First and last mistake 2012-05-20
I had gone there for the first time and was expecting a great experience thinking that The Esplanade will be good enough just like it's other competitors in Bangalore. My experience can be summed up in just two words - epic fail !!!!
First of all they have chosen a name that roots deep into the sentiments of Bengalis - Esplanade being one of the most important places of Calcutta since the British Raj. Obviously when you enter a restaurant with such a name your expectations fly high.But you don't need to hold on for too long till they are crushed

I had been to Esplanade with the office team about a couple of years back..i remember liking the place in terms of service, food quality and portions..this time after 2 years, I realized, that Esplanade may shut soon! Shabby an understatement, pathetic service, tables were stinking of sweat/pee, napkins had dirt and stain on them, ambiance now feels like a mallu-mess. Of course, this place is for those who wants to have some delicious Bengali food and this place will live upto that. But the two major concerns are Price and Wait time. The prices are exorbitant may be because of no competition and wait time is almost an hour. Though the taste is authentic, the wait time is very irritating. Even if no customer is there, they will take an hour to bring your order. If you are ok with price and time & you are craving for some bengali cuisines then thhis place is worth a try - at least once in a blue moon. -

I am not from bengal but I have tried ample bengali places in Bangalore, I liked the service, speed and quality of the place. I wish they had a buffet. -

Long wait and awful food ! Manager's attitude ! 2011-10-26
We went to a less than half full Esplanande at 2:25pm. They served us only at 3:15 ! Their excuse 'We start from fresh for all orders'. Most orders were the same, they could have done some process improvement and clubbed the orders.
Worse still, the food was pathetic ! The Ilish was stale, super deep fried and hard. The dal dint have an ounce of water and almost solid. Even the mangsho did not have any taste. How bad can you go with meat ! I am a bengali and can cook all of these items better ! Bhojohari Manna, the bong food joint next door is so much better, quicker and tastier. no wonde... read more -

Horrible experience 2011-10-07
I had the worst buffet diner in my life at the esplanade.
I went there on 05th Oct 2011 by seeing their menu card online. Trust me guys it is not at all worthy of Rs.675.
The topshe fry was horrible. It smelled like anything. The prawn was okay. Hilsha was not good, also they are serving it cold and less quantity and the size was tooooooo small. Lets come to chicken..it was okay as compared to mutton..mutton was like..I cant describe it in words. They made the sweet as sweet as possible so that you cant take more than one. 2011 Puja buffet experience -Horrible 2011-10-06
Buffet was priced Rs675 per person.
Our experince during Lunch Navami day 2011.
Fish fry -atleast 7 days old. Smell was coming.
Tapshe fry -cold but better than fish fry.
Rice /Polao/Alur dum -good. We are not spending 675 for VEG dish that too Aluuuu.
Luchi -Was only item very good.
Hilsha -Cook do not know how to prepare. 5 times worst than home. Fish quality was very bad, no taste also all fishes are broaken.
Prawn from 30 days old cold storage, no taste.
Mutton -black colour, over cooked and burning smell was coming. You cannot take this.

Good ala cart !! average buffet!! 2011-08-26
Well i'm a frequent visitor of esplanade. I love the doi murgi & kosha murgi with loochi & pulao. The people are also very simple & cordial.
The price to value proposition (value in terms of taste,quality n ambience) fits best with esplanade.
Buffet can be improved. Atleast esplanade never stings of fish unlike quite a few other bong restaurants in town.. -

Really Average 2011-08-15
I am a food lover. I heard about esplanade from my friend who liked the restaurant very much. Hence, I visited the place yesterday 14Th August. Honestly speaking, I didn't like the place so much. It is just OK.
Below are few comments:
1. There was no one at the entrance who can guide us to the place.
2. The food was not at all worthy for Rs 500. I find Barbeque or other Bangali restaurants are better. Spending 2100 RS was really not worthy at all to me.
3. There was NOT so exciting food for a vegetarian. No paneer, No Posto, and no echoor. Really, not so good food.

Great Food! 2011-05-18
I went with my bengali friend so we had the good fortune of ordering all the right dishes. I can't quite remember the names of all the dishes, but we all throughly enjoyed the food! A special mention about the raw jack fruit curry - it was yum! -
