"SHUT THE REST SOUL'S THE BEST"

Review soul deli café
Here comes the answer to what bangalore lacks a “real café”.soul deli café on mg road is just the place to go to and absolutely unwind. We went there for dinner after hearing about it from a couple of friends it caught our attention the moment we were opposite it, to put it simply brilliant lighting and an awesome décor blew our mind.

The look of the menu and the wide selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, mains, desserts were spot on. It took us no time to decide what we wanted.

We got started with the burnt garlic cilantro soup, which was piping hot and definitely wouldn’t get something like this in BANGALORE. The Caesars salad was outstanding.
One got the sense of sitting at a café in Paris and yes we sat outside as the weather did not permit us to sit inside as it was awesome an awesome view and was so tempting. The outside of soul is much better than the inside although the inside is very classy. The new sheesha lounge outside is just mind blowing with rich good looking kids hanging around.Definately a better take on "mocha".
And then as we waited for the main course the music kept us busy as it was what we enjoyed the most, hip-hop.
And then came the mains fish in lemon butter sauce a little underdone although the sauce was good, the prawns were perfect and the best was the chicken steak, which was very delicious.
The grand finale however was not to what we expected, we get better desserts elsewhere although the tiramisu should carry a special mention.

The service is top class the ambience high voltage and the food a winner. Go to soul as the staff says and I quote “ we give life to your soul by giving you great food, great service and a great ambience” completely agree, if you thought the ambience is cool check the food out . SOUL’S the best shut the rest, go man!! here’s something youv’e never experienced before.

Could Improve

I went there for a quick lunch .

The soup was excellent. The Chicken pepper broth. Def good if your down feeling weak. perks you up.Thick n rich

I then had the club sandwitch. This was sad. The taste of raw onions and capsicum overpowered the taste of chicken and egg and everything else that went into the sandwitch. and yeah its too filling for one person.

Prices are definetely on the higher side. They should make portions that could be smaller and easier on a guys pocket and Im sure ull find alot more people frequenting the place. The service was good. The waitress was very polite.Ill def go back for the soup and do plan to try the salads, but never the club sandwitch. I did mention the club sandwitch to the manager so maybe they might improve it .But I wont write them off just yet.

Pathetic and Awful!

The way this cafe has been made (location, interior decoration and overall look) is fantastic. In fact I would like to give the designer a prize!

But but but, Soul Deli cafe is strictly avoidable for several reasons:

(1) BAD EXHORBITANT FOOD (I ordered just a black forest pastry, they gave it to me with extra cream, which I had never asked for and they charged 150 bucks for a 4 day stale pastry). The peach iced tea I ordered had a nice lemon slice stuck outside and nice small pieces of a polythene bag floating inside.

(2) PATHETIC SERVICES: The aforementioned food arrived in about 30 minutes when the waitor had assured me for 10 minutes (Later on I realized they took my order to some other table which caused confusion which in turn caused delay).

(3) CARELESS ATTITUDE: I paid by my credit card for my food, they took it and they took the signing slip alongwith my card to some other table. Thankfully I was observing the movement of the waitor and I intervened in time.

(4) ARROGANT ATTITUDE: After an amazing experience which I wrote above, I rightfully wanted to talk to the manager face to face to give some feedback. I told this to 3 independent waitors but sadly my message was apparently never conveyed to him. I had to leave the place after waiting for nearly 10 minutes.

Anyway, if you are still daring enough to go to the place, remain ready for sad service and plastic pieces in your beverage.

Jokes apart, do avoid the place. There are nice cafes and restaurants on MG Road and around which you can try.

For sandwiches on MG Road

SDC is a hip new basement café on MG Road, in the location of the now defunct Underground pub. The place has a very New Age lounge feel with a waterfall at the entrance and outdoor seating with neat chairs and even fans to cool you. The indoor A/C seating area is done up in with dark wooden furniture with clean lines, trendy ceiling lamps and a little deli counter with desserts, breads and cheese in a corner.

The menu is a very interesting mix of beverages, soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, grills and desserts. We tried the citrus cooler and the mango lemon fizz and both were very refreshing and surprisingly not too high on the sugar content. The chicken tikka salad was good with succulent marinated chicken pieces, iceberg lettuce, red and yellow capsicum and onions and was exactly the right size for a starter salad for two. The salad came with a fresh, warm bread basket and chilli herb butter which was delicious. We picked the Friendly Lion and Tuna Melt sandwiches for the main course. A word of warning – the sandwiches are huge and definitely are more than a meal by themselves. They come with sides of crispy onion rings, French fries and lettuce, cucumber and carrots. The Friendly Lion consisted of avocado spread, roasted green capsicum, jalapenoes and tomato on white bread. Absolutely delicious, it reminded me of sandwiches from NYC delis. The Tuna Melt was authentic too and fantastic as well. Other interesting options which we did not try included the chilli burgers, the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and Moroccon Chicken. The sandwiches being too heavy, we did not have room for dessert.

A meal for two is approximately Rs.800. Couple of suggestions to the restaurant – service needs to be improved. It was slow at times and many a time we felt like they were being a little too intrusive when we were taking our time to decide our order – a café will have the feel of a café only when it allows people to linger. Another very strong suggestion – please change the music. It was awful and wandered between New Age instrumental to Arabic (?) music. The food, though, is a winner, although I think it is a little too pricey by café standards.
