Great food, great service

I have been to this place several times before and always had a good time. But this time it turned out to be truly memorable.

It was a Saturday so when I called them at 12:30 pm to check for tables, I was expecting to hear no, but to my surprise they said we can come by 1pm. The person at the reception showed us in and seated us promptly. The waiter came up and served water. He greeted us with a smile. My 3 year old daughter is very fond of this place for the she loves the breadsticks with the cheese dips that comes in the beginning. So when the waiter told us they were out of breadsticks, and served roasted papad instead, she got disappointed. The waiter (named Jena) noticed it, and went in, got hold of a few breadsticks they had, asked the chef to make a cheese dip and got it for us. And all this even without having pestered them for it.

We had the kakori kabab (one of the best you get in Bangalore) and paneer tikka that comes with cheese an dmashed potato sandwiched between paneer slices. As expected both were excellent. For the main course we ordered the chicken with a spring onion gravy (the name escapes me right now), and it was great. We had a roti each and ordered for the dum biryani (lamb). I had the chicken biryani here on earlier visits (chicken biryani here is not a dum biryani, but just chicken with gravy mixed with rice). I must say the dum biryani was superb. Most places the meat in a lamb biryani is very chewey and not very easy to gukp down, but here it was soft and tender. Perhaps one of the best biryani I ever had.

The service was incredible and never did anyone, the waiter, the captain or anyone else seem rude. Its a great place to for kids too as they enjoy the decor of the train compartment. It has become a hit with my daughter.

Poor compared to its Hyderabad branch

Having been to SSS in Hyderabad, I had high expectations of this one; I was let down with a resounding thump.

The quality of the food was poor to middling. Nothing to write home about. The paneer tikkas which were mouth-watering in Hyd's SSS, were hard, tasteless and cold here.

The lamb entree was good, and that was the highlight of the evening. The rotis were cold and rubbery, and the vegetarian entree (seemed to pass off as cauliflower) was, to put it kindly, rubbish.

The restaurant was plunged in darkness for several minutes - power cut? short circuit? Either way, the incident just worsened my experience.

The lighting was terrible. We had to squint and strain to read the menus. I finally had to pull out a pocket torch to read the menu.

The service was nothing great. The waiters were ignorant or ill-informed of the menu's contents, and the captains/head waiters were uncaring. At least they didn't spit in our food - let's be thankful for that.

Overall, a disappointing experience.

GREAT THEME AND BIRYANI

Went to this great place with a couple of friends. First of all the theme took me by suprise, a British Ruled India platform, the train cabinet was amazing, the details, the sliverware, the outfits of the captain simply fitted.

The food ofcourse was great. The Kababs were very filling. The biryani was no doubt the best i've ever tasted don't know if Samarkand beats this.Very rich and very tasty.

The expensive part was the cost of the mineral water, Rs.75/-.

Service was not very satisfactory.

All in all a very great place for good food.

Don't go there.

So I was pretty disappointed with Sahib Sindh Sultan yesterday.

1. We arrived at exactly 8:50 pm for our 9pm reservation. Table was not ready. Despite the threat from the restaurant that they won't be able to hold our table for more than 10 minutes beyond the reservation time.

2. We waited till 9:25 to get our table. I asked to see the manager
when we were seated to complain, but he/she didn't turn up.

3. Attitude of the staff was, basically, go elsewhere if you don't
like the situation. So that's what I'll do.

This is not the first time this has happened to us. We patronize them
regularly, and never has our table been ready on arrival except when
we went there early in the evening (around 7:30).

I'll never recommend the place to my friends or colleagues. Nor will I take my guests there anymore.

There are better options in Koramangala. Try Umerkot for same or better quality food. Also try the new Indian place under La Terrazza, opposite G.K. Vale in Koramangala (forgot what it's called).
