Just desserts...

Must agree with the rest here that while the Lavelle Road place scores on ambience and setting (the tablecloths could do with a washing, though), the choice in terms of dessert menu was a let-down. Yeah, the menu comes to you like a Rolling Stones 4-CD box pack with a tongue-in-cheeky '20 Licks' emblazoned on the cover. You proceed to open the box to find the menu distributed across the faces of 4 CDs.

"Sorry sir, we don't have anything in sundaes and out of the remaining, we have (pointing at the menu) this, this, this and this..."

Ah well, we settled for the Champagne & Berry Mousse and the Tiramisu. Nice, light and fluffy, both with appropriate dribblings of some unidentifiable fruit sauce on the plate - hey, they're not called 'Painted Platter' for nothing. :) The cake / shortbread base on which both desserts rested could have been a little fresher though. The middle layer of the Tiramisu had a nice kick to it and the c&b mousse had a nice zing to it all through my 6 spoonfuls.

Came away pretty satisfied.

PS: When you ask them for water, make sure you tell them that regular water will do, if it'll do. We asked for water and were promptly billed for a bottle of Aquafina.

Different Locality, Different Quality!

Being one of the few lucky ones to have feasted on their delightful desserts in all of their outlets (JP nagar, Lavelle Rd, RT Nagar) in town, I must agree with the other two reviews. Though the quality of food is consistently amazing in this chain, but sadly, there is a lack of availability of certain items in all three places. On ambience, the Lavelle Road outlet is definitely the best, but availability wise, the one in RT Nagar is good. Overall, the experience is really worth it, unless you are looking to eat the whole menu up!
P.S: Try the chocolate sushi, you might just have to skip dinner for that!

Such a disappointment!

After reading many good reviews about the Painted Platters in Jaynagar, I was delighted to find out there was one right on Lavelle Rd as well - closer to home. Unfortunately, it didn't match up to any of the reviews. The location is rather cozy and the place is well done; however, the desserts are another story. After presenting a tastefully done menu (ours came printed on a CD) with tantalizingly tempting dessets like the "Missisipi Mud Pie", our server broke our chocoholic hearts by telling us there was NOTHING available, except for three things - the hot chocolate fudge sundae, Dark and White Chocolate Sushi, and tiramisu.

We settled for the hot chocolate sundae and the sushi. When the two came, our spirits slighly soared. The presentation was marvellous, especially of the Dark and White Chocolate Sushi, which was dark and white chocolate mousse rolled like a sushi roll in paper-thin hardened chocolate. I dug my spoon in with glee but was left with a mouthful of slightly tart-tasting mousse! Not only was the mousse not fresh, but it was also not stored at a proper temperature. The sundae was a little better, provided you could get past the tart whipped cream (that had fallen flat) and reach the teensy-weensy bit of chocolate icecream underneath.

Dejected with the whole experience, we left Painted Platters hoping this was just a one-off experience and vowing to drive to Jaynagar next time instead!

Getaway on Lavelle Rd

I discovered Painted Platters by accident. It's a cosy place for dessert
with outdoor seating. Since it's on the quiet lavelle road you don't
have to worry about noise and dust.
They specialize in crepes. We had the banana crepe with blueberry sauce - it was good but i thought it was a bit overpriced.
The sundaes were yummy (the vanilla with chocolate bits made me very happy).
Although Painted Platters is mainly into dessert, the place also has a small "European" menu with pasta salads etc.
The ambience was perfect, with the right number of trees and the right amount of warm sunshine. The floor is filled with pebbles and there's garden furniture that gives the
place a casual feel.
The menu is tucked into a novel and the bill is also presented the same way.

I was so impressed with the ambience that when i discovered they had a branch at Jayanagar,
i drove down from my home in JP Nagar one afternoon. I drove around for 20 mins trying to
locate the place and was disappointed to see that it was nothing like the lavelle road place. This one was just an ice-cream shop, right next to a juice shop, in an unremarkable street.
