Good food, good ambience.

We were seated about an hour after we arrived. So make reservations before you land up there. We stuck to Italian on our visit and weren't disappointed in the least. The pastas were delicious, the bruschetta was good and the desserts were good too. The tables, I thought, were a bit too close to each other.
The service was friendly, if a little slow. Oh, and they do read the feedback - i got promotional stuff on my email.
All in all, a must visit place. Food much better (and cheaper) than Olive next doors.

A perfect Sunday lunch!

Die hard townies need a really good reason to make a trip to the suburbs especially for Sunday lunch. So what dragged us to "Out of the Blue"?An airport drop at an odd time like 12 made it impossible for us to eat lunch before or make it in time for a lunch after. So we thought we'd lunch in Bandra instead.

Our young daughter who loves hanging out with her friends in Bandra recommended this place which she said has recently opened. The USP she said was actually its restroom!!!!!! What a strange thing - I always thought people went to restaurants to eat but obviously having a good restroom is a plus.

We were told to go down the street from the Cafe Coffee Day corner at Carter Road till we came to the restaurant. But going down we realised meant going up - because this is a hill ( duh??) . Anyways, we very nearly passed the Blue board announcing its name and were about to turn back home when we saw it.

After this unpropitious start, I was a bit apprehensive about how the experience would turn out. Would it be a generational clash? Would it be another re-inforcement of how terrible the service is in the suburbs? My worries were unfounded.

A pleasant hostess gently reminded me that I was over an hour later than my reservation but still escorted us to a nice table overlooking the courtyard.

While the decor is not spectacular, it had a comfortable and pleasant feel. The air conditioning was just right, the resturant suitably full and a general air of happiness. The outside looked equally tempting despite the May heat thanks to the canopy placed over head which made dancing patterns of muted sunlight on the tables below. Soon after we settled down, we heard the wonderful sound of the Beatles and were surprised to find that it was not a recording but the regular singer ( Sagrif the hostess told me though I am quite sure this is not his name). She said that he and his friend play in the evenings on weekdays while he plays on the weekends. So this was an unexpected bonus - a live singer who actually sang well and could sing the songs we asked for. Of course our requests were not unusual but there are some singers who have not heard of Frank Sinatra let alone "My Way". So if a singer can give us his rendition of "My Way", it definitely puts him high on our scale of a good musician.

The food we had was simple : A Caeser's Salad, a spaghetti in tomato sauce and a Penne with creamy sauce with ham and chicken. The portions were just right and tasty - not too cheesy and not pasty.

The staff were courteous and helpful with the young hostess obligingly carrying our requests to the singer. The waiters were polite and willing to please by taking back the not so cold soda and getting us a bottle that was chilled to our satisfaction.

While the place is not cheap, it is definitely value for money and with the singer thrown in - worth making a trip from town!

And yes, the restroom is unusual - with actual Art works on the wall! "Out of the Blue" has a distinctly "young" feel, quite unlike the restaurants in town which seem OOOOLD and jaded - at least full of old people ( may not be chronologically but definitely attitudinally).

Stunning ambience

Out of the blue is a regular hang out with friends and family when they visit me in Mumbai. I love the outdoor seating under the shade of the canvas awning and fans that spray mist and add to the great atmosphere in addition to making up for air conditioning. The tables are lit by candle light and dim lighting and it makes for a very relaxing evening out. They have a wonderful musician, Siegfrid who adds to the magic of dinner with his soulful ballads- He is a regular feature on the weekends, I believe.
The sizzlers served on a bed with mashed potatoes or rice along with steamed veggies or fries are my eternal favourite. The seafood festival also had some great dishes...The fondues are unremarkable and best avoided-especially the ones with the Indianized twist. The wine list is impressive! Definitely worth a visit when one is looking for a relaxing evening out with family or friends. Try their desserts- it would be sin to bypass them. They are truly out of the world!

Ambrosia!!!

Been to this place twice. Loved it both times!!
Stuff that i've tried here:

The gourmet seafood sizzler.....awesome!!

The Four Cheese Fondue....if u're a cheese fan, u'll want an
encore of this one.

The salmon pasta.....dont remember wot sauce it was in...but again very good

The seafood risotto....the flavour was a little too sour for my taste

Drunken Prunes....seriously, i was in HEAVEN!! the white wine complemented the prunes and vanilla ice-cream really well...

The service was good....nothing special....
The courtyard seating is very comfy.

All in all a wonderful experience...damages are about 600 bucks a head.

Terrible.......terrible

To start with, our reservations at the table were given to someone else, and what should hav been a 15 minutes wait turns out to be a boring 60 minutes wait! and that too after constant rounds of appeals to the manager.

A total turn off, specially it being a Saturday night.

Once we get seated at our table, we hav to try our best to catch the attention of a waiter who could atleast give us some menus.

Even more effort was given to get one of the waiters to write down our order. The quality of the staff was poor, and they all pronounced the names of the dishes as if they just got out of Nepal.

Not to forget that the lighting was so poor that we had to really strain our eyes to read the text.

The food too was a letdown, my grilled vegetables are just not overcooked, they were burnt BLACK, and the chicken with bbq sauce wasnt any extraordinary.
The pasta preparation again was quite poor. Nothing exicting at all.

Simple restaurant ethics was not followed, the maincourse portions were put on the table without removing the soiled appetizers plates. ...................the list never stops.

This is a classic example of a Good place gone Real bad, and i dont suppose it is going to get any better anytime soon.
