Get Namaste'ed at Ada Hind Ki

We should look for someone to eat and drink with before looking for something to eat and drink... ~Epicurus

A few of us friends meet around once in a month to wine and dine ourselves in a restaurants. Usually we try different restaurants everytime we meet, so in that spirit we decided to check out Ada Hind Ki. A new restaurant on Museum Road in Bangalore.

On arrival at the restaurant, the porch is sorta like hotels so one could drive up the door of restaurant and hand over the car to the valet. Three people converged on me to take the keys of the car when I stopped. A bit over-enthusiastic perhaps, but can't be faulted on that.

One has to climb a wooden staircase to reach restaurants upstairs. I am not a big fan of those because they creak with every step and remind me that I need to get rid of that paunch which prevents me from seeing my errrr.... feet. Once I climbed up the stairs two ladies dressed up in traditional attire, probably awadhi because that's the cuisine that is served there, greeted me with a big Namaste. Now, I am all for Namastes in big restaurant but it felt extremely weird. I wasn't sure why that bothered me till I realized that not only they had their hands folded (like it should be) but they bent down by a huge amount. So much so that it felt completely artificial and stupid. I asked for my table and the enthusiastic waiter again did a big Namaste to me and took to the table where some of my friends were waiting but not before someone else did another Namaste.

They have indoor as well as the terrace seating. The decor is contemporary although I liked the terrace better. The table tops are designed like wooden matrix. They look great but things can, and do drop from those holes.

Lets talk about drinks. I ordered Mohito and it was brown in color and it left me searching for a mint flavour in it. A friend ordered Mai Tai and it was more of a pineapple juice than a cocktail. Considering these drinks were priced in excess of Rs 350/-, I would recommend people to stay away from them. After those we switched to good old Smirnoff with lime cordial.

For starters we ordered Punjabi Pakode ki Chaat which was basically batter fried vegetables with curd and other garnish on top. Not bad but nothing great either, worth skipping in favor of something else. The chicken kebab that we ordered was great and so was potato pepper fry (cooked baby potatoes tossed in pepper sauce).

For main course we ordered Paneer and Chicken with assorted breads. A very safe bet as far as North Indian food goes. Usually after a few drinks and starters, main course is but a formality for us but the fact that I liked it means I would love it if I skip the starters.

There was no coffee available and we were way too full for desserts. The bill was around 5K (including tips) for five of us. When we were getting ready to leave we were greeted with, you guessed it right, Namaste!

Overall, a good North Indian place that is worth a visit. They can't replace the wooden staircase but I hope that they tone down on their Namaste. Get more class, instead of their backbone, in it.
