The Dhaba on the outer ring road off HSR Layout undoubtedly serves pretty good Punjabi food. For a change, the food wasn't too oily /greasy and was fair on the masala content. The portions were also sufficient.
However, the service left a lot to be desired, and after reading the other reviews here, I am wondering whether we landed up on a day when the regular staff was on a break. First of all, getting the waiters to understand our requirement was tough and it was even more difficult when we asked them to explain particular dishes. The food took some time to arrive and the way it was served left a lot to be desired.
The other aspect is the ambiance. It beats me why all the so-called 'dhaba-ishtyle' restaurants go to lengths to replicate the look of a dhaba (including uncomfortable seats and the ubiquitous movie posters), but the rates never reflect the actual dhaba rates...!

Location: Travel east on outer ring rd from the silk board flyover .. about 1 km ahead on the left side, you will see bright red neon sign saying "The Dhaba". Attached is another south indian restaurant Malgudi.
Ambiance: Not bad at all. The usual Punjabi dhaba decor .. rustic ambiance with film posters, lanterns, thatch roof etc. It was quite cozy actually. Its definitely meant to be a family restaurant. Air conditioning works good, music is neo-punjabi rock with just the right amount of volume. Seating and tables are nice and clean. Minor quirk: I expected at least cloth napkins instead of the usual paper napkins that you might see at the cheapest places.
Service: Efficient. 10-15 minutes wait time for food after ordering during a busy night. Order is taken by a host in a punjabi sherwani who will sometimes double as the server if its too busy. The regular servers could use some training to learn to smile a bit (I guess that's pretty much true all over india ... it just isn't in our culture to be friendly to customers).
Food: They have more non-veg than veg. I ordered veg only. But for you non-veg folks, they have an extensive menu of chicken, lamb/goat and seafood items Also a wine and hard liquor menu.
I ordered a paneer kadai and 3 butter rotis and a sweet cold lassi. The paneer kadai was awesome! Loved it. It was slightly over-spicy for me (since I am not used to spicy food), but for most of you out there, it would be perfect. The rotis were nice and soft as well. Though I was hard pressed to find any butter on them. But then came the sweet cold lassi which was neither sweet nor cold nor really the thick punjabi lassi one would expect. In fact, it was warm and very watered down! What a HUUGE disappointment. Got them to put some ice in it which made it passably cool (but not cold).
Cost: Rs 250/-
Overall, there were a few disappointments, but there were many positive experiences as well. I would go there again some day and I definitely recommend it if you are in mood for good Punjabi food.

So, The Dhaba, located at the junction after Brigade Road-which connects to koramangala, is a real awesome highway dhaba food joint...
Well, my friend had been here; having suggested it to me, me & him turned up here at around 8 PM on a Thursday night.
The first thing that greeted us was the elegantly dressed doorkeeper who performed his job with utmost satisfaction and poise. The door itself tells of what lies inside in wait. It is really an antique piece of the Punjabi culture...
The waiters dressed up in white sherwani with black waist coats greeted us next, and for a couple of minutes we were just wandering around lost in the ambience and the mindblowing interior decoration! Its unusual truck tyres hanging around, the posters of old hindi films are just amazing to see...!
So first, we ordered the Hara Bhara Kabab, veg of course, and, being western, two PEPSIs...oye, bhad mein jaaye pesticides...
I must tell you not to look at the right side of the menu while ordering anything...it is just worth the money...The taste lingers in the mouth for a long long time...
There is a small bar in the corner; they serve drinks and the beer is very famous... but according to me, such fantastic food cannot be enjoyed with drinks...! its left to you to decide!
The next course was the ultimate sarson da saag and makki di roti... which was simply heavenly in taste and we wanted to just sit there and savor the taste, till they threw us out!
You can try the desserts---- and and and this is a must try---the indomitable lassi! It is pure punjabi in taste and simply fills your stomach over the brim!
And btw, all the cooks are hired from Punjab.
An awesome experience, very expensive; value for money is 100%...
Check it out!
