gang and order the pitcher of draft beer that comes like a tower and is a delight! All time favorite dishes have to be Chilly Paneer and Chilly Chicken Dry. It tastes the same every single time you eat it and you can never get enough of it. Fish n Chips at Leos is fantastic but do ask for extra tartar sauce. Just beware of the credit card slip. Service charge is added in the bill but when they get your card slip, they don't give the bill so most people land up adding a tip to the bill which is over and above the service charge.

Mumbai & The Classics.

Don't go ga ga about the food, booze or the service etc. Just feel the raw energy in this place, you will feel Mumbai in its true element here more than anywhere else, the people, zing in the air, the atmosphere, that what this is all about, simply order a BBQ chicken or an omelette pav if your really hungry, sip on a pint of beer, have a liitle chat with your friends and you will not regret this place, its more of a heritage spot than a swanky hang out, this place has seen everything, the attacks, the bad days the good days and is still standing proud....this is not just another hang out, this is place that has heart and soul, this place is a classic.

Cafe leopold one of the best places to hangout in Mumbai left me disappointed. I had been there with 7 people and we were left waiting for half an hour. After getting the table, the waiter was no where to be seen.all the waiters were busy entertaining the foreigners. To be honest only the foreigners enjoy their service the most. After being on the table for about 15mins, the waiter gave us the menu and just disappeared.again after 15mins he came, took the order and vanished. finally the food arrived..the quantity was huge and the price is reasonable. The chicken fried rice had raw chicken..it wasn't cooked properly! chicken chilly gravy had watery gravy..gross! Chicken crispy was good. Food was quite okay.. Service was bad.. Overall experience was quite okay.. I wouldn't visit this cafe again! Not worth it.

Overhyped is an understatement

Cafe Leopold..., last time i went there, i assumed i ordered the wrong stuff (indian; not to mention the minimal portion sizes at exorbitant rates) so i went there again ydy to have the beef burger and the chilly beef. Chilly Beef had huge chunks of meat and cooked really well. It was good. Except for the most obvious taste of aginomoto. Presentation was shit, Even Baghdadi presented food better. And then had the Beef burger..., already cut into 4 quarters, 'okay' sized burger was served. The burger patty was (sigh) worse than cutlet meat. And the over generous serving of mayo made it pathetically gooey and totally uninteresting. There was a weird sweetness to it as well. Waste of money. The fries served with it weren't golden brown either. The waiter suggested us to have Red pepper beef as (according to him) it was awesome. As the dish was served, it looked exactly like the chilly beef, with comparatively smaller chunks of meat (looked more like the kerala beef roast, but tasted Nothing like it) with the obvious (indian) Chinese taste. Nothing spectacular, just ok. Not worth the prices they charge. Also, considering it is always crowded and the staff count being little below 'required', the service isn't that great. I would go there just to show the non-Mumbaikars what 'media' can do to hype up a little-over-mediocre standard restaurant and that's about it.

Ok Experience

I had been to Leopold wid my fiance on a sunday evening. He ordered a beer and i sticked to Ice Tea. Ice tea was a bit bitter which they replaced after i complained about it.

For starters we ordered Chilly Cheese toast which was yummy with generous cheese over it. The only thing was that i felt it was a bit overpriced. The main course was Paneer tikka masala wid Naan. The gravy was superb wid fried pieces of paneer which i dont like. Overall great place to chill wid friends. :)Looking forth to trying Chinese next tym i get der.

A lil too expensive for my taste

I'm going to be very honest here - yes, its got a good vibe going on a place you'd like to enjoy your drink at, but it certainly not the cheapest place to go to. A pint of beer is 190 or so. A bottle is 255. Draft is of course a little cheaper. The food on the other hand is where it gets expensive. A veg burger will set you back 300! And thats at a place without air- condition and cramped seating. A plate of potato wedges goes for about 300 too.

Good Place - Bad Service.

This is one those age old places where people from various places sit together, with the % of foreigners weighing a bit more then the indians. So, its obivous that you will get a less attention when it comes orders, etc. When you finish your beer you expect to be asked by the waiters for a repeat, but here no one really bothers. I know they get good tips from the firangs but, that does'nt mean you behave in such a way with anyone else. Apart from this factor I really would not think twice about going to this place as the food & drinks are good & affordable.

Old world

Sitting on one of their tables sipping a beer or an ice tea watching the world go by, you wonder why you havent thought of coming to Leo's earlier?!?!?! After some serious shopping on Colaba Causeway, i decided to make my way to Leo's. Budding poets and foreigners who pool in all their cash for a pint find this place extremely economical and VFM. Their beef chilly and fried rice is an absolute deathly combo and a must have. the indian fare is superior to the chinese although the yummy chicken tikka masala, once an affordable Rs. 200 has now been steeply priced, what with the management having recently jacked up their rates by Rs. 150. approx. Quick and decent service with an old world charm is what one looks forward to on a dreamy afternoon!

Boisterous, energetic pub

Frequented by a large population of ex-pats and/or Colaba hippies, this boisterous, loud, yet pleasant pub on the Causeway is a fun place to hang with friends when you're in the mood to have loud discussions and laughs. A novelty item here is their beer tower, a cylindrical pipe-shaped object that stands about 3 feet tall on your table, filled halfway with beer. Drinkers can then fill in their pints at their leisure. This place also has some amazing bar food. Try the chilli chicken (also called Crispy Chicken), Reshmi Kebab, Butter Garlic Prawns, and Vege Spring Rolls - all were amazing and we scarfed 'em down in record time.

Remember, this place just has that loud type of vibe, so if you're not into that, you will not enjoy this place. Another point to note is the upstairs, more smoker-friendly section. I personally think it's a little too small, smokey and grungy. Downstairs rocks.

Mumbai action

Leopold is a bar- café tucked in the heart of the Colaba causeway, and had became a place of great interest to me after reading Shantaram which made me look at Mumbai with a totally different angle. I was very keen on visiting the café and observing the activities that I had easily ignored on my previous trip Flashback I still remember the first time I visited Leopold café. I was in college, and had heard a lot about this place from our seniors in Rotaract. Infact, going to Leopold was more like an event I was looking forward too. The visit that time was interesting, although I don’t think I had really observed the people around, the kick was just about visiting the place and telling the world you had been there. Couple of years later when my office was in town we often visited Leopold but always headed to the bar upstairs. May 2006 As I walked to Leopold through Colaba Causeway I looked at the animated hoarding with bold lettering and pictures shouting out Leopold since 1837. This was new signage which has replaced the old simple Leopold sign recently. As we walked in through the door, a firang guy, who was probably German seated at the table near the open door, greeted us, welcoming us inside. After sometime we realized he was trying to make conversation with the other men seated on the table behind us. Suddenly he was standing between our table and the table behind and announced that he sang very well and would do a special performance for us. I was extremely excited and hoped to see some action, but unfortunately the guy simply sat on the table with those men and disappeared after a few minutes.I saw this young guy probably in his 20s with a plastic bag, standing outside, looking inside than talking on his cell phone, minutes later he caught a table next to us and after sometime ventured outside exchanged bags with a middle-aged man and returned back enjoying his beer, leaving my mind to wander what the deal could have been. Amidst the chaos there was a group of American and Korean tourists who were competing with each other on doing a beer bottoms up. When I went for a visit to the washroom, I saw this firang women chatting with a Indian guy near the washbasin. The guy probably in his mid 30`s looked like some kind of agent, again this could just be a figment of my imagination. He chatted with the women enquiring about her health, and telling her she looked much better, maybe the new drug the doctor suggested her must have helped her Leopold has a total different culture even within its two sections. The non- ac section is full of tourists, very few Indians. The interiors gives it the 80`s look. The big old clock, the paintings of rockstars, musicians probably of 70`s or 80`s, the sign of the parsi logo( don’t know whats it supposed to be called) on the windows above and casual irani chairs and tables. Hemi pointed out the good thing about having the menu sandwiched on the glass table, thus not bothering to wait for the waiter to bring the menu to order. Also downstairs you have to pay first to get your alcohol. I wonder how this place would have been in 18 71 don’t think my grandfather ever visited it.Upstairs is more like a lounge bar, there is music, you will find very few foreigners upstairs. All in all, I think I like Leopold, an interesting place to hangout, maybe I should go their often.
