A sudden plan for lunch which got postponed to dinner in addition to a great craving for the seafood, landed 4 friends at the much obvious Kudla. It is located next to The Legacy of Punjab in the Ramanshree Towers. Kudla serves Konkan Cuisine – Marvellous food from Kerala, Mangalore, Maharashtra and Goa. Flower decoration in earthen pots, traditional brass lamps and Kathakali masks decorate the restaurant. Tanks with live crabs, waiters dressed in traditional caps made with betel nut leaves, dhoti-kurta with the shalya add to the coastal feeling.
When you are in the west coast, act like, well, you belong! So, we tried the Kokum Kadi, a pink concoction that contained the marvelous sourness of kokum fruit that gives konkan fruit its distinct flavour. The Rasam, very South Indian, gave a soothing feeling for the chilled evening. Spiced Sago Chips / Papads (Sandige) were the freebie starters that are offered in a basket. The Prawns Fry, The Prawns Butter Garlic Pepper and The Mushroom and Babycorn Tawa Fry infused with ground Mangalorean spices was a huge hit – made just right, lightly pan fried, not too soft or crisp and without excess oil.
Main course consisted of succulent Pomfret curry which was a huge hit too and made a right combination with the white rice. The fluffy Kerala Appams tasted delicious with the Vegetable Stew – Vegetables cooked in the coconut milk and the coconut based gravy. We rounded off the meal with Ragi Manni – an excellent dessert which was not too sweet with the oh-just-right jaggery.
Kudla is an excellent choice if you are looking for Konkan Food. Service is reasonable – the no scrambling of tables and no hurrying over your meal reminds one of Bangalore a decade ago. Patrons are mostly family and older professionals. I recommend this place for a laid back lunch / dinner with family and friends. A meal for 4 would cost around 1800/- depending on the seafood you order.

Not the best Mangalorean food joint around, but SWMBO likes it. So, I like it. I don't care too much about restaurant ambiences (Kudla is too dingy) as long as they serve booze (which they do). And they give unlimited amounts of sandige as starters. Yum!

On a sunday afternoon me and a friend decided to go to Kudla, we knew the place was good. we were lucky enough that we had to "only" for 15-20 mins...mind you if you a large group you might find it difficult get a place on a weekend...anyway we knew the wait was worth.. :)..the food is fantastic...ofcourse...if you dont like manglorean food then this is surely not the place to be...after all the wait...be ready for a very slow and relaxed meal the service makes sure its exactly that..even if you are in a hurry... :)..Prices are on the higher side a meal for two would cost around 700-800..surely for the quality of the food you wont mind spending a bomb :)..
