Momos and Shaptras
My base Hyderabad does not have good Momo joints , so when I went to Bangalore I asked around and was recommended this joint.
This place is in the 2nd floor of a shopping centre in a lane off Brigade. As you enter the place you find it packed with youngsters. The rates are cheap - Rs 40 for a plate of Chicken Momo. A beef version is also available.
The dish which I liked here is Beef Shaptra (also available as a chicken version). Shaptra essentially is a tibetan soya based non-veg curry along with Tibetan bread. It is delicious and at Rs 40 light on your pocket too.
Thukpas (Tibetan noodle broth) and noodles are available here too. The place is very crowded and you have to wait for a table.
Cost - Rs 160 for 2 persons.

Yummy Momo's
Finally there is a place, which doesn't burn a hole in your pocket and fills you up at the same time. The momo's are just too delicious. I don't mind the service. For the amount you pay you expect the service to be slack. Here is a tip, go there between 12 and 12:30, it gets too crowded after that.

Tibet in a room.
If you want to know about a place, you should try out the local cuisine there. And Taste of Tibet serves the authentic Tibetan cuisine. Small but splendid with traditional décor, the Taste of Tibet brings the real flavors of Tibet in a room.
This little place has something to please all. The food menu features the delicious Tibetan delicacies like momo, shabaly, shuptra, thukpa, thianthuk chowmein & etc. The price is pocket friendly and a hit with students & IT professionals. The restaurant is usually occupied with Tibetans in the city and it is self service yet crowds happily wait. Before visiting TOT, I used to wonder why? Here is the answer. It’s not just good food but the vibrant & unique atmosphere of the place that pulls the crowd. It’s a kind of magic.
Now a regular to this place, my top three must try are MOMO, thukpa & chowmein. Momo, steamed dumpling prepared from wheat flour and meat/ vegetables is a common Tibetan food. Available in two varieties: steamed & fried, momo top the list. The food reminds me of my school days in the land of mystic splendor Sikkim. Momo are said to be actually originated here. Second on the list is thukpa- a typical Tibetan style noodles in soup. There is another type of noodles too called the thianthuk. Thian in Tibetan means the thumb. Theses noodles are made with the thumb and are flat like ribbon.
Last but not the least is chowmein- fried noodles. Chowmein takes its name from the Chinese dish “chao mian”. But the taste is different, in chowmein the noodles are deep fried which are crisp and brittle; whereas in Chinese dish the noodles are soft. All the above three are eaten with a dab of pungent pickle made out of chopped tomatoes, onions & red chilies. No matter what you choose, the food is fantastic and your hand will remain in constant motion until the food vanishes. This little restaurant is a paradise for momo lovers and is colloquially known as “Momo restaurant”
Taste of Tibet is not as snobbish like the swanky hotels around but has its own charms. The real charm of any place resides in the ambience and here it’s warm & friendly with delicious dishes to whet your appetite. The only drawback here is the lack of washroom. However, there is one outside the restaurant but shared by all the shops around. If you are a people person or a momo-holic or wanna just try out Tibetan food. This is the perfect place. So stop in & experience the real taste of Tibet.
