For me, HYGIENE is THE FIRST thing I look for when picking a salon. In the initial years of moving to Bangalore (~3.5 yrs ago), I had a VERY difficult time finding a clean salon and a good hairdresser who understood what cuts go with different types of faces. One of my colleagues recommended Prabhat at Salon Nayana and he was really good.
Anyway, the next time I took an appointment for a haircut with Prabhat, but upon stepping in the salon, I was told that Prabhat doesn't work there anymore and that some other female is free and can use my hair as her guinea pig! I thought to myself - "how bad can it be?!" The place charged close to a 1000 bucks (~3 years ago) and I already had had a good cut there once - I didn't have a reason to doubt.
The female (rather a F*#$*%$&* mad scientist) started chopping my hair before I could utter a word and tell her what I want! I stopped her right away - explained to her what I wanted and the layer lengths I wanted, but she ignored me and went on in a mad frenzy. I thought to myself, "I don't mind experimenting with my hair and going short or long - I shouldn't be so uptight. She deserves a chance".
But HELL NO!! I had a NIGHTMARE of a cut - it would have been better had I shaved my head with a razor myself!! To make things worse, in the middle of the haircut, a HUGE HUGE HUGE and DISGUSTING COCKROACH came out of the inside room and some of the staff ran after it with their equipment and stomped it down in front of everyone and killed it. With the guts of the roach lying around on the floor, the staff burst out laughing loudly over their victory!
I went to the restroom and threw up in disgust! I told the female at the payment counter that I was EXTREMELY unhappy with the salon and my cut and that I wanted to meet someone who can fix my hair right away. I was told that the owner had expanded her business to Indiranagar and that I can stop by there for a fix.
I cancelled my dinner plans, and drove down to Indiranagar right away. One of the hairdressers there tried to fix my hair, but he said it was beyond repair and there wasn't really much I could do, but let it grow out at that point. I saw the owner, a mid aged female, at the salon right then and decided to tell her about what I saw and my experience. At first she said something like the roach incident just CANNOT happen in her salon. When I grew FURIOUS, she called up the Kormangala branch, confirmed the incidence and told me something on the lines of "o well, yes, it happened in my salon...too bad - I can't do anything about it...what's the big deal anyway".
Anyway - so that was my experience with Salon Nayana and it WAS A BIG DEAL to me. I haven't stepped back in there since and I definitely won't recommend this salon to ANYONE! I deserve A LOT better! EVERYONE DOES!
