Good Food

This place serves good food and makes for a decent family outing if you are into Chinese food. Since there are so many outlets of this restaurant, you are gonna find it in each area. But it has decent food, decor and service.

Its not a must visit but cant completely write it off.

Delicious Chinese food at a very attractive price

5 Spice is an awesome place to have the Indian version of Chinese food. The variety of food they offer is commendable. Every dish is prepared thoughtfully and with creative flavors. There is not much to say about ambiance as it is not a luxury eatery. The portions are really good so be mindful when you are ordering food. Kung pao potatoes, the Mongolian pot rice and shantung noodles are surely not to be missed.

5 Spice deserves a High Five

I am a big fan of the Thai pot rice both veg and non-veg. They have some great starters and a good beverage menu. I have visited this place many times and never get tired.
This is a best place for Chinese and portion sizes are huge. We ordered one soup and two main course dishes along with two rice bowls for five people and there was plenty of food left over.
Mind you guys! 5 spice has at least 15 branches in Mumbai and my personal experience says that a lot depends on the branch you go to dine out. I find bandra and marine lines to b d best. At least for a pure vegetarian like me

LOVE the quantity

I've been here many at times.

The quantity that the restaurant serves is absolutely amazing, however their home delivery takes a while.

If you stay around Bandra or study around here, you should try the food here once.

The one thing I don't really enjoy is that if you go right before closing, (20 minutes to be precise) the waiters here start giving you a dirty stare and also you can hear them chatter behind.

FOOOOODDD!!

The 5 spice in bandra is really huge with so many floors for seating! You must go hungry here because the food is so tasty that you will keep eating.. There is always a waiting here no matter what ..The thai pot rice and the chicken in bean sauce are my favourites! The quantity is really awesome in comparison to other places .. And you have to try out their dessert menu! THE DEATH BY CHOCOLATE is the best and you always need to order it in advance because it gets over really quickly!

Huge quantity

Amazing chinese food, just the way we like it..all tasty and oily and full of sauces of all kinds..and the quantity here is amazing! We were a group of 4 people and we ordered for thai pot rice and burnt chilly noodles and we couldn't finish it all! And then we had also ordered for mission impossible which we finally had to pack and take home.So just be aware of the quantity here, food is very delicious, ambiance is also good, service could be more prompt.

GOOD ENOUGH

Just been here once,it serves generous portions, so it is best for ordering in when you have a party at home. It is not authentic Chinese, and it is perfect value for money in terms of Indianized Chinese taste and 1 plate of noodles is enough for 3 people. Try burnt chilly rice, Pan Fried Noodles and American Chopsuey for sure. In desserts, Mission Impossible is all time favourite.

Reasonable Price Big Portions

I went to 5 spice with my friends for a dinner. The food was served in 20 min of ordering and the dishes were all tasty and well prepared. Service was efficient. The best part were the portion sizes. One portion of rice was good for 3 hungry people. Overall, good experience!

Rude waiters !!!

Some of the waiters working there are very rude. I found the schezwan sauce stale. I asked the waiter to replace it. He flatly refused to do so. I then called for the manager who replaced it after I insisted that he taste it himself. This was really shocking. Please be careful when they serve complimentary things like salads, sauces, cheezlings etc. They could all be stale.

Good Value for Money, Not for Taste

I've only visited the Bandra outlet once, but from what i can remember, the ambience was good. The portion sizes were excellent, but I found the taste to be a little lacking, not really what I'd imagined Chinese cuisine to taste like. The home delivery was very efficient and quick. If you want a restaurant for a larger party but don't really like the people, 5 Spice is for you.

Good Chinese food!

5 Spice is a great option for tasty value-for-money chinese food with its many outlets across Mumbai. This one in Mahim is okayish for dine-in since the seating is a little congested, however home delivery is very efficient.
5 Spice is renowned for its generous portions, for example a portion of rice can be sufficient for 3 people comfortably. So please be careful when you order. I would recommend the Pot rice - its flavourful and tasty and you can choose to get it with chicken, prawn or veg. The prawn hakka noodles and fried rice are alright. To go with the Pot rice, try the Red pepper fish, its mildly spicy and its tangy taste offsets the flavour of the pot rice.
Surprisingly, the desserts here are quite amazing. Its well known for its 'Mission Impossible' but I would strongly recommend the 'Rocky road' if you like the taste of chocolate brownies like I do.
5 Spice is a great option for ordering food to your home. Its filling portions and yummy desserts make it an option you can rely on.

This one will not disappoint you!

Before I start to talk about the food, the quantity deserves a first here. The place is humongously generous when it comes to quantity. The food tastes very good too. Although a little apprehensive, before we landed there for dinner, since I'd heard about insects being found in their food. Luckily we did not come across any such mishap. The service though is a little slow. Ambiance fairly good when it comes to the seating area. But the washrooms need to be avoided at all costs. 2 chicken soups, an egg fried rice, a burnt garlic chicken fried rice, a fish gravy and iced tea and fresh lime sodas to wash all of it down, 5 people making dinner of the above at 5 spice will do damages worth 2.5 grand

Good food! ... Long Queues

You’ll have a great time here – if you get a reservation, that is. Arrive without prior booking and you’ll be kept waiting for a good hour or so. But 5 Spice’s popularity is well deserved – it caters perfectly to the Indian palette that longs for ‘Authentic Indian Chinese.’ One of the few places you can blindfold yourself and point at a random dish on the menu, and you will be presented with an extremely flavourful meal. Expect everything to taste good, but you may have waiters waiting impatiently for you to finish quick, they have others waiting.

Blah, at best!

I ordered in from here recently to find out what the fuss was all about. Turns out it was much ado about nothing. The crispy spinach paneer came with a big dish (portions are for two) of paneer fried in batter so thick and rubbery I had to PEEL it off to get to the paneer. The 5 spice special noodles were nothing special. And the spring rolls were just as oily as when you order from the local Chinese delivery joints. On the whole, very average. Especially since delivery takes an hour. Yes, an hour!!!

The chinese here is not out of the world but like regular chinese which will suit our indian taste buds, but the amazing thing about the place is the quantity that they serve which is humongous (not kidding) we made a big mistake by underestimating the portions they serve and ended up calling for 3 starters at a stretch and the main course together. but like i said the quantity got better of us and we literally had to pack almost Half of our main course. the desserts are must try here, all eggless and delicious.

well I had heard so much about this place that I finally decided to pay it a visit and went for some Chinese dishes...
we( group of 8 people) ordered some teriyaki noodles - and absolutely none of us liked it, it was kinda sour and bitter.. totally yuck. and then some other type of noodle which was cooked in milk and cream and stuff I guess ( was white in colour ) and it did not taste good either... and the rice preparation called peaking Chinese fried rice with fried noodles wasn't bad compared to others.. the quantity was very good , not the taste... the deserts did seem tasty but we didn't have any courage left and we left...
ambiance is good and so was service ...

Good Food / Terrible Service

If you want to go to their venue and eat - I would request you to think twice. The staff are so lost between themselves. They have to be constantly called upon to serve you.

The food is great. The dessert choices are great too.
Home Delivery - Would suggest you keep an hour's buffer at least. Yes, they take that LONG to deliver. They have even got orders wrong with a simple fried rice order, speaking for myself obviously here and a friend. We waited for 1.5 hours. Not only did they not believe us, but they sent another person separately to check what the earlier delivery boy brought us but didnt come with our original order. So we had to wait another 1/2 hour for our order. It's basically a night mare when it comes to management at this restaurant. Trend carefully.

So much to eat ...

Hi Guys,

The moment you hear 5 spice, you think of chinese food, lots n lots of chinese food. The place is by now known for the quantity they serve, so just a heads up to 1st timers, order slow and order less. Coz if you order like you do in a normal chinese restaurant then you prolly have food parcel for the next 2 days. Exaggeration ? Try it..
The food has always been good here and mind you that you need to book in advance to avoid disappointment. Its quite full even on weekdays, so call n save yourself a drive. so empty your pots and enjoy the oriental meal. Cheers

Good quantity

5 spice has 'safe' Chinese food in case you are in a large group with different tastes and preferences. As mentioned in the title, 5 spice offers really good quantity making it good value for money and you tend to over order generally. However, they are little inconsistent with their quality (at least with respect to home delivery) as I have had some not so good good experiences more than a couple of times.
Also, their desserts are really good.

So, we landed up in 5 Spice for a friend's birthday treat in Bandra. The first thing we ordered was Manchow Soup which was pretty well prepared and tasted good. This place is famous for its Chinese delicacies and holds up to its reputation. The Crispy Potatoes were out of the world and deserve a special mention. Veg. Thai Rice was not as well prepared but tasted okay. We didn't get to taste the desserts as the friend ran out of money(college students' woes) but have heard nice things about them.

Expensive

First things first : It is super crowded on weekends and be prepared for a wait time of at least 30 minutes .

At least the weekend I went the staff at the waiter counter were rude and the seats provided outside were not adequate for the crowd present there.

After a lot of waiting, we were given a table on the 1st floor ( surly mezzanine) . The height was pretty low and very difficult to navigate.

The food was actually worse than what we have at their fort branch and the price was nearly double the same. Also felt the portions were smaller here.

Won't be visiting this 5 Spice branch again.

POOR HYGIENE and HOSPITALITY.!!

This is to bring to your notice the falling standard of hygiene and staff hospitality at 5-Spice Bandra.

Today, me and 4 of my friends were at your outlet at Bandra for Dinner. While we were dining there, not only was the service very poor such that we had to practically wait for 30-40mins for our main course after the apetizers, but also that we found insects (flies/fleas/bugs) in two of our dishes. When brought this to the notice of manager, he was very complacent and responded with very unprofessional reasons such as "it must have just fallen from top".

Further, when asked to provide official complaint book so that we can lodge our complaint, we were just given a suggestion slip. When asked the staff for complaint book again, he replied was least courteous in his approach "this is all we have, whatever you want to say put it on this".

However, we did put in our feedback on that slip. But, yet we were appalled by the falling standard of hygiene and staff courtesy at a reputed chain of restaurant such as 5-spice.

One of the best places to have chinese

Food is grt, starters are quite up to the mark & quantity is too good :P.
Do try out their deserts, though i m not a grt fan of deserts but the ones served here are too good esp Death by Chocolate.

Do try the foll dishes if u happen to go there
1. Burnt chilli Rice
2. Chicken in Burnt sauce

However, this one is a lil cramped upon the dining area.. As compared the outlet in sakinaka.

Best Chinese food in Mumbai !!

In 2 words - I'd call this place PUNJABI CHINESE !! The food may not be the most authentic Chinese available, in fact that's why I call it Punjabi Chinese. The humongous portions aside, the food is overly oily nature (not exactly the healthiest Chinese food). But that said, it is tasty nonetheless. The overwhelming part is the quantity. I kid you not, 1 plate of fried rice or noodles is MORE than enough for 3 average eaters and 2 hogs, that too with a struggle. Gigantic proportions of food at a very very reasonable price, in a semi-posh ambience. That perhaps sums up 5 Spice.

Absouletely disgusting

Last weekend we went for dinner and never again will we step into that place. It was 10.45 when we stepped in .. ordered our soup and starters .. and some drinks ... The drinks took 45 mins to come after repeated reminders . I kept asking for the Kimchi .. o I informed them that one of my family member has medical conditions and needs to eat soemthing quickly .. he did not respond . When I insisted on the kimchi he informed us that its over and they are preparing for more . But when they served us kimchi with tomato sauce with Tabasco . The waiter recommended a chcken dish inspite of us categorically telling him that we do not want any sweet sauce . The sapo chicken was tasteless and oily. The waiter informed us that they had no fish left and its over . The chicken was just boiled and added in the sauce. The egg fried rice had pcs of omelette . It was an ordeal to get the waiters attention .. they all grouped up in a corner and were chatting away . I would not recommend anybody to visit this place even if u r not a chinese food fan .

Its sad that in a location like Pali .. the service , food cannot be given any rating . Me and my family have decided never to step into this place ever .

Surprising menu and unimaginative chef!!

I must start this review by first mentioning that I am (still not was) a die hard fan of 5 spice. However, my experience yesterday left me flabbergasted!!!

I had a guest with me who does not enjoy eating anything that is coated with cornflour or regular flour and then fried. When we asked the captain whether he could suggest a few dishes that weren't 'batter-fried', he suggested 2 items (one with prawns and one with chicken).

When we received the prawns, lo and behold, they were loaded with a cornflour coating. When we called upon the captain, he said that all items of seafood have to be batter fried or they'll split while cooking - didn't know prawns split if not batter fried. He said he would get the chicken main course which was only fried and not batter-fried. Sad that we had to return the prawns, we eagerly awaited the main course. Alas, when the chicken came, even that was batter-fried. Once again, we had to request the captain's attention that the chicken too was batter-fried.

The captain's response to our predicament was 'thoda to hoga hi'. Not to be dampened by the lame response, we asked him to check with the chef if he could make something without batter-frying - like diced chicken, et al. The response was 'No, we cannot make anything without it being batter-fried - chinese mein aisa hi aata hai'. When we asked to see the chef personally, another captain came and said that he would speak to the chef and check with him/her. Unfortunately, he returned with a hung head and defeated expression that the restaurant cannot make any item that is not batter fried.

The whole experience just left me very shocked!! How can a restaurant that has almost 500 dishes on its menu (and be so successful at that) not make anything without batter-frying it!!! its not that other Chinese restaurants don't do it.

My only conclusion was that the chef is unimaginative and probably, cannot think out of the batter-box!!

Best Spice!

5 Spice has been a favorite for like ever. Not once have I been disappointed in the so many years that I have repeatedly visited this place. However one thing that has not changed has been the waiting. Even if you reserve a table you will have to wait at least for 10 min to get your seat. Be it a weekday or weekend, its always packed. Only if you come in early, you could manage to skip the waiting part.

The interiors are basic and minimal. Brightly lit and lively. It tends to get noisy with big groups making the most of it. And yes, every time I've been here, there has always been a large group on the floor. The service used to be exceptional earlier, however; it has deteriorated over the years. The staff usually roams around with a 'I don't care' look on their faces. At times they don't even acknowledge you inspite of you almost popping out of your seat trying to get their attention so that you could place your order. Bad attitude!

Seasons come, seasons go...Another thing that hasn't changed is the Food. Simply fantastic! Authentic, perfectly cooked, the taste and yes the quantity - everything just as it was years ago. I have to give a special mention to the quantity - its huge!!!! I haven't seen the kind of quantity they serve at that price anywhere else. Cancels out every negative.

My favorites on the menu are Kung Pao Chicken, Crispy Spinach Chicken (with tangy-sweet fried spinach), Butter Pepper Garlic Prawns and Chicken Mongolian Pot Rice. That doesn't mean rest of the menu isn't good. Frankly I like most of the items :D Finish your meal quickly so that you can jump to desserts. I've had few of the best desserts at 5 Spice. You have to try Death by Chocolate, Chocolate Mud Cake and Mission Impossible. *slurp*

5 Spice is so totally value for money. You wont cringe at all when you get the bill. It wont cost you more than Rs 500-550 for 2, that too a hearty meal. And the Litchi toffees that come along with the bill are the best!! I grab them all!

Spicy 5 Spice

I have been to 5 spice before some days........Structure and interior is really royal....interior of the restaurant is fantastic......now about the food....we had crabs and fish and mix veg over here so non veg food is mouthwatering......anyone couldnt stop himself by licking fingers.......rice quality n bread quality and varieties are really good in taste. Food makes full justice what we see in the visuals. Now about the drinks, we found maximum varieties of whiskeys and rums and some special cocktails here....even Mocktails are also tasty....but somehow we found the restaurant bit expensive......like a beer bottle charge 1150/-. so from me its 4 out of 5...................................................Thank you

Unbelievable drop in quality -cockroach comes free

It pains me to write this review for five spice, a restaurant that we always had marked as the 'go-to' place for chinese food in mumbai ever since we first went there a couple of years ago. However, over the last 6 months, they seem to have gone totally downhill in terms of food quality and hygeine.

When they had served us veg manchurian with thrice the amount of usual salt on one of our recent visits, we had discounted it as a one-off incident. The rest of the order too had been nothing to write home about.

The day before however we decided to give five spice another try - we would rather not have. Veg spring rolls that we ordered were easily the worst I have ever had. The oil and the filling had a funny and unpleasant smell and taste to it.

The dip that was served at the table had dead cockroach in it. We called the waiter to our table, expecting the usual apology n all, but all he did was take the dip away and asked him colleague to replace the dip. Not one single word of apology. He didnt even look the part. I dont thing he realized that in some other part of the world, they could have been sued for it. His attitude was disgusting. Since we were in a hurry to get home, we reluctantly decided to finish our meal there. On remarking to the waiter that the rest of the food should not have insects in it, he remorselessly smiled and walked away with a "sorry sir".

If this is the way they are going to treat their customers and compromise their food quality, I am sure it will not be long before the long waiting queues outside will fast vanish.

The best among all the other 5spice restaurants

Chinese food in it's best Indian avatar. Though 5spice does not offer 'authentic' chinese food, it serves a lot of variety that will appeal to any Indian instantly. Also, the desserts here are a must try. A meal for 2, complete with a starter, main course and dessert would cost around 1000rs. And not to forget their huge portions. The service, ambiance and food quality are very good. A recommended restaurant.

Disappointing is the word!!!!

The first time i had been to 5 Spice was two years ago and that was the Oshiwara outlet. The food was amazing and with large servings. After the first trip i had been looking forward to going back again, but somehow couldn't make it.

Finally, last week got a chance and planned a friend's birthday celebrations there. And boy, i was disappointed. The indifferent attitudes of the waiters is so bugging. The service was dead slow to begin with, even the drinks took a long time to be served. The Virgin Pina Colada tasted like lassi!!!
And when the food came, we were all the more disappointed since the wait was not worth it. The crispy chilly potatoes were bland. The noodles was semi-cooked and the chicken gravy was watery!!!
I echo the management's "don't bother me" attitude.

i am not going back ever again!!!

Don't ruin your occasion !!!

If you want to order a casual meal or go when you're just out and need a bite, consider this place. If you are celebrating an occasion or need your food on time, avoid this thoroughly. And I mean home delivery as well as in-restaurant dining. While the food is very good, the service, the attitude and the management reeks of greed, carelessness and indifference. Its always an "if you don't like it, get lost" attitude that is sure to ruin your mood and hence your occasion. And this coming from a long term customer who has been a patron since their South Mumbai days when they were a single restaurant. It will take a very patient person or group to actually have a good time there without feeling like you just spent your money for no reason.

Dissapointing

Have heard so much about it and actually tried the Fort one which was decent. But last night was a waste when we decided to dine here after watching Naseeruddin Shah's play. After a wait of 45 minutes we got the table. Ordered a roast chilly chicken, red cooked chicken, thai pot rice and veg clay pot rice. Roast chilly chicken was average but red chicken was bland and tasteless. Rice was under-cooked. we ordered a rocky road for dessert (chocolate-vanilla icecream with brownie, chocolate sauce and nuts) which wasn't half as tempting as it looked. A total waste of money. Probably my last visit to 5 Spice.

Service Sucks BIG Time!!!!

Went for dinner last night to 5 Spice at Bandra and was surprised at the AWFUL service! It started with the 2 so called shabbily dressed hostesses who were more interested in chatting on the phone rather than attend to the guests. Then we were informed that we had to wait for half an hour for a table even though there were empty tables on the ground floor. After I pointed that out we were taken to a table!!

The order was taken by a guy who did not understand English and I had to repeat everything again in HIndi while showing him what I wanted on the menu!!! After our soup which was dumped on our table after shifting the main plate aside we had to wait for 35 minutes for one noodle dish! Despite various requests to which I always got a lost look as if I asked for the moon the dish was not served. Only when I asked for the bill for the soup and threatened to walk out did my main dish come.

I have never ever had this problem at the Fort branch of 5 Spice and have vowed NEVER EVER to go back to the Bandra branch!!!!!

Nothing exceptional about this place

The food here is very average. The service is also very slow. When my friend was choking and asked for tissue paper, the waiter was busy searching for a napkin holder. The quantity is too much for the price. One plate is sufficient for three - four people. This place is good for youngsters and college goers who are not used to fine dining and authentic cuisine. Otherwise you can avoid this place.

Questionable Food Quality

I had Chicken Wanton Soup from 5 Spice (Bandra) on Monday. For the next two days, I fell horribly ill. Surprising, since I'm a person who eats out often and even street food doesn't do me any harm. The soup at 5 Spice left me with deep abdominal pain and also gave me stomach cramps. A lot of people I happened to speak to around Bandra also had similar experiences. Please be careful before you visit this place and take special care of children.

So much for Service!!!!

I visited 5 spice along with my friends to have a peaceful, fun filled meal. But my expectations came crashing down when i entered 5 spice @ bandra. At first none of the waiters came to take my order and on calling them they reluctantly came to my table. The service provided was not at all decent infact after repeated attempts of trying to get their attention they took no notice of us.
The food we received was cold which was kind of surprising since they took so long to make it. I would have at least appreciated the food had i got it in time and NOT 50 minutes late.
I must say, i came there with the intention of having The Rocky Road but completely lost my appetite after such poor service.

What i like about 5 Spice:
1. Food quantity (obviously ! )
2. Food Quality (in spite of the quantity they serve for the price they charge, they dont compromise on quality)
3. Food Taste (Chinese being my favourite cuisine, 5 Spice never disappoints me !)
4. Desserts (I always end up being full by the end of main course, but still manage to hog on the yumm desserts)

My personal favorites: In STARTERS: kung pao potatoes or chicken or paneer, MAIN COURSE: Exotic vegetables in ginger garlic sauce, pecking rice, mangolian rice, DESSERTS: Death by Chocolate, Rocky Road.

Blueberry cheesecake and more!

Large group? Check. Hungry stomachs? Check. In Bandra? Check. In mood for Chinese food? Check. That's it. You're decision is made. 5-Spice is the place to be. This is a ground + 2 story building with plenty of tables. The topmost floor is most suited for noisy parties or folks celebrating their birthdays. In fact, there is another hall that is hidden at the back of the building which is more of a 'family area' - meaning, no alcohol.

Ambiance
Pretty well lit, not too much decor and can get quite warm. The place is noisy for sure, but that does not change the fact that once the food comes on the table, everyone just shuts up and eat. Tables are a tad too higher than I like and the sofas a little too mushy. They play the Happy Birthday song for every person who cuts his/her cake there and the folks there are nice enough to sing and clap along.

Service
Erm.. that's where 5-Spice loses some brownie points. There seem to be enough waiters to manage each section, but for a reason I cannot fathom, there is usually only 1 person taking the order. You will find yourself waiting for that (tiny) glass of water filled so you can have a sip or two. The order-to-serve time is relatively high at about 20-25 minutes a dish, probably due to the fact that they make it fresh.

Food
Here's where 5-Spice claws it's way back. Even before you sit at your table, go to the bakery section and 'book' your Blueberry Cheesecake or a Mission Impossible. Trust me, if you do not 'book' it, you are going without your favorite sweet dish after dinner. Remember that there is a Blueberry Cake and a Blueberry Cheesecake. Make sure you order the latter. If neither of the recommendations are available, go for their mud cake with vanilla ice cream. Now back to dinner. You will see a plate of Kimchi served at every table while or before you order. Just to get you started. The kimchi is quite delicious and the right amount of spicy and sweet. I'd just wish they peel off the skin off the cucumber there. They have a huge menu and again, for a weird reason, the vegetarian section is on the extreme end of the menu. Call for their chicken with spinach starter. Spicy crunchy chicken served with a side of sweet (roasted?) spinach. For main course, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Pot Rice (Chicken/fish/lamb/veg is your call). It is a huge pot of rice that can easily fill up 3 people. You do not need to order separate gravy with it. Always ask the waiter if the rice/noodles you called for needs to have a gravy ordered as well or not. Usually you do not need to. The Chicken garlic Burnt rice and Chicken in brown sauce is my next favorite. Wong rice is also pretty good but is on the blander side. Wong and Pot rice are quite similar, with the latter having a little more veggies in it. Make sure you remind the waiter you 'booked' your Cheesecake and he will bring it right over. And I bet you a 100 if the dessert is not wiped clean off the plate in less than 5 minutes.

Damages
Relatively cheap actually. If there are 2 of you, you can just call for a rice + gravy combo and ofcourse the cheesecake and you'd pay not more than 500 bucks in total. Bigger groups can expect to pay about 300-350 if there is alcohol involved.

Will I go there again - YES
Will I go there with friends - YES
Will I go there with family - My family is not really into Chinese food

This is one of our go-to places when in the mood for Chinese in Bandra.

Really good!!

One of the best Chinese places ive been to. Thanks to my bf who got me to it. Was a bit apprehensive, but not any more. Ive been coming to it time and again much to his surprise cz im quite picky about the place and the food i eat!

The quantity is unmatched by many restaurants, it fills you to glory!!! The prices are quite decent considering the quantity they have on offer and the quality is good too (cant say about the vegan stuff cz i havent tried it). The ambiance is well, it may get a little bit noisy at times. The seating above needs a bit of improvement cz it feels crammed with tables too close to each other. A must try every time i visit is the tai-pai chiken, moon faan rice, burnt chilly fried rice. Nothing much to complain.

Keep the quantities going!!

Thai Pot Rice...Must have

5 Spice at Bandra has the best Thai pot rice I have ever eaten anywhere. The rice cooked in tick coconut gravy and blended with perfect thai spices is perfect for lunch or dinner. To team it up with anything else would be unfair. I would also vouch for the crispy chicken ..which has chicken shreds deep friend and then stir fried with veggies...The place is moderately priced and the ambiance is also quite good. I think it is a good place for people having a fetish for Chinese food.

look into your dish before Eating

When we got a home delivery for the first time we found a small rod in one of the dish. We called a several times to complain about it but, no one even bothered to pick up the phone plus the food had come very late.

The food's definitely TASTY

I have always had an issue with the so-called Chinese Food that all of us have grown up on... from Kamling & China Garden in the 80s-90s to the Raju Chinej days during college down to the Legacy of China, Aromas of China & the Mainland Chinas.
Never been to China... Hell, I have never been to Bangkok too...... But i have always made it a point to ask colleagues from the Orient if we're anywhere close to the real thing. The smile usually says it all.....On a lighter note, since its neither Chinese cuisine nor it is Indian in its ethos, lets call it Nepali (all due respect to the Nepalis) - some place between here & there
Having given the above sermon, I must say, 5 Spice's food is very very tasty. Thats the moot point here. Went there once again this afternoon. The food is tasty, there are generous portions of meat in all their rice & noodle based main courses and these portions are HUMONGOUS!
Whatever you eat, the portion's gonna be large and that coupled with the way it tickles your taste buds & comforts your wallet always leaves a wonderful taste in one's mouth
A super place to treat friends on ocassions birthdays/pappu paas ho gaya/5th date/promotion parties/neighbour's farewell and the like. Today's portion of the rice (Korean) & chicken (Black Pepper Sauce) could feed 4 decent souls and make you lighter by some 550bucks! Now that is VFM to the MAXX.
Cheers!

Must for Chinese

okay firstly I should thank my Mom to introduce me to this place. Wow 5 spice never disappoints me, it just amazes me everytime as to how much i can eat! I like both the fort and the bandra one. Its a must, if you wanna eat some good chinese cuisine, although reserve a table in advance as its always full. And pls pls leave space for dessert, going to 5 spice and not eating dessert is like not committing a crime. Reserve your dessert in advance. Must try - Rocky road, death by chocolate and if you are with an army then Mission Impossible!

What a nightmare to book a table!

I have just put the phone down after trying in vain to reserve a table for 3 for Friday (Feb 11) dinner at 9.30 pm. First the person who answered 26421941 transferred me and the line promptly got disconnected. I called back and fired him, this time he transferred me but the lady who took my call said reservations was another department, and asked me call back and ask for it! We had difficulty understanding each other's accent (hers Oriental, mine Indian). I called back, got the same fellow, explained my woes to him and he asked me to call 26421952, which I did, and the lady (similar accent) said oh, 9.30 pm? Sorry, we don't take reservations after 8.30 pm, you come and see, first come first served.
Sigh. Someone tell me this is a dream pleaaaaase!

Yummmy

I am a frequent customer at 5 spice. I love the place & still cant get enough of it
Right from the starters till the dessert am always delighted
My only isuue with the place is that it doesn't serve pork which is very unlikely for an authentic chinese place
I would personally recommend the Prawn Pot rice here. Its delicious and the serving portion for all their items is really good.
Never leave the lace without trying one of their yum desserts
I love the cheesecakes they serve here. Myfovorite being the strawberry cheese cake with the baked base. The Blue berry cheese cake is eually nice

In regards to the chocolate items my fav are - Toberlone chocolate, Hide n Seek, Death by chocolate, Alomond brownie n the Grand Mission Impossible

Good Quantity but poor service

Visited the place with some friends and had reserved a table for 10. They first placed us on the ground floor, but after ordering they shifted us to the 2nd floor. Although we went there at 8 for dinner, the service was so poor that we finally paid our bill only after 1130.

On the up side, the quantity of food was superb.

Take good care of your belongings!

We, a group of four girls, visited 5 spice on 12 December, 2010. As soon as we were out of the door after lunch, i remembered that i had forgotten my cellphone on the table. We went back to look for it but it wasn't there. We inquired with the Manager but we were told : "It is not our responsibility. Please leave the place." However, one of my friends got a little aggressive and demanded that she be allowed to go into the kitchen and look for the phone herself. The manager finally relented and came back with phone and said that it was with the trash. Of course, there was no sign of trash on the phone. Also, we had called on the phone quite a few times and it is quite unlikely nobody heard it in the kitchen.
I will not be surprised to know in future that these guys are running a mini-scam of stealing customers's phones.
Naturally, i will not comment on the food because although it is possible that good people may not be able to serve a good meal, wretched people definitely cannot serve a good meal.

Disrespectful....

We drove from town and headed to dis place especially for their chinese food as we had been to their oshiwara branch earlier...

We were highly disappointed...

We were super tired and were super hungry as we had skipped lunch due to work commitments...

We went to this place....The gal at the reception asked us hw many of us were der...i told just the two of us...she said wait for a while i will arrange for a table asap...

We waited for 10min...they have 2 sections 1 downstairs and d other upstairs..

The tables in the ground floor section were occupied and it was full....

Some other gal came from upstairs and told us to follow her aftr 10-15min...

We went there and we saw many ppl occupying table of 6 when they were just a couple and njying their meal...

The lady asked us to take d table nxt to the door...it was a table for 2 and very very close to the adjacent table...

We told her that we wouldn't like to take a seat here as it was next to the door and the table next to us was at a very close distance...

We asked her if we could take the table for 4 which was empty and not reserved....she told there is a group waiting downstairs...they are 5 of dem and they are gonna occupy dis table...(there were 3 ppl nxt to our table and all 3 were guys...it was a guys night out kinda celebration)...(i had come der wid my wife and wanted some privacy...so decided nt to sit der as we wanted to talk abt some personal matters)....

i told her den sry we wouldn't take the table nxt to the door and asked her to arrange for us any other table...she told it will take 20-25min...we will have to wait...

we didn't even wait 4 a minute der....

Its a sad sad place w/o any privacy for a couple...the customer service is pathetic here...the gal who took us upstairs was very unkind and her behaviour was very bad...she had a lot of airs...dnt knw 4 wat...she was behaving as if she is doing any fava on us by escorting us...balls....lolzzz...

I request ppl to avoid dis place for their sad seating and bad behaviour.

Nothing to Complain Over

Was in the locality yesterday and decided to check out the much talked about 5 Spice restaurant! I would have to say that the restaurant has left me pleasantly surprised. So far, the nearest this place has come to, to serving good quality food.
The portions are massive, which left us ordering waaaaay too much food, even though the waiter insisted that this may be too much for us! Well, lets just say, lesson learnt!
Definitely worth a visit back.

Huge Portions..Amazing Dessert

Had heard a lot of praise abt this place since i started eating!!

For starters the thing i really like is they get U a Salad as soon as you are seated...Nice Touch..
Ambience : The place is a little cramped up. Have kept a statue of Buddha on the floor..(n girls dnt mind sittin on top of it for a pic thts probably gonna end up on FB)

Food: Healthy(read Huge) Portions but lacks the "blow ur mind away" taste. N dunno whythey put this red chilly in everything!!

Bt the desserts are amazing..Death By Chocolate is amazing.
(Pre-Order it..coz they run out of it very fast..)

I did came out wid a full belly..bt Guys plz work on the taste..

A meal for 2 will cost 700 bucks (excluding alcohol).

Happy Eating!!!

Not So great food

Ever since we moved to Bandra, I had seen long line of people waiting outside the restaurant everyday waiting to be seated, thus raising my curiosity levels. Finally I went there last week. Had no expectations of getting authentic Chinese but was defi looking forward to good Indian style Chinese food. Alas that was not to be. We ordered veg steamed momos for starters...very ordinary..with the amount of water flowing out of them, the momos seems more boiled than steamed. The maincourse was garlic rice, paneer and chicken based dishes. Very ordinary food. Infact my son left majority of the servings...not an everyday phenomenon for him. We were so let down that we decided to dump the idea of having desserts there. And all this talk of the place being Value for Money is UNTRUE. They are not very expensive but definitely not the best place for eating quality / tasty food.

Uninvited guest

We had gone to celebrate my cousin's birthday on 16th May at 5 Spice, Bandra. However to our surprise, an uninvited and unwanted guest, Mr. Cockroach, was found strolling on my aunt's plate. We brought this to the notice of the manager who said "I can't help it" and "It happens sometimes." This was a pathetic experience for us considering that 5 Spice is a renowned place and not some roadside dhaba. To make up, a dessert "on the house" was offered.

The cockroach may be a delicacy in Bangkok but is certainly not appreciated in aamchi Mumbai.

Used to be a time when this place was really good for semi-authentic Chinese with nice drinks. Last few times i have been here have been a little dissapointing. The potions are still jumbo-sized, but the quality and taste of the food is not that great. Plus, the service has become really really bad. The waiters are no longer interested to serve you and most of the times, I find the place short staffed on weekends! Will still come here for the Burnt Chilly Rice, but might check other outlets in Oshiwara and Powai if there is better service and quality!

Oil & Spice - End of 5 Spice

Sometime in history when this restaurant opened it served lip smacking food - but now its utmost terrible. Based on the brand value it received at the success of its bandra branch, 5 spice managed to open 3 couple of more branches in andheri, sakinaka, & fort. I dined at the bandra branch the other night and my experience with food was awful. I have heard that the andheri and fort ones are worse than the bandra - i just cant comprehend the nightmare one could have had there.

Anyways, the multi storey large spaced restaurant has plenty on variety but there is one thing common in each of these dishes - OIL OIL & OIL. I felt sick eating the chilli chicken which was dumped in a layer of oil. Not just that, the meat didnt taste fresh at all. I also had a mojito and it was my mistake not knowing that a restaurant such as this who is below par in its main usp would obviously fail to make the basic cocktail - and so it did. One of worst mojito i have had. the other course order of the flat noodles was again pathetic. The noodles were chewy and bland. There were a couple of entree dishes which were extremely spicy and again loaded with oil. I know a couple of ppl from dinner who got a bad stomach because of the food.

The service was extremely slow and tardy. Ambiance was somewhat like a Shiv Sagar on a sunday night and VFM is to me a negative one. You cant succeed too long based on great portion size and worsening food quality. To me its the end of 5 spice.

5 Spice, used to be one of those places, which had great food, at great prices. This apart, from a great team. I visited the 5 Spice at Bandra (I, admittedly, haven't been to the one at Fort, in ages), after a gap of 6 months. This, is what I noticed:
1. The prices have shot through the roof, and the food quality has become average. Luckily, the size of helpings, is the same. 2.The service is not the same. 3. Its become quite dirty. The hygience standard has greatly fallen.

I was just curious to go to this place since it has a huge waiting line on all weekends. I was so so so disappointed. We ordered some Lamb dish and regular Hakka noodles and some Chicken in black bean sauce. Pardon me i don't remember the exact name of the dishes 'coz they all tasted the same and very very bad. The gravies were watery, over salty and the meat was undercooked. I could nt swallow the food. Eventually packed it and gave to a beggar. In fact the 'China lounge' a coupla shops down from this place has the most awesome Chinese I have ever had in my life and its cheap like hell and they didn't pay me to write this :P.

Best Place in Bandra (W)

Have been to 5 Spice probably a million times. This Place in Pali Naka , Bandra W proabably is the best place in Bandra. An average Meal meal for 2 with be around 700/- with starters and desserts (not drinks).
Every food served here comes with ample quantity for 2 really stuggling to finish it (So the cost of every dish being 200+ is justified). All dishes have an exceptional taste (except the Thai dishes, I personally don't like them). Service is prompt, waiters are courteous enough, though you may have to wait for 30 min or so on a crowded weekend evening. Ambience is really good.

Food: 9/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10

Overall I would call it a total VFM restaurant

Best Resto to celebrate your birthday!

I can't count the number of times that I've been here and it's always generally a birthday celebration and otherwise too...The service has its ups and downs and you have to wait a while to get your table but it's all worth it. The lighting, ambience is terrific...Décor pretty much rocks too! I love the Virgin Piña Colada...it's very delicious (the Long Island Ice Tea ain't too bad either among the cocktails). The food is awesome, very exotic looking and in taste too. The portions/quantity is goooood and the pricing is quite affordable even when it's not your birthday! :) I truly love it! Very very good !

This was my 2nd trip to 5 spice, but the first at this one in Bandra.

My first trip to 5 spice was at Fort. Thankfully Bandra is consistent with the food quality what they serve at Fort.

We ordered (all veg) -

Soup :
Coriander Soup
Tom Yum Soup

Starters :
Crispy Veg

Main Course:
Burnt Chilli Fried Rice
American Chopsuey
Roast Paneer With Vegetables

Desserts :
Blue Berry CheeseCake

Drinks :
Fresh Lime Soda/Lemon Mojito

Total Tab - 1600 rs.

Everything was fantastic. Its really difficult for me to choose one, but if at all, it has to be Roasted Paneer !! Its mind-blowing.

Also to note, quantity is very very HUGE ! We were 4, but the amount of helpings would have been sufficient for 2-3 people more. Also thanks to the big helping, I had to let go of their choco mud cake ! :-(

The only reason I am not giving star is that their service could have been a bit faster.

The dinner left us happy!

This was my second visit to this restaurant and my first one with the family. Luckily for us, we had booked a table before reaching the venue. Despite that, we had to wait for about 15 minutes. Such was the rush and that too on a Wednesday night. Amazing! The food and service was definitely worth the wait. It was my son's birthday and we were a group of six. There were two other birthday groups on the same floor. It was one gala celebration as a cake was cut at each table and all of us joined in the birthday song.
We ordered a chicken dish and veg fried wontons for starters along with some non-veg soups, a veg 5 spice soup and a Peking soup - all yummy. Then we ordered one rice, one noodles and three gravies. It was just too much and delicious. The best was the blueberry cheesecake that we had. It was better than the Strawberry one. The service was just perfect. We paid the bill of 3700 for a few beers, tequila shots and the food quite happily and went home with a warm feeling.

5 Spice - Will Think Twice!

Well... After a lotta skepticism We did end up ther for a frends birthday dinner.
Ambience wasnt as "Wallah" as i was expecting.
Tables too close to each other... u might just end up serving ureself the rice from someone elses dish
Lazy Waitors - Dull drowsy waitors not enthu bout their work is a turn down for a resto.
Watch Out - the split AC[tht doesnt cool] drips water rite into the bowl of food.
Children Screaming and People Staring is wot we got all thru.
lack of Trained Managers who know wot theyre selling and serving.
Quantity mite be good but wots the point?!

Overall... If its a special day where u wanna enjoy the food and the privacy and have a decent conversation... u shud think Twice b4 u hit 5 Spice!
Id rather go for Home Delivery!

Over hyped

1. Very large portions.
2. Service not upto the mark. Being a Chinese restaurant one would expect them to have Chopsticks. The pair of Chopsticks i got was a worn out and used pair of Chopsticks.
3. Very Noisy.
4. Bar had empty bottles (!) lined up. Looked pretty much like a dabba batliwala's shop.
5. Drinks are overpriced.
6. Ambience far from 'fine dining'.

Killer desserts joint!

Firstly, i personally do not like spicy food whatsoever, secondly my bill came up to 1010 (for 2) . Here's the breakdown:

Sarters:
Honey Chicken - Supposed to be sweet..but was uber spicy for my taste, my friend who adores spice, found it spicy too.
chicken in blackbean soya - okayish....not all that...pretty salty and spicy

Maincourse:
Fortune Rice - Chicken : Pretty good....consistency like a risotto...coz the gravy was mixed with the rice...and it IS bland, but I liked it..coz my tasteuds were burnt off by the spice earlier.....but it needs flavour..

Dessert:
Strawberry Cheesecake : Made with softcream cheese.......DELICIOUS!! tho it cost a bleeding 130 rs.!

All in all......i think i'll go there again just for the rice and cheesecake :)

Oh, the service was pretty damned good..tho we went at 10pm friday night......not very crowded...but a tad bit noisy...

The ultimate Indian Chinese place

Here is a place where you can taste the Indian Chinese. As the name suggests, the restaurant actually adds all 5 spices to its food. And its not just the food, but the quantity is overwhelming. You can eat to your heart's content here which has an equally good menu for vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

The only reason this restaurant gets 4/5 on my review is because of the excessive noise inside the restaurant. Well, its obvious because of the different age groups that this restaurant welcomes but it becomes difficult to enjoy the meal silently with such chaos.

Nonetheless, it offers good food to mumbaikars from all areas i.e. andheri, bandra and south mumbai!!

Worth going atleast once...

Ho-hum Chinese

I went to this place (Bandra) with my friends soon after it was renovated...& frankly I was disapppointed with the food. Have had much better chinese at tinier restaurants.

we ordered dragon chicken as starter and it was strictly OK; for main course -

1). mongolian pot rice which was really bad..the rice seemed a lil uncooked and the chicken overdone...

2). some noodles whose name i cant remember... which was decent but really oily....

Have been to this place many times before n they have served better food though not excellent. The best part is that you get huge portions of food which is more than enough for 3 people.

Must-try in desserts is the 'Mission Impossible', which is huge: chocolate mousse served with vanilla ice cream. It's awesome; make sure to place an order beforehand; I believe it is only served at dinner.

Meal for 3 cost us around 700 bucks, which is OK, though i dont think the food was worth it. :(

This place SUCKS!

This place came so highly recommended by several people and the perennial crowds, traffic jams at Pali Naka (because of 5 Spice) made me finally try this joint. Good heavens... pathetic food. Oily, greasy, color and MSG-laden stuff that was downright horrible. Upset stomach guaranteed. Never going back to this place.

I`ve visited this place many a times in the past, but not of late. It is surprising to read that the food has turned intolerably spicy now. I agree with most, that the portions are really generous, the service is avg., and is crowded most of the times. Death by Chocolate is a desert which i cannot skip everytime i visit 5 Spice.

After reading mixed reviews on burrp I wanted to try this place and test it myself. Went last nite with friends... I assure u this place is overrated. Portion sizes? Great! But food is so spicy n oily you will wake up to an upset stomach n sit in the loo for sixty minutes.

The only good thing is baked strawberry cheesecake at 120 bucks. So! if ur looking for good chinese in bandra i say you go to --

Disappointing...

A few weeks ago, I wrote a good review of 5 Spice, and gave 3 stars for the quick service and big portions. I had not liked the food then, but I decided to give this place another chance.

This time around, the food was absolutely unbearable. So oily and spicy that the actual taste of ingredients was killed. My non-veggie friends (who love spicy food) also couldn't tolerate it. The ambiance was noisy and irritating and hot! We kept requesting the waitstaff to turn on the AC but they just wouldn't pay heed. We called for 1 mocktail per head, and shared rice and noodles amongst 8 people - and coughed up Rs.450 per head!

Okay...no more chances. 5 Spice is off my list.

Great food, huge portions

Been to this place several times. Ambience is 3/5 - no music, a little bit noisy. Second floor has very low ceilings - watch your step. Service is something very weird - you ask for something, and the waiter finds another waiter and asks him to do that, and then everybody simply forgets.

Beer choice is very limited.

Food is wonderful, one portion is enough for 2-3 persons easily.

Place is great for people who are not big fans of super spicy food - all dishes here are low to medium spicy.

Definetely worth at least one visit

VFM Treat

Being one of the very few good Chinese eateries in Bandra, 5 Spice is thronged on weekends. So we booked a table in advance and got through.

We called for 4 starters: chilli chicken, wantons, spring roll and crispy potato. The service was super-quick! The food was on too spicy for my taste but yum nonetheless. 1 portion of burnt chilli fried rice and 1 portion of korean noodles sufficed for the eight of us! Now that's what 5 Spice is all about. We ended with 1/2 kg toblerone cake and a portion of baked cheesecake. All this and we paid Rs. 300 per head.

I would have given 4 on 5 if it wasn't for the arrogant waiters.

5-Spice up your good times!

To tell you the truth, this was our back-up reservation in case our plan at a restaurant (with terrible reviews on this site) didn't work out! And, to quote a friend, "We're glad we chose 5-Spice".

We reserved a table for 10 and had people walking in way past reservation time! So, the first star is for their consideration and not giving our table away!

The 2nd star would be for the good service and the cooperation with the birthday cake (one we didn't receive from the previous restaurant) being brought out after dinner and all... Kudos!

Star no. 3 is for the awesome food... Indisputably delicious and very feeling - Great value for money!

And the last star would be for the lovely memories we were able to take back with us!

You want a nice, warm time with family and friends? Why go anywhere else?

super duper 5 Spice

I love this place and it's always a safe bet for whatever the occasion. We had a friends birthday party there yesterday and went across with a party of 12 ppl. The staff was superbly courteous and the food was amazing especially the ribbon chicken and the pot rice. The service could have been a little quicker but when the food does come it's fantabulous.

They even took our birthday cake, gave us a candle, cutlery...everything we needed to make the cake cutting special. And it wasn't even a 5 spice cake. Kudos to you guys :)

Superb food, bad service

Been here several times and must say that portions are huge and food is delicious! One main dish is easily enough for 2-3 guys. Ambience is also quite nice but lacks some relaxing music. Ceilings are really low which makes restaurant uncomfortable for tall people.

Service is something in between of average and bad. Staff was confusing our orders, bringing wrong items, etc.

Still, a very good quality for this money as prices are just Bandra-average.

Although I am a regular at their branch in town, have been here a couple of times. The food and service is same and it's wow!!
But what I like about the Bandra branch is their decor. The upper level is my fav.

They also have an only veg section as an annexe. They attendant would escort you there. Also, no alcohol is served in that section.

SIMPLY SUPERB !!!!

Been here a number of times, sometimes for group parties and sometimes for a casual dinner with friends and I should say this place deserves a big applause.

The food is simply amazing and the quantity is more than filling. Rs. 250 each for a gravy and rice/noodles which 3 people can share easily is quite something. and when it tasted so good with a decent ambience, its simply gr8 VFM.

Drinks are decently priced as well. Service is slack sometimes on weekends and i dont know why the manager keeps switching off the A/C for 10-15 mins after every half hour.

Probably thats where is loses that one star for me.
Overall gr8 place for "Fancy Indian style Chinese".

sucks donkey d...

I used to go 5 spice in town, it started out okay, then got pretty bad. gave up.

multiple people told me their Bandra branch was great! the end word in chinese and what not (thats what i get for listening to people)

so i got suckered into going there yesterday, despite all my protests, i said what the hell, maybe i am being too skeptical (i wasnt)

the place is actually not bad looking, it was done up nicely but it has not been maintained well and is losing its sheen.

the service is retarded, they gave me these cheap red plastic chopsticks, i asked for wooden ones and they said they would send them in a minute. they kept sending the red ones insisting they were wooden, when they were clearly plastic.

i then proceeded to break one to show them it was plastic and not wooden (id have set it on fire if i had a lighter)

anyway, the food was terrible, i am still sick from it. we got the burnt chilli garlic soup which was actually pretty good. the crispy potato was volcanic, the hakka button mushrooms were just like mushrooms in general no specific treatment to them.

we then got pan fried noodles which were horrible (how can you screw them up?) the burnt chilli garlic rice was pretty good.

we got the entree to be something in chili garlic sauce with cashews. there were like 5 cashews.

overall, the quality of the food is below par, the taste is also marginal. i think roadside stalls would do better Chinese food.

it is def value for money because it cost less than 2000 for 4, the quantity is also huge.

but overall, one of the worse meals i have had in a while...

OMG! at the Quantity

I had heard a lot about the Value For Money aspect of 5Spice and finally got a chance to try it out. Dragged along my office colleagues to this place for lunch. Good thing it was empty and we got a table instantly. I liked the ambiance inside, gave the feeling that it was a very very expensive place. A very helpful staff made us feel very welcome. Offcourse, my friend who had been there for dinner had a different opinion and was soon forced to change her opinion about everything.

Soonafter, we got down to the main bit of ordering appetizers which consisted of Dragon Chicken and Chilly Crispy Potatoes. Honestly, the Dragon Chicken was nothing special and the Chilly Crispy Potatoes were nothing more than french fries dipped in some sauce! It tasted pretty good though! Oh and it wasn't chilly, but sweet. quite a misleading name, I must say.
Next up, we ordered for main course - Chicken Thai Rice, Chicken Sezchuan Noodles and Roast Cantonese Chicken. Drinks included Lemon Mojito, Juicy Bird, Watermelon Booster and Sunset Margarita.
The main course stumped us all with the quantity, huge bowl of rice and noodles and accompanied by another huge serving of Cantonese Chicken. The main course was really the highlight of the whole experience. Huge strands of rice and noodle did take us by surprise initially but we soon got down to business. The rice was good and made it better with some liberal serving of the variety of sauces on the table (Except for Soy and Sezchuan, I couldn't figure out what the rest was). The noodles though wasn't very special, though it wasn't bad either. The gravy was awesome. I would order just that if I had too!
Amongst the drinks, Juicy Bird was the standout - A must try at 5Spice. The watermelon Booster is for those who don't catch a cold so easily, I do and one sip was enough for me to go bonkers! But it tasted really fresh and was refreshing as well. Lemon Mojito, well, I have tasted better.
Overall, the quantity was good, thats the USP of 5Spice, but the price was way higher than what you would expect especially when not everything you order stands up to the price it commands. The juices at 130 each were a tad too expensive.
The food was definitely filling and overall quality was good as well. A 3-star rating, maybe a bit harsh but the price is the real turn off here. Besides, the mixed bag, quality of food is the difference maker between 3-star and 4-star here.
Expenses:

Juices: Rs.130 each
Lemon Mojito
Juicy Bird
Watermelon Booster
Sunset Margarita

Appetizers:
Dragon Chicken - Rs.220
Chilly Crispy - Rs. 180

Main Course:
Chicken Thai Rice - Rs. 220
Chicken Cantonese - Rs. 225
Chicken Sezchuan Noodles - Rs.185

I would still go a few more times here, cause the food was not bad atall but just not upto the expectations.

VFM? I don't know...

This place has great quantity in their main courses (which is where the VFM tag comes in for 5 Spice). The food is yummy, especially if you know what you like and order accordingly.

The soups aren't all that great, but the desserts are killer!

Expect to pay somewhere alongst the lines of Rs. 250 - 350 per head.

Not cheap, but the place is nice and worth vising.

Superb Indo-chinese!

5 Spice is an immensely popular indo chinese retaurant-the queues are interminable outside the restaurant but the food is well worth the wait. They serve ENORMOUS portion sizes and one dish + I rice/noodles is often enough to feed a starving family of four! Try the chicken in burnt garlic as starters followed by a vegetable fried rice in the fish in chilli sauce...always makes for a satisfying meal. The vegetarian fare is also brilliant!

Nice Ambience, good music, excellent food

Considering the fact that we did not have a booking on a Sunday evening, I was surprised to get a table for 4 within 15 mins. This was my 3rd visit to this place, and i must say it gets better all the time. The food, in terms of quality and quantity, was excellent. VFM for sure. However, the only thing that bothered me was thier service. It took 20 odd mins for the 2nd round order to arrive. It took them over 10 mins just to get my credit card back. Overall, a nice place to eat. A "must try atleast once" place.

Maybe my expectation level was too high...?

After the several positive reviews that I read on this site, I just couldn't wait to try this place out. So off we went on this Friday afternoon. The place was reasonably crowded with a gang of college girls celebrating a birthday and another group of women obviously having a kitty party. We were told that the non-smoking section does not open for lunch.

The chicken lemon grass soup was very, very good but the portion size left me disappointed. I'd read (on this site) about their mammoth portions...well, we ordered two soups for three of us and each of us got only half a small bowl. Maybe they gave us one by three...

We tried the chicken fe wontons (very unusual and tasty), garlic rice (this one reaffirmed what my fellow burrp-ites had said; the portion size was HUGE and we barely finished half) and chicken spicy pot (not bad but nothing to write home about). Unfortunately, the meal left us with no room for desserts. I dunno about the VFM bit - a relatively spartan meal for three cost us Rs. 845. Not bad for Bandra, I know, but not exactly cheap either.

Overall, we had a good meal but either I had set too high expectations from this place or something's come loose. Let me put it this way. If I was in the area and wanted a decent Chinese meal I'd go back, but wouldn't drive all the way from Powai like I did today.

VFM at its yummiest

After reading all the good reviews here, there is really not much to be said...just citing my experience in short -

After getting so many recommendations for 5 Spice- Pali, Bandra - I finally went there for lunch with a friend -

The food is AMAZING and i haven't seen quantities as LARGE as these ever - what we ordered for 2 can easily be devoured by FOUR OR FIVE people...

We ordered -

Veg Fe Wontons - Fried crispy wontons in a red gravy with lots of shredded veggies, absolutely delicious, but must be devoured immediately, you cannot doggie bag this one.

Burnt Chilly Fried Rice - all this recommended by my friend who is a regular here...one of the best fried rice i have ever eaten, with plenty of fried big red chillies (something like the tambram Mor Molagai which we have with curd rice) . This is so good you can have it all by itself. It is literally a mountain of rice - will need 5 hungry ppl to finish it all.

Mushrooms in Hunan Sauce - this was an OK dish, nothing out of the world as compared to the burnt chilly rice.

TO polish all of this - Death by Chocolate, soft decadent chocolate pastry, drizzled generously with chocolate sauce served with a scoop of dark chocolate icecream

All this for 600 bucks, with more than half parceled home for dinner...

If you haven't eaten here, you sure have missed something!

How many people!

The place can be spotted easily at Pali Naka (Bandra W) and is quite well turned-out (except some noisy families who frequent the joint every evening). Split in three levels, the decor is aesthetically pleasing. It is not very Buddha Buddha Buddha but a visitor can feel the blend of sharp contemporary elements with the soft-toned oriental ones.

Wondering what the review title means? We need downright observance to understand the phrase which is commonly encountered in Chinese and Thai restaurants in Bombay.

Waitresses in most of these joints try their level best to look/act Chinese. I laugh my guts out when the girl at the welcome desk says 'How many people'? :-) In her typical adenoidal (nasal) accent.

Not convinced...Go there once and experience this!

The food is good if you don’t have a super authentic Chinese food lover residing in your body. The portion sizes are BIG as in BIG. If you are one of those individuals for whom (Big Portion Size) is (Value for Money) – You should be living in 5 Spice!

This time we had a roast chicken with spring onions, chilly sesame chicken, burnt lamb chilly and chilly oyster noodles and we liked all of that. The desserts are fun – Mission Impossible (a giant pastry) is sinful and my number one dessert. The beauty of this piece of dessert is - the number of people who reserve this dessert is more than the number of people who make table reservations. Believe it or not - it is an observed fact. Chocolate hide n seek and chocolate almond pastries are also delicious.

Don’t forget ‘How many people’ the next time you go there!
