I am back in Bangalore after 15 years and find that finding a good eating place has become harder even though eateries have proliferated. So when a friend suggested lunch at Richies I went with trepidation.
We ordered mixed starters, Roghn Josh, Chicken Patiala with parathas and Mutton Biriyani.
The ambiance is fine and one can go with respectable company. However the decibel level of the customers is quite high. Maybe because of this the waiters don't listen to polite beckoning. The service is rag tag and totally unsatisfactory.
The food however is quite good. Particularly the biriyani is very good.
Good biriyani is never prepared with basmati as is done outside Bangalore and Ambur. The overpowering scent of basmati kills the delicate aroma of mutton and other masalas. Authentic Bangalore / Ambur biriyani is therefore always prepared with zeerak samba, a small grained rice which brings out the flavour of biriyani. Try to go to a Muslim wedding in Bangalore and you will know what I am talking about.
I was pleased to see that Richies have done the right thing.
Therefore despite very bad service it is worth going there
