Great Experience

Went here on a family dinner and had a great meal in a very pleasant ambience.

The first thing I liked about this place was the menu - very systematically designed - one could go to exactly the page they're looking for without having to browse through 5 other pages and hunt around!

To start off, we ordered the Veg Sweet Corn and Nanking Special (chicken) soups, both of which were very good as was the accompanying Fried Corn Curd - nice and soft centers with a subtle flavour. The best order of the evening though was their signature Stir / Pan Fried Pomfret - absolutely heavenly - boneless, just the right combination and amount of seasoning and a generous quantity...don't mind going again just for this starter (costliest dish of the evening as well, Rs 800 + tax)!!

Dinner was good - ordered a Claypot Veg Rice which had shitake mushrooms and some dehydrated veggies (didnt like the latter), Veg Hakka Noodles, Chicken & Veg in Schezwan sauces and a Fuyong (best I've had in B'lore) - all good with the right flavours, not overpowering and in generous quanities, but nothing to touch the pomfret starter!!

Followed up dinner with a Honey Noodles with Ice Cream - thought we'd order one to see how it was here and the quantity was enough for the 4 of us to leave the restaurant with a pleasant flavour in the mouth. Unlike in other places where the noodles are just dipped in honey, here, the noodles were thoroughly saturated in it and not made overly crisp - just perfect!

The evening cost us Rs 3,000 (4 people) and we'd ordered a couple of soft drinks as well, no alcohol. Net net, I'd recommend this place for anyone who wants to have a genuine Chinese meal (no tomato ketchup..!!!) in a pleasant ambience with presentable and knowledgeable staff (god knows they're a rarity in B'lore restaurants).

Good for vegetarians as well

For a long time I had been eyeing Nanking, but being vegetarian, I did not have the courage to go there as it was touted as being very authenticly Chinese and hence not veg-friendly.

Well, I braved it and guess what, this place is just awesome. The decor is tasteful. The service prompt and not in your face, and the best part is the food. This was just the best Chinese food I had had in Bangalore. Ask for suggestions as the menu does not list everything they have to offer, and go with the suggestions.

We had momos which was just the right size with a mustard sauce that was lip-smacking. Followed by noodles and clap-pot rice which was so good. The best dish was a 'soy-bean chicken' (which is veg btw) in hot garlic sauce for which the tofu was done so right. This is a place that has to be on top of your list if you are looking for good Chinese in this city...

Excellent Chinese Food

The first thing that struck me about this restaurant was that we didn't have to wait for a table on a Saturday night! That's right... Take that, Bangalore! Our visit to Nanking was unplanned. We were two tired and hungry shoppers who were willing to settle for pretty much anything that night. Since we were in the mall and had seen Nanking's posters outside the mall, we thought why not.

The restaurant's entrance was deceptively small - the dining area was huge and well done-up. I was (pleasantly) surprised that we were seated right away at a comfortably huge table - usually, tables for two are tiny and squeezed into corners.

Almost as I had settled into my cushy chair and finished admiring the decor, the server came up with menus. That was the next thing that scored with me - the impeccable and polite service. (Yes, it was impeccable AND polite!) Our server seemed happy to suggest items to us. Based on his rrecommendations, we ordered for mostly sea-food, which was as fresh, flaky (where appropriate!), and perfect as it gets. Also had steamed vegetable dumplings and pan-fried noodles which were simply delish! The server also suggested the crab for our next visit!

The food is expensive. A dinner for two is close to Rs.2000 with drinks. But hey, no wait time, super service, and mouth-watering food... What more can a tired and hungry shopper ask for?!

Some of the Finest Chinese in India

This is by far the No. 1 Chinese restaurant in Bangalore - I've been a regular at Nanking since the week they opened and the food has never been less than awesome. Be it Fish, Chicken, Crab or anything else, it's made just the way it should be at Nanking. Here Bamboo rice is cooked in Bamboo and claypot rice in claypot, unlike some other places claiming to be very chinese where rice is stuffed in Bamboo after cooking. And you can taste the difference.

Nanking is a little on the expensive side if you go alone. But for two, most meals should cost 800-1000. If you are a group of four you might want to try their mouthwatering crab for 2500

Warning : It's addictilicious!
