Good food, atmosphere, lousy kids policy

Atmosphere is very nice but bring Odomos for the bugs. Konkani food is (for me) new and interesting, and quite tasty. Enjoyed it a lot. They tried to talk us out of some "really spicy" dishes which were not all that spicy in the end.

Service was attentive enough, and they didn't stand right next to you watching you eat like some waiters here in Bangalore.

The kids policy is pretty ridiculous. If they have a problem with safety, then you fix the problem, not make it only unsafe for kids on weekdays. If the problem is controlling the kids, you ask the unruly ones to leave. To have a no-kids-on-weekends rule just seems stupid.

No booze available, also a minus point.

Probably would go again, but only on weekdays and would bring my own liquor.

not child friendly

i heard that this palce was really good, but when i called to book a table they said kids are not allowed over the weekend, becase the railings were made of wood??!!! dosent make sense.. so is this a unsafe place only on the weekends or is it that they hate kids?? i dont think i ever want to go to a restaurant where the kids are not welcome.... ...
lots of place go really really out of the way to make the kids comfortable..but this is problly the only restaurant who doesnt want them to come...

Good Mangalorean food

I agree with the previous reviewer. Good ambience and good food. Very authentic and the seafood is very fresh. They recently introduced a new rule that they may have to change in order to keep the diners coming in. They don't allow children under 12 years on Saturday and Sunday nights. This is because the restaurant is on the 3rd floor and open-air and they felt that some parents didn't have a good handle on the kids running about. The waiters are too busy with the large crowd on weekend nights to keep an eye on them. Still, if you can go for lunch on the weekend or during the week, it's a very nice place.

Best Restaurant Experience

Kanua, a type of rice eaten by the Konkanas lost to mankind due to increasing homogenization of the world. Named after a lost species/genus (need to relearn my midddle school biology) this restaurant could definitely get lost because of the location. But contrary to perceptions it rocks and crowds seem to be pouring in.
Superb decor, very different. Rajesh Pai the owner seems to exude taste and the restaurant seems to have taken after his personality. Unassuming, friendly but surprisingly authentic.
The food is just superb. Try the Chicken ghee roast...very good and very very authentic. So are most of the dishes. Lacking in 2 things-no alcohol served and desserts are very ordinary.
Excellent decor, open air feel. Good place to unwind as the people here are riendly and unhurried. Never pressurise you to eat/order. Can take your time.
Prices are fair compared to some of the restaurants in Bangalore.
Average cost fo meal for 2 - Rs.350 for vegetarians and Rs.500 for Non Vegetarians.
Must visit and highly recommended.
