People hit u where it hurts!!!!!!!

Just as we r coming into terms with the fuel hike that our dear government enforced, we have 2 get over the fact that my absolute favourite Benne Dose is costing more....
Bein close 2 my place i am a frequent visitor.So it probably hurts me more. It is after all very sad that my place of homage is probably biting n eating into my wallet..
I here by call my fellow foodies who feel the same way 2 join me on a strike(not on a hunger strike of course)just boycott the Benne Dose(Some sacrifices r 2 b made 4 the overall good)....

crispy,tasty ghee masala dosa

this place is famous for its benne masala dosa, which is awesome. its quite a small dosa, you can have 2 to 3 dosas easily. Even more tasty is the two variety of chutney that they serve.
Mangalore bajji served here also tastes good, but the rava idly is not quite upto the standards of the dosa.
A good place to have a quite bite in the evenings and sunday mornings. The flip side is that you will have to wait for long before you get your table and dont expect ambience

Excellent Masala Dose

Benne Masale aka., Butter Masala Dosa is in high demand in this little hillbilly restaurant. Walk in on a Sunday morning and it may be a long time before you get seated and an even longer wait for your order to be served. In most cases, one dose is not enough which means you wait longer for your refill order. And yet, the frustrating delay is totally worth it for the dose is outstanding - to put it mildly. At the end of the meal, the waiter will hand out little pieces of old newspapers cut into squares which serve as paper napkins!

CTR in Malleshwaram, Vidyarthi Bhavan in Basavanagudi and Udipi Krishna Bhavan in the heart of Majestic/Chickpet are legendary for creating consistently great tasting Masal doses. All 3 places are reminiscent of life in the sixties to people who have been around since then. These restaurants have not upgraded with time, preferring to retain their original ambience which is now antiquated, but thankfully without compromise in food quality.

I'll quit rambling at this point and strongly recommend that you drop whatever it is you are doing and rush to any of these three places post haste for some delectable Masal doses. Plan to eat two or three doses for best results. Since the three places taste different, you will want to cover all of them at some point.

Btw, dose with an 'e' is the original South Indian name, corrupted as "dosa" by the British and adopted by the English speaking population of the country. Some of us prefer to retain the original name.

Benne = butter in Kannada.

best masala dosa place ever!

this place stands for one thing, thats masala dosa! i've eaten in a lot of places all over bangalore, and by far i think this place is the best, infrastructure wise its below average with tables n chairs that make the place look like a kindergarden classroom! but once u get your first taste of the "benne massale" they are renowned for, you'll forget everything else. you'll want to eat atleast 2 or more of those...! while your order is being processed in the meanwhile you can get some good mangaluuru bajji's...! the place gets a bit crowded in the evenings but that wont be much of a problem...and dont expect eye candy, the place looks decades old with no upgrades...which actually gives a good rustic feeling...
