I've been to China House on two occasions.
The first time i went there ,it was without any dinner reservations and with a group of friends to celebrate my husbands birthday.
We were greeted at the entrance and were told that we'd have to wait for quite a while because there were no seats available. I told them it was my husbands birthday, and i was received with a kind smile, and a "please wait a moment ma'am.I'll see what i can do for you", and lo behold, we were seated at a table not more than 10 -15 mins later.
We ordered the prawn dumplings, the Peking duck, a fried rice of some sort, and then chicken in black bean sauce( if im not mistaken).. I have got to say that the food was fantastic!! Honestly, it was terrific! My husband and i live in China, and simply adore chinese food, and this was the best Chinese food we'd eaten since we got to India. I've travelled a lot myself, but iv got to say that, the food at China House just sets a bar for itself!! and the service was delightful! It was so wonderful to step into a restaurant that had the ambiance to match the type of food being served, and with such flair and proper etiquette.
It being my husband's birthday i asked if they had any cakes for dessert, but they didn't.. Nevertheless, once again, they didn't fail to impress when they brought out a yummy chocolate cup cake of some sort with some ice cream and sweetened crispy noodles( i think!..)... It was the perfect end to a perfect evening.
Since our dinner in China house, we have frequented several chinese restaurants around mumbai, but NOTHING has compared to the food at China House.
So about two weeks back, my husband and i once again went off to China House for lunch. We made it with just 5 minutes to the last order time.
We have met with an instance where we entered a very reputed restaurant with half an hour to the kitchen's closing time, and we were treated quite disrespectfully. Hence it was a nice surprise when the waiters at China House did not rush us, even though we were rather late.We were also told to take our time to give the order, and that a few minutes would be all right. All these little details are what make a dinner/lunch experience special and perfect...
Once again, we ordered the legendary Peking duck, and this time went with beef(or mutton) dumplings, and ordered the Seafood stew rice (please excuse the name of the dishes, as I'm writing them as i remember them, and i may not be entirely correct).
The food was..To be able to eat authentic Chinese food outside China, was a real treat for us! Very often, in many places, Chinese dishes taste somewhat different, with an Indian twist to it.. But here, it was just perfect.. And the Duck was just fantastic!!! The skin crisp, the meat juicy and the pancakes thin and soft..The dumplings were so tastefully prepared too,and so soft and fluffy....
To top the meal off, we ordered the most scrumptious banana fritters that were to die for! :D It was one of the best meals ever!
I would rate China House as follows:
Value for money 5*****
All in all, the best experience we've had in India so far, and we would be delighted to recommend the place to any, if not, all our friends.
Kudos to the Management of China House
