Bangalore Bistro: Mediterranean food at it's best

After moving out from Cunningham Road, Bistro is now located on Brigade road, soon after St Joseph's Commerce college, in the same building that houses South Indian bank, on the 3rd floor. Before going there, I decided to checkout their website, and was impressed at the dishes that I saw on the menu page. Either this was an undiscovered gem of a place dishing out quality Mediterranean food, or another wannabe in a long list of wannabes.

A couple of friends of mine and I went there and started off with Virgin Mary's, and it was by far the best Virgin Mary I've ever had. When it came to having a soup, the Bistro menu is quite audacious. There's just a single line under soups that reads 'We would be glad to cook up anything for you'. We asked for a Mexican veg soup, and specifically asked the waiter to ask the chef to make it moderately spicy for the normal Indian palate, and the soup came out perfect. Apart from the food, the china used is beautiful and Bistro scores high for the cutlery, along with the decor, ambiance and food.

With the soups out of the way, we ordered a burchetta platter and a caroza, both of which were wonderful. The platter had some really mouth watering toppings and was value for money. For the main course, we had a veg mock meat steak (soy based), a veal chops with bbq sauce, and a paella matador (squid, prawn, fish and mussells mixed with rice, saffron and herbs). The quantity was great, the quality, excellent, the presentation, very good. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the cost for all that we had (drinks, soups, starters and main course) came up to a little over 1500, which by no means is expensive for food of this quality.

All in all, an excellent restaurant for those who relish the subtleties in Mediterranean and Italian food as opposed to the otherwise overpowering taste of spices in Indian food. I would give this place a little over 4 out of 5, but since that's not possible, I'll give it a 5 and hope the next reviewer gives it a 4 to even it out :)
