Mughlai-e-khazana

Excuse me for trying my hand (mouth actually) at names very Mughlai, but this is one place where in spite of having the buffet served at the table, I liked everything and didn't feel disappointed I couldn't go a la carte (although I did crave for it later since this was pretty good by itself). I visited the the place with colleagues for a birthday lunch, and since it was a weekday, we had to make do with the sitdown buffet. The first thing that you notice is that the place isn't overly decked up and isn't loud with the decor. Nothing very Mughlai about it, yet it's extremely pleasing and it's almost as if you're somewhere else (you certainly forget that you came through the traffic in Koramangala).

There are 2 menus for this buffet: Jasmine and Lotus, with the difference being the former has an extra non-veg starter and non-veg side dish for the main course. We started off with a tomato shorba, which although yellow in colour (I wonder why), it tasted very good. Among the starters (2 veg and 2 non-veg), the mutton sheekh roll was decent, while the chicken was good. I didn't care too much for the veg sheekh kabab, but the crispy potato cutlet was very good (this from the guy who doesn't like potato too much). However a sad aspect about the service came to the fore here. We were a group of 13, and so it was obvious that the plate of starters they were serving from could get exhausted before they finished serving all 13. However, they didn't have another plate ready, and when one dish was over, they'd move over and serve the next one, leaving some people without the previous one. The item that wasn't served was then served almost at the end, after all the starters were done. That was annoying at the very least, and terribly disgusting at the most, and I hope they fix that soon.

For the main course, a basket of naans and parathas are served along with a mixed veg curry (which was very good), a paneer dish (which wasn't bad, but I've had better), a mutton dish (one of the best I've had in a while) and a chicken dish (again, very good). The usual yellow dal was there, and after the breads came the veg pulav. The pulav wasn't bad, but neither was it something that made you sit up and take notice. But I guess that's to be expected when it comes to a buffet. For dessert, it was the usual Indian combo of gulab jamoon and vanilla ice cream.

The buffet food was good, which only makes me that much more eager now to go a la carte. However, I just wish the service improves, not just getting over the serving fiasco I mentioned earlier, but things like getting water when the it's over (I seem to be getting hit a lot these days with this water not being served when your glass is empty). Parking could be an issue as they don't have valet parking, and so you'll have to parallel park on the main road, or find a spot in one of the side roads. So in a nutshell, great food, very nice setup inside, and if they can only improve on the service part, 5 stars all the way baby. Definitely a place to visit.

Mughul-e-Burrp :)

Caught up with so many of my old friends / colleagues after a long time and I suggested we should go to umerkot based on the burrp reviews. Believe me, they were all very happy looking at the place.
This place is built on mughlai theme. Akbar, the Mughlai king was born in Umerkot and that’s how, this restaurant got its name and theme.
They've tried to give a royal touch by making the floor shiny too apart from the lighting and the hangings

All of us, straight from work, headed to our table which was booked in advance. The settee was apt for us to relax after the hectic day. We started ordering our drinks and starters and just could not wait them to get on to our table. We were all damn hungry

The drinks were the usual. The corn and the chicken starters were good and the masala papad had had 3 small papads per plate. There was also a complimentary Papdi with a unique chutney. It tasted very different and yum :)
The main course was the rotis, kulchas, naans with subz jugalbandi which had all the English vegetables more than the Mughlai with mughul masala. The Dal Makhni was cooked to perfection. The non-veggies loved chicken to the core. It left them wanting for more….

Desserts – Gajar and Khajur ka halwa and the Gulab Jamoon were out of the world!!

For the 7 of us, the bill was 5.5K

Overall a good experience and recommended for a different dining experience

Good Food

Landed here with my family and friends on a weekend and found a place soon enugh. Nice starters, especially non-veg as we are the same by choice! The Raan and the layered chicken dish are amazingly good. The biryani took forever and was not top of the line. Could have been better. Service was good and the bill did not make me choke. Would recommend the place definitely for NWF food. Good stuff...

Great North Indian Food

Thats all I have to say. Some people have commented that there need to be more items. I say they make only what they prepare best. Must visit.

Veggie choice is not really good

Happenned to be at Umerkot over the weekend. Food defn tasted good but i must add tht the veggie choice was not too vast. Will be great if a few more soups and veggie rice items are added to the menu
