It is with much sadness that I would dare to write today to undermine one of my favorite restaurant.
Desmonds, was something I would have vouched for. However, to my amazement the service and food which I once enjoyed is something, that would make me shudder after my last experience.
I had the opportunity to visit the Koramangla outlet for lunch on November 7, 2008. The fixed non-vegetarian buffet was spread, by the pot-belly waiter with poor probing or selling skills.
My concern today is both about the service and quality of the food spread. The service personnel were indifferent and discourteous. Some with big pot-bellies treading slowly toward you, when beckoned and the other agile waiters standing at corner with their eyes glued to television screen cheering for a cricket match, played amongst whom, I am not clear. But, with Kulcha and bread stock on the table reaching almost to none and having not a single soul around, who could replenish it, was depressing. All polite efforts to attract someone’s attentions went in vain, when trying to distract the necks bent upward watching television and the others engaging in personal conversations.
This has not been the first experience that I have noticed service personnel at Desmonds being non-attentive to the customers. Quite often, I have witnessed the same at the Lavelle Road - outlet too.
The food spread was depressing – Rajma, Chicken Gravy, Gujrati Kadi, Dal , Bread, Rice and Ice Cream. The Chicken tasted raw and was more like chicken dunked in tomato juice. To add to this misery, imbecile waiters are not aware what quick service is. Quick service, means steal the customer’s plate the moment the fork and spoon are laid down. And if you think, you want to relax over your meal , you get the prompt waiter, asking are you done , are you done. The moment you finish chewing your last mouthful of the OK OK food, the fingerbowl is brought in and one hand of waiter is holding one corner of the plate. With a mouthful of food you are forced to shun manners aside and politely say, please wait. Napkins if they fell of your lap onto the ground, walked on by customers with their shoes, was folded neatly and place on the table for your use again. Plates were stained by the hands that served them – writing ink transferred from waiters hands onto the white cutlery.
I would call my experience on the whole very depressing and not worth a second visit.
Lunch buffet for 2 costs about Rs. 300 with all taxes and service charges , is definitely a no value for money.
I would not possibly recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. Once bitten, twice shy

Dinner buffet at Desmond's was pretty good. The food is served at the table and consists of 2 starters, salad, soup, pretty yumm rotis, 3 sabjis and rice. For desserts they served Strawberry ice cream. All this cost abt Rs.199/person+taxes.
Adds to the endless list of restaurants and choices available in Koramangala, but defn a safe bet

Everything about the place including the food was average. The place is usually empty even on weekends so that shoud give you an idea about the quality. Dont know about the buffet lunch and hence cannot comment.

Lunch buffet consists of 3 vegetables + dal + raita + rice + tandoori rotis + usual assortment of pickles onions etc. Desert is choice of vanilla or strawberry ice cream. I found the food fairly good (not too spicy) and the rotis were the thin (which makes them slightly crispy) which I like.
Lunch was served by the staff on the table ... i.e., you don't stand in some queue to get your lunch (I hated to see the massive wastage of food though since they bring you a lot more than you can possibly eat).
Ambiance: Pretty decent and clean atmosphere .. staff was all well dressed and the table was well laid out with table cloth, clean cutlery etc ... wasn't crowded during the weekday that I went (around 1 pm). Overhead music was the usual soft pop/rock (english) which was not too loud.
Location: This is in the adjacent lane running parallel to the jyoti nivas college rd in koramangala. It is right at the entrance of the lane. 2 wheeler parking is plenty ... car parking can also be found if not too crowded.
Cost: Rs 99/- only for a pretty decent buffet. However, be warned that they do add in a 10% service charge (i.e, forced tipping) over and above the 12.5% tax. Total = Rs 121.
A la carte items can also be had ... this place serves both veg and non-veg along with beer as well if you wish. I didn't check the menu prices though.
[A minor rant: To all smokers .. . damn you guys! You spoil half the fun of eating out at good places for us non-smokers].
