Veg Lovers - Can Avoid

Ambience : Different but sometimes lights are very dim & sitting place is uncomfortable.

Service : Nice but never ask their suggestion as they will suggest you the food which they made in great quantity. even we have seen they will try to serve same dish to every one.

Food : Veg is ok, but i heard non veg is realy good.

Price : Seems over expensive for veg

Always go after reservation!

Just one word...contentment!

This is one place I can never get enough of.Let me begin with the decor of this place, keeping in line with the Mughlai theme, the ambience is amazing with low rustic chairs, dim lighting, impressive frescoes on the walls and very good fusion music. The beverage menu arrives on a bottle and the food menu is innovatively spread across their own custom newspaper.

You are served with cold towels upon arrival(I wish they were hot though) , a glass full of (i dont know what these are made of) stick nibblies with cream and some pickled/vinegared fruit(i think these are peach but I have had debates about this every time i ve been there).

I never take the starters here as its a bit much for me to eat considering I always struggle finishing the main course, though I do recall a mushroom dish which was quite good. The mocktails are quite interesting and comes in super large glasses.Coming to the main course, the roomali roti are to die for and my fixed favorite has been the mirch ka salan(also has brinjal, which I love) which comes in a coconut gravy.I tried the Dal this time which as usual made me realise that every dish here is as good as the other. Its creamy and rich and probably the best I've had anywhere till date. You've not got too many types of rice but I always get the Saffron rice which has a nice aroma about it.

For the dessert,I chose the Kubani ka meetha which is once again very rich(lots of apricot) and filling. At this point when one feels very fat and content, the in-house pan guy comes along with a wide variety of pans that one can choose from(very pricey though!).A meal for two can set you back very easily by Rs.1500 though I can guarantee that you will leave with a great sense of happiness with the food and the experience.

My only grouch here would probably be the not so very friendly waiters who seem to believe smiles cost money but I will forgive them for that as the food more than makes up for it.

GOOD AFGHAN FOOD

Cuisine Type :Afghan / Moghul.
Segment : Middle class /Upper Middle class( Price Wise)
Afghan Theme based.
Valet parking available.

Finally got the oppurtunity to go to Samarkand. So I had a lot of expectations from this place.

The overall ambeience of the place is good. But found it a bit dark. Liked the idea of wet towels given to u once seated to clean ur face, very innovative. Only the main 2 areas of the restaurant have Afgan styled carpets on the wall. The rest of the area is not so loud.

The menu was very innovative and intresting as it's on a local Afghan newspaper and drinks menu is on the bottle.

The Food :Sticks to the theme, and the cuisine. Good Quality of food. Service of food is very prompt.
We ordered the Sheek kabab, which was good, but thought they should serve atleast 4 pieces as it was almost 200 bucks.
The kheema filled naan was simply awesome, they are really very big in size , so the quantity is too much. This is about 130 bucks, but just damn good, worth every penny. The peshwari chicken was very good, small chilli cooked made it look really nice.
The Biryani. My main agenda was the biryani as i'm trying to taste the best one in town.So I already knew whom i would be comparing the Biryani to - Sahib Sindh Sultan.

The biryani is good, but not as good as the Sahib Sindh Sultan.Tastes almost like though, but cannot beat SSS.
The best biryani so is still served at SSS.

Price wise this place is a bit expensive somehow.
I didn't try the drinks here.

SERVICE WAS GOOD BUT I THINK THE STAFF SHOULD SMILE A BIT MORE.
The bill arrived in time, the waiters were very prompt.

Overall i was very happy with the place however a bit unsatisfied at the end that's because i probably expected a better Biryani. Nonetheless u should definitely try out this place.

I would rate this place GOOD - 4 STARS.

Going downhill

I've been there 10 times in 3 years, and it's steadily getting less and less impressive.

The waiters are less helpful

The food prices are rising very quickly.

The quality of the food is, sad to say, not where it was 3 years ago.

I'd still go, but not as a first choice place.

I like the tandoor (sword) chicken, and the 'leg' of lamb (not really a leg, just shaped like one, and the gulawati kebabs. The fish is hit-or-miss. The veggies are just so-so.
