Great , but not sure if its for me..
It was my birthday . I am going to try flying a microlite , hang gliding or experimenting with Japanese food , I told the Significant Other . THe speed with which a reservation was made at Bangalore's only Japanese restaurant ,Harima was awesome.
I bravely tried sushi once before in my life , at a Buffet at Taj Residency and it was not half bad . I do recall it was Vegetarian , so hey no uncooked fish here , please !
So we went for lunch. Lovely place , ambience . We chose the separate lounge area which involved sitting on dug out floor benches. Quite nice. The food was good , but as a starter , the Miso Soup. with its stern gaminess was enough to put me off Japanese food for the rest of the meal. Its not the restaurant , its the Miso as a concept. Not happening to me at all.
The meat dishes particularly the pork and chicken were great. Takes getting used to . Whats different here is just a little delicacy in the food prepration, the hint of wasabi , and great but minimalistic presentation .
To be fair , I need to go back and figure out if there is scope for a sequel.

Domo superb
This place is as authentic as it can get. Even the head bearer at Zen (Leela Palace) says that for authentic Japanese food, go to Harima.
The settings are beautiful, with everything traditionally Japanese, and this isn't some place pretending to be Japanese, it's actually Japanese. In fact, if I remember correctly, there aren't any spoons or forks on the table, but chopsticks, and spoons & forks are got on request. Cool, huh? The food served is superb, and if you have a thing for sushi, this is the place to be. Located on the 4th floor opposite Bishop Cotton Boys school, this place is a paradise for those who enjoy dining in a quiet setting with the family or friends. And just a tip, if you don't know how to use the wasabi (horse radish) in the sushi, please ask them, don't end up blowing your head up by adding too much!
Apart from the sushi, the pork dishes are very good too, with the pork being cooked just right and not leaving it too rubbery or too dry. The staff are typical Japanese cultured: they don't talk unless spoken to, and all of 'em have a poker face and hardly show any emotion (the Japanese looking staff), except a few of the Indian waiters, who naturally whisper among each others with a devilish smile on :) , but don't get unnerved by such 'emotionless' expressions, that's how Japs usually are, it's business as usual for 'em.
All in all, fantastic place, and it deserves the full 5 stars that I am giving it.

Excellent Japanese rest.
Very good sushi, even better shabu shabu. Compares favorably with Japanese food at equivalent restaurants in the US and Japan.
Beautiful surroundings. Clueless staff and the high prices take something away fom the experience, though. Clearly they are not relying on volume for revenue.

Nice!
I am a hardcore Sushi fan and am always on a lookout for good Sushi places to eat. My favourite being Hiro Sushi in Toronto Downtown.
When I moved to Bangalore, I thought that I will have to give up on Sushi until I came across Harima.
It was really good and as close to authentic as it gets in this part of the world.
The Unagi portion could be a little less. Six pieces for Rs. 500 are a lot. They should offer it as a pair.
Anybody who has moved back to India and is craving for some good Sushi... this is the place to go.

authentic japanese for sure
well i have not been to many japanese restaurants before although i am always on a lookout 4 trying new stuff but unfortunately bangalore is not providing that much of a variety in this respect..of course what is popular is what is commercial..
so one day three of my equally adventurous frens and me went to harima on residency road..the well dressed watchman there, attracted our attention..of course after a long ritual of taking pics shot with him..we proceeded in..
the place was soothingly silent and the serene environment reminds one of those meditation rooms they show old japanese homes to have in movies..
the seating style is interesting and it really added an edge to the whole experience..
the menu is filled of names written in japanese (in english) and i strongly recommend not to order anything which sounds interesting without actually enquiring about it..
if you are a great fan of sushi and of course "caviar" which my friends tried out...go for it!
it is authentic and worth a try..
my vegetarian fren and me tried out a salad and another dish whose name i fail to remember..which was said to be a mix of bamboo shoot pickle and others..now that was the only spicy food among all and we enjoyed eating it..
as i said earlier, it was adventurous as we were exploring an "unknown domain"..
the experience was rich although we would think twice before going to a jap resto again..indian palate you see.
But i would gladly wanna point out that a japanese family consisting of two beautiful twin daughters was thoroughly enjoying the food...hence the comment -"authentic"!
