Colourful

The first thing I would tell you if are going to Oye Amritsar is, please have the lassi, and be sure you have the appetite for it. It is tasty and at the same time, served in a monstrously large glass ... balle balle!

Ok, my first reaction when I stepped into the place was, 'overdone'. The decor is good, and they have tried really well to create the dhaba look (so have Angeethi, Punjabi Times and others) but they have tried too hard; the lights, the khaats, the posters and the deliberate typos in the menus; goes a bit over the mark. Anyways, once you are seated for about half an hour, it seems fine. The seats are comfortable and the tables are large so no problem with the seatings at all.

The servers and waiters are very prompt and friendly, plus patient as well. We twice took our own leisurely time when ordering when the person taking the order was made to stand next to us, but there was no complaining or urging to order fast. Once ordered, stuff came in good time.

The noticeable thing about the fare is the bit of innovative thinking put into the dishes; vodka pani puri for example! Although being a Mumbaikar I didn't like straying away from the conventional pudine ka paani, it seemed nice to try for a change. The vegetables are well prepared and quantity is decent too. The cauliflower was half-cooked in all our dishes though, that includes a starter. The chicken is good, and well cooked tandoori is always a great sign!

Cost, slightly over-priced in the starters section, especially since the starters are pretty average, the paneer tikkis for sure are. The drinks are fine, desserts are like any other place. A meal for 4-5 with few drinks (and lassi) puts you at 2000-2500 bucks, more depending on the drinks.

PS: It would help if they make their name-plate clearer, it is difficult to find the place.

A good start

Imagine the heartbreak of a Delhi boy in Bangalore. A city that fails profoundly in the Punjabi food department. Given this, however, I think Oye Amritsar does a half-decent job.

Yes, on Church Street, Angeethi and Queens are always options. But what sets Oye Amritsar apart is its sense of humour! It goes a long way in lowering one's defences, and makes you feel comfortable. The decor is unabashedly Punjabi, and will certainly make you chuckle! :-) The food is a tad expensive, but I think the size of the servings and the quality of the breads makes up for that, partially at least.

I think the criticisms of the reviewers before me are mostly well-founded. Anyway, if you're as pedantic as I am, I think you'll agree that this place does Punjabi food MUCH better than most other pretenders in Bangalore. The rooftop, pseudo-dhaba ambience certainly helps. Anyway, until I finally get around to visiting Tandoor and/or The Legend of Sikander, this is probably my favourite Punju joint in the city. Aaho! :-)

Good Food Yes - Amritsari NO

I know Amristari khana and this is not it...it was good, well cooked but not the authentic.

We went in late thursday night and it was crowded. Gimmicky it was and the ambience was fun. The service was a little out of place with a lot of waiters running around..

All in all enjoyable but Amritsari - no way..

Authentic Punjabi food? really??

Four reviewers before me mentioned this place has authentic punjabi food. But to my surprise other than the titles of the dishes in the menu there wasnt much punjab in the food...

My wife and I were served Lassi, which was an unusual sour kind (definitely not Punjabi). The starters were good, but not as spicy as the usual Punjabi chicken dishes are.

The Oye special chicken, wasnt very special either.

I'll suggest you eat at this place if you want to taste Punjabi food (but with lesser spice)...

No hard feelings towards this place but I'll prefer Angeethi and Queens anytime over this one if I feel like having Punjabi food.
