Vishu lunch 2012-04-14
Very ordinary spread. Service was bad even though there weren't many people. Portions were very small. Banana leaf and all that was fine. No spoons, forks. I would like to have an option, ideally. Had to remind the waiters that we weren't served papad, rasam, buttermilk. No finger bowls either. Had to walk outside the hall to a washroom at the end of the corridor. Not happening!! I asked for a little ginger chutney to be packed. I was rudely told to pay Rs. 225 + taxes and buy half a kilo. Not at all happening. Will never go there again. vembanad - average food 2011-04-13
for starters we oredered squid with some half cooked masala which was terrible.
the Allpey fish curry gets a thumbs up...well cooked and tasty
the appams were served cold.
the mocktails are decent and refreshing.
the coconut payasam was a FIASCO it was like northindian rice kheer with no flavour of coconut at all. -

Great food - but too expensive for what it offers 2011-02-23
There's no doubt - the food at Vembanad is really good....amazing Alleppy fish curry, to-die-for dry mutton dish whose name I forget, and truly wonderful Appams and Kerala parathas. The service too is pretty decent. The decor is also nice enough - traditional Kerala look.
But the prices are stiff - with just 2 beers (costing Rs. 600) and 1 desert (Rs. 255), the bill for the four of us came to Rs. 4000. Now I don't mind paying Rs. 1000 per person, but just for food with almost no alcohol and no desert......I feel its too expensive. Great on a company account - too expensive for... read more -

My friend offered me a treat so we went to “The Paul and after I was given a choice of Moghlai, Coastal or Continetal food, I chose coastal and walked in Vembanad.
The restaurant is nice and cosy and you get the feeling that you are inside a lavish Bungalow in Kerala.
The menu is not very extensive and offers very few choices, considering the vast Malabar cuisine at their disposal.
