Rude staff

Starting from the lady at the reservation desk to the waiters all of them were rude. Looks like they prefer people from high class society only. Too pricey for bad customer service.

Awesome!!

Well to start with, I was taken to this restaurant by one of my friends telling me that this is the best restaurant for North Indian food and oh boy, did it live upto the expectations! Well its been 2 years since and I have never missed an opportunity to treat myself here.

The first time I entered here I felt like I was going into some freezer but as you go in the temperature just sets in. The seating is a bit uncomfortable esp for the tall guys, but the food pretty well makes up for the flaws. As you just occupy the seats they serve you a basket full of flour sticks with an assortment of chutneys and mayonnaise sauce, its a great time pass while you wait for the menu card (btw its complimentary!!). The menu is very limited for any regular restaurant of this kind but the choices on offer are of high quality. The menu is a bit surprising because it looks like a special edition page of your daily newspaper.

Every time I come here a Paneer Tikka and Seekh Kebab is a must as starter; a plate of panner tikka can easily be eaten by 3-4 guys. Take my word for it the Paneer Tikka thats prepared here is the best I have ever eaten and am sure all those who have tasted it will share my views. As for the main course, in those days when I was a non-vegeterain I couldn’t miss on the mutton biryani thats served here. Now as I have turned a vegeterian its the usual rotis and curry, I like the rotis here as they are baked to perfection. Coming to the desserts, they have a limited choice with Kulfi being highest on my list. And hey; they have an inhouse Panwaala who makes some great pan, do try it.

The service is effecient and the guys are dressed up as Pathans with a petha or a pagdi, if I am not wrong.

As for the wallet effect, a meal for 2 will easily cost you 1000-1200 bucks. Considering the quality of food and service, thats value for money. A word of caution, do not go here without a reservation on any day/any time or else be prepared to wait for 45-60 mins minimum, they do have valet parking. Last but not the least do not forget the Paneer Tikka.

Still good food

Samarkhand is one of those restaurants that has somehow maintained its food quality over the years. It used to be great. Now it's merely very good, but that's still better than 90% of the restaurants in town.

The ambience is very striking with high stone walls and large paintings with mock "flames" created using lights. A major annoyance is the seating, which is very low and often is a problem with friends who are a bit on the heavy side. On the other hand, it probably discourages people from lingering there too often. It's packed most of the time, despite this.

The food is very high quality, but the menu is fairly small, and has not been changed in years. I recommend the galawati kabab, which is minced meat with spices, made into a patty and pan-fried. Mind you, it's incredibly heavy and loaded with animal fat, so don't order too starters. I also recommend the nalli ka salan, a dish of lamb shanks in a spicy gravy. The mutton biryani, too, is well-known, and very well balanced in flavour, though they may run out on a busy night.

Vegetarians, this really isn't the place for you. You will find vegetarian dishes on the menu, but this is meant for meat lovers.

But I must say that while the cuisine is supposed to be north-west frontier, half the menu is Indian dishes like dal makhani, dum aloo, chicken tikka, etc. I hope the management will get more adventurous and change the menu some day.

Booze is not cheap, about 150 bucks for a small vodka last time I visited.

Veg Lovers - Can Avoid

Ambience : Different but sometimes lights are very dim & sitting place is uncomfortable.

Service : Nice but never ask their suggestion as they will suggest you the food which they made in great quantity. even we have seen they will try to serve same dish to every one.

Food : Veg is ok, but i heard non veg is realy good.

Price : Seems over expensive for veg

Always go after reservation!
