True to its name, Badshah is the real emperor when it comes to faloodas. This establishment is more than 100 years and still stands strong with no signs of slowing down. Not that we would ever want it to!
Situated bang opposite Crawford market, Badshah is a landmark in itself. Fabulously located, it is THE place for all the tired shoppers wanting to grab a bite or a drink. The ground floor itself has a decent seating capacity and the real mini-mango trees on every table make a pretty sight. There is a mezzanine floor with AC seating which is equally big, but slightly cramped.
They have a huge menu of faloodas, sherbets, ice-creams, milk shakes, cold coffee, lassi and so many other drinks. What varieties and flavours! If you like a particular flavour, they give you an option to buy their syrups as well, prices of which are listed on their menu. Inspite of their vast menu, for me it has always been the Royal Falooda which takes Number One position while ordering! Right from childhood, there must have been rare occasions when I have ordered anything other than Royal Falooda. The combination of ice cream, milk, vermicelli and tapioca pearls along with rose syrup makes Royal falooda a super refreshing delight! It is also the cheapest falooda in the menu. Not to mention, the most popular one too! For those who do not like rose syrup, there are plenty of other options such as Kesar Falooda, Chocolate, Strawberry, Butter scotch and so on.
Catering to the need of the hour and location, Badshah started serving snacks around 30 years back. Very rarely have I snacked at Badshah, so cannot comment much on the same. But yes, I have never been disappointed. The food section is also equally popular as the drinks one. The service at Badshah has generally been good. I can understand it must be such a task to handle the increasing crowds which comprise mainly of shoppers with huge shopping bags. During peak hours, they do not serve snacks in the main restaurant. There is a person standing at the entrance guiding customers to their second establishment right next door if they want to have snacks along with the drinks. A good gesture to save their as well as their customers time.
Long live Badshah. A minimum 100 years more will do.
