More than Parathe wali galli

When I first reached MTP, I was a little disappointed and frustrated with the traffic and lack of parking space. Once the Valet took over and I walked in, the staff was polite and I started feeling better. By the time we left we had already made plans to be back soon.

Don't miss the kebabs, to get a good sampling of the fare on offer, we got the platter and I would rate the kebabs as some of the best in Bangalore.

With the Parathe wali galli in Delhi fresh in our minds, we wanted to get a good sampling of their parathas and we weren't disappointed. Right from the standard Aloo Paratha to the innovative Jodhpuri Garlic Parantha were fantastic. As authentic as it gets. We thought the variety in main courses could be a little better but what was on offer completely hit the spot.

Overall we thought it was a little pricey but completely worth it.

Trip down purani dilli cuisine

Love for Food

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food”, said George Bernard Shaw. One visit to More Than Paranthas, the new authentic fine dining Indian restaurant in Koramangala and you will know why. True to its name, this immaculate joint serves more than just paranthas. Infact, its specialty is the scrumptious chaats and the delectable kebabs.

The 7000 sq ft area smacks of chic finery with tables of black marble with inlay work and Rajasthani cut work mirrors on the walls, with subdued lights adding to the magic. Here you can take a journey to Old Delhi cuisine, the name that symbolizes gourmet and kitsch, aromas and secret recipes. The scrumptious dishes are reminiscent of the Paranthewali Gali or the Jama Masjid in Delhi, served in a five-star ambiance. The Bhatti ka murg (spring chicken marinated in yoghurt and spices), Murg malai lazeez, Bharwan nawabi tangri, Kasturi Kebab, Nawabi mutton, Seekh kebab and many more are indubitable. There’s also a whole range of shakahari kebabs like the mirch paneer tikka, dahi ke kebabs and the likes. These soft, melt in the mouth kebabs are cooked in an original coal sigdi and to top it all, I was told the paneer comes airborne from Delhi.

The main course dishes from the shakahari subziyan (paneer makhmali, aloo wadiyaan) to the non-veg dastarkhwaan (murg joshina, rara murg Punjabi, keema kaleji etc.) left me yearning for more. The Lukhnawi biryanis were finger licking. On my other visit, I chose from a hundred varieties of innovative and yummy paranthas which rule the roost with a complete range in Masahari stuffed paranthas, Pocket paranthas with stuffed kebabs, crispy paranthas Jodhpur ke khazane se and Kabil-e-tareef paranthas like the sharabi parantha (made of dry fruits soaked in alcohol overnight, stuffed and served on flames). The service though was a little slow, but I guess everything good in life doesn't come easy.

There was also an exhaustive liquor menu for my partner with some amazing cocktail concoctions for me. To wind up a perfect Indian fare we tried the jalebi with rabri and the shahi kulfi with falooda.

But one word of advice to people booking their tables at More Than Paranthas – the chaats and kebabs are a must try; don’t just gorge on the paranthas, or else you’ll be missing a whole lot.
Complete meal for two: Rs. 1000.

Its all about Paranthas and More!!

When I called MTP to book the table, we were told they book it only till 7:30PM and beyond that, we need to walkin and wait…
I dint want to be late. So, me and my friend made it on time.

The small stair entrance leads you towards the beautiful door and the moment you step in, you would find the dim lit dining hall, with the shiny read and off-white stones laid on the floor. Those shiny red ones are like the one in Umerkot. We opted for the corner table, next to the window.. the interiors showcases the mughul kinda work all over. The walls, the tables, the design on the window pane, the attire of the waiters, etc… It has a royal and the luxurious look reminding one about the old Delhi and the Rajasthan

The table has the thick black stone with the intricate pattern of smaller stones inlaid on it. Looked like one of the finest of the mughul work extremely detailed and delicate.
The drinks menu card was the usual… the next menu card given, had the chaats , starters and the mocktail list. We ordered the Dahi puchka which I loved though my friend felt it was a little too sweet. Then it was the Stuffed Aloo Gulnar which tasted amazing with the mint chutney!!
Along with this, we also ordered the Mr.India (mocktail) and Sweet lassi. Lassi was the usual but, Mr.India was good!

For the main course, they have a separate menu card which is exhaustive!!! There are hundreds of mouth watering paranthas listed!!
Banjee ke roti (the usual ones we get in any other restaurant), Kabil-e-tarif, Pocket parantha, Jodhpur ke khazane se, Regular Masahari Stuffed Paranthas, Premium Shakahari Stuffed Paranthas, Paranthewali Gali Ki Peshkash were a few of the classifications under which there were a number of paranthas listed.

The waiter suggested the Jodhpuri Garlic Parantha and the Chur chur Parantha (mix of chakki flour, suji, butter and ajwain kneaded, stuffed and roasted). This was crisp and crushed and was too heavy by the time we finished it. The Dal-e-MTP with those paranthas was the best combination. It was cooked with lots butter and cream. The meal was wholesome and sumptuous.
It was one of the best meals I ever had in the recent past. Really!!

A meal for two without drinks would approximately cost Rs.1100/-

The service was quick and prompt and the waiters helped us in selecting the paranthas. The ambience was brilliant, food was excellent and the price was slightly on the expensive side.
A highly recommended place for the exuberant ambience with delicious food :)
