My father had heard about this place and we decided to try it this past Sunday. We were disappointed when we called ahead and the host said they don't take reservations. What kind of restaurant doesn't take reservations?
Well, Rajdhani doesn't because it is in the open air mezzanine food-court of the UB City Mall. So, we had to wait, although not long because we'd gotten there a little before 1, which is early for the Sunday lunch crowd.
This place is thali-only until 4, when they start to serve from their snack menu. The thali is AMAZING! You're served dals, khadi's, sabjis in little katoris, with ghee-topped rotis and chappatis, rice and khichri. There's chaat and kachoris, pappad and dhoklas. For sweets there was walnut halva (decadent!), jalebis and moti-choor laddoos. And all of this is served unlimitedly.
It was as if we were important guests at a Gujarati wedding, and the servers kept swooping in to dole out more. They weren't stingy with anything - the deserts, the ghee, the curries were served with glee and abandon.
The food was delicious, flavorful but not incredibly spicy. The service was friendly and relaxed.
According to my mom, until we find a Gujarati bride for my brother, we will be back here often!
