  • It should be a crime to force a SERVICE CHARGE !! 2012-05-23

It had been a while since my hubby and I had treated my parents to a nice fancy meal. We had been to Samarkand before and always enjoyed the service, ambiance and food quality. But paying a 1000 RS tax on our 2000RS bill was just ridiculous.
I dont know in which country a fine dining restaurant forces customer to pay a 10% mandatory service charge, over and above the VAT and Service Tax.
Post this disastrous event we had another great meal at Esplanade in Kormangala who only charged us a Service Tax and no VAT or the stupid service charge. We tipped them happily and generously (not 10%!!

  • Hunger was invented for this place 2012-05-22

I havent been to the North west frontier - but if this is the kind of food that they are serving out there, it sure is worth the adventure. As you enter - the aroma immediately triggers of a hunger pang and i must admit the wait for the food
seems an eternity - but when it finally arrived it was just superb. The kababs were nice and juicy and i havent had them so right anywhere else.

Want really really good food. Its the Swat valley - but for the less adventurous - Samarkand is as good as i can imagine.

  • Very heavy price for decent food & ambiance 2012-05-01

Been to this place for their famous Gosht biryani. Had bad experience cuz of having no response or apology on finding hair in food. Also the bill came with service tax (5.5%), service charge (10%) and Vat (14%). So we paid 29.5% above the food bill.
The food was ok made with high quality ingredients, the ambiance was decent but never worth this price. there are much better restaurants in Bangalore where u can get better food at this price.

  • Too Hyped!!!! 2012-04-13

"Never miss this place" was what my friend had told me but believe you me i think otherwise.. First things first its way too expensive, and is not worth it. I had the most talked and hyped food(Sikander Raan)and couldnt even finish 10% of it and to add to that the chairs are so short which makes one feel as if they have been punished for going dr....

    My ratings:

    Ambiance: Average
    Time to service: Good
    Taste: Not as expected
    Pricing: Very Very Costly
    Value for money: 3/10

I will not visit this place again.

  • dont miss. 2012-02-19

While being a high end place, the amount and the quantity of the food served is totally worth the price! The menu is promising, and once again it lives up to it's promise by every bit as far as taste is concerned but the portions served are quite small when compared to the price.

  • Elegant.. 2012-02-14

After hearing a lot of good things about samarkand from my friends, I finally decided to check this place with my family. it is known to get really crowded during weekends, but I visited it on a weekday. Hence, as soon as we entered, we were escorted to our table. All of the dishes were excellent.. definitely one of the best North Indian food I've ever tasted. The portions were good too. However, this place is quite expensive but worth it & good for special occasions.
Overall, I had a pleasant experience at samarkand and wouldn't mind visiting the place again.

  • Must visit. 2012-02-03

Samarkand has a varied platter to offer to its visitors and a delicious one at that. Since a long time Samarkand has comfortably slotted in to the top restaurants of Bangalore and nevertheless it has remained popular. Dining here is rarely a disappointment which is why I find myself drawn here every time I step in Bangalore. Samarkand offers some of highest quality North Indian cooking at prices which are worth the food and not exorbitantly set up unlike some of the rivals.
The most luxurious thing on the menu here is the Sikander Raan which is marinated lamb and The Murgh Makhani. Simple ingre

  • Good Food 2012-01-26

The interior looks like a take on Bukhara at the Maurya Sheraton, Delhi. The menu seems to have nothing to do with Samarkhand. The food is tasty and the service is efficient. The food is on lines with North Indian/Mughlai cuisine and is rich to the style. Worth a visit.
