Samarkand has a varied platter to offer to its visitors and a delicious one at that. Since a long time Samarkand has comfortably slotted in to the top restaurants of Bangalore and nevertheless it has remained popular. Dining here is rarely a disappointment which is why I find myself drawn here every time I step in Bangalore. Samarkand offers some of highest quality North Indian cooking at prices which are worth the food and not exorbitantly set up unlike some of the rivals.
The most luxurious thing on the menu here is the Sikander Raan which is marinated lamb and The Murgh Makhani. Simple ingredients, sublime execution. Remind yourself to save space for a biryani even if you want to overdose on some other delicacies; that is probably because you'd never want to eat biryani elsewhere once you've eaten a spoon here. They're lighter than most others, and more aromatic. The last time I remember ordering Murgh Peshwari to take a break from the usual and it was a triumph. The meat was succulent and splendidly scented with hits of cardamom. In the end, Kulfi would be an excellent choice and aims to soothe the palate after a fiery meal.
The feel of the place is perfect. Conversations are lively, everyone seems very happy to be there, and the restaurant pulls no punches. Service is unfailingly enthusiastic though not always very coordinated. The atmosphere has a lively, fun buzz to it during the afternoons and is quieter during the later part of the day.
On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best, I give Samarkand a 4 for Value, a 4 for Service, 5 for the Food, and 5 for atmosphere. Easy to see why it is popular. A well deserved reputation and very highly recommended.
