Veggie Italy

Ok, first things first. I checked out burrp for reviews on Little Italy and was in for a shock when I learnt after reaching the place that they serve only vegetarian food.

To say that sipping wine and eating tomatoes and mozzarellas wasn't my kind of a thing, but the wine made up for it.

The service is pretty ok and the best part was wine tasting as the faithful host was kind enough to let us sample most of the wines in the list.

The place has a nice sitting area on the outside which I think was the best place, especially in the evening. A decent place with prices slightly heavier on the wallet.

And once again.. it's a veggie place.

Callous attitude

We'd made a reservation for 6 and upon arrival, were seated slam bang opposite the restroom...close enough to be 'treated' to a view of the interiors everytime the door was opened. When I protested asking for an alternate seat, I was given the 'take it or leave it' treatment! I of course left it...didn't think it'd be too nice to have decidedly unpleasant smells wafting in over the aroma of their risottos (which I love). Promptly went to Via Milano and had a great meal in a very chic and friendly ambience!

Bottomline - while making a reservation, tell them that you really don't want a seat with a 'view'!!!!!!!!!

Revisit: Still not worth it.

I had sworn never to visit this place again ... but then a friend insisted on treating me there (he was new to this place and really wanted to try out italian). Oh well ... his money ... so we go there (in my defense, I did make a modest effort to talk him out of it).

My comments from previous review below still stands. Decent food, but hardly italian. Still missing a lot of things in terms of both ambiance and food that would classify it as italian food. Wait staff still sucks for the kind of prices they are charging - essentially they are no better than any normal xyz-sagar restaurant wait staff - never smiling, ignorant about what a good quality service should be like etc.

Bottom line - The price simply does not justify the experience. Go there only if someone else is paying for it !

Why Scrounge on the Decor

The 4 stars are clearly only for the food. The decor is ageing and it shows...chipped walls, rickety furniture...u can feel it.It has begun to feel like any ordinary place...tables too close to each other...etc etc
The wait does not know a thing about italian food...the classic issue of no training....
The food is excellent..and the only reason to visit...
At these prices they better do a damn good job of the upkeep...
So my major grouse is about the decor and the staff...hope someone is listening.
The way Bangalore restaurants are rocking...it seems no one bothers to listen...let the moolah roll ..damn everything else seems to be the motto

Good food, but rather expensive

Ambience: I got the 2nd floor place with cozy little sofas and low tables ... looks fairly nice and chic, but I opted for the regular tables for the comfort of eating.

Service: Somewhat slow. Waiter gave me wrong change at end and I had to correct him. Staff is not very knowledgeable about proper way of serving Italian food ... heck .. there wasn't even fresh grated pepper or parmezano cheese (the essences of Italian dining).

Food: I ordered a coke, an eggplant parmigiana, caesar salad and Tiramasu for desert. Set me back a total of Rs 700/- (that's just for me alone). The food was fairly good but it doesn't compare to even the regular fare olive-gardens or johnny carinos that you find in the US everywhere. There was no pasta with the parmigiana (which I thought was a normal thing to expect). The bread served was just regular american breakfast bread rather than garlic bread that you might expect at a good italian restaurant. No butter or olive oil or roasted garlic bits or anything like that with the bread.

The biggest letdown was that when I spend Rs 700/- I expect to come out of there with a full stomach. That didn't happen. The portions were really small (ok, I wear an XL shirt, but still .... ).

My take on this place: OVERPRICED for the ambience/food-quality that you get. There are other better choices out there. You might want to go here just once to test it out.
