Superb afghan food!
For anybody who hasnt tried afghani food, Samarkhand is a must.
The restaurant is located on Infantry Road, and to reach. As such its a popular eatry, and hence reservatoin is a must. The decor is very nice, but appears a bit crowded. samarkhand sports an open kitchen, ie. its walls are glass and provides one with a clear view of eveything that goes on in there...
Coming to the food and the service. the service is very good, and the waiters are dressed in the traditional garb, and very attentive to your needs.
The unique menu card, is in the form of a local newspaper. One can read snippets of afghani lifestyle, their beliefs, traditions etc, interspaces with the menu. Makes for pleasant reading. The food is really devine. being a vegetarian, i will vouch for a really delicious and scumptous meal there. I ve heard from fellow diners that the non-veg is uncomparable!
The wallet factor: its a little heavy on the the purse, a meal for 4 will be around 2000/- ( including drinks)

Quality of Food is detoriating
It is still a good place for good authentic food but the quality of food is not the same as one would have tasted few years back. The staff is not very courteous and prefer foreigners

well i can only say this "eat it to belive it".. the staff is a little ignorant but they served the best chicken iv ever tasted..

The food is really good with the ambience n seatings matching n adding pluses 2 it........
if a person is foody then shd definately go SAMARKAND!!!!!!!

Awful and rude staff
I had taken my friend there one day for lunch and it was pretty crowded so the staff asked us to wait for 30 mins to give us a table. I waited for 1 hour and did not hear from them, when I went and confronted, that lady acted she was seeing me for the first time and when i reminded her she told me rudly "I thought you had left" and to make matters worse she lied right to my face that she had called up my mobile when I had not even given her my number. So finally when we did get the table and sat down to order there was nothing much from the menu available whatever was available was horrible dried up wasted food.When I did not leave any tip the waiters gave me a cold stare as if it is there birth right to get a tip. I left the place in disgust thnking I would never come back again.
