One star for first impression!

I loved the ambiance in the first place, elegant and contemporary wen u enter, kinda eerie and antique wen u sit down and almost gets weird by the time u leave! The waiters dressed appropriately, menu card looking perfect with dishes u wanna try (shorba for soup, always makes me wanna try it which i wudnt otherwise!) adds-on to it.

The food was good not anything great for the price paid tho. The dahi kabab was awesome i should mention. Starters are not for the veggies. Great lassi, as should be. The egg parantha was a let down tho. We tried Methi, onion and a few more paranthas. The flavor was slightly different but by the end u get tired of eating the similiar thing! We were provided with meat in the biryani, although we ordered for a lucknowi veg one! duh! Thank god we were completely filled by then we canceled the order, else for the amount of time taken to serve, we wud ve never caught the movie planned after the dinner waitin for the biryani once again!

The service is ok except for the slow delivery and smelly dresses of the waiters (done on purpose?) and yea tho they almost served mutton biryani on a pure vegetarians plate without warning or excuse! Anyways no complains otherwise..no space and time for desserts either!

PS: I wud've given a 3 star if not for the awesome ambiance i was impressed with!

Much ado about nothing..

Being from the north, It attracted me instantly and had the food within my first week in Bangalore...

The tfirst reaction was that Shit... thats expensive... very very expensive.. but atleast it wasnt such a bad total experience... But now when I've been here a couple of times... I think its a blot on the Old Delhi name which is known for its hospitality... The damn starters take longer than a normal main course... ah.. you keep waiting till eternity for fresh lime or other beverages...

For a place to be called "more than Paranthas" the basic glitch is that they don't serve Curd with it.. If you ask for it separately.. they ask me that they'll have to figure out whether they have it or not... Damn.. parantha without curd..!!

Then things like they don't have "katoris" to serve... makes me wonder why am I paying 100 bucks for the parantha... With Pakoras in the menu.. They did not have that either.. and no attempts were made to arrange for it even with it being a "star" item on the menu....

Guys no old delhi experience here... this place looks like a shady bar... food is average.. service is awful.. the menu items are mostly unavailable.... ah... don't spoil the Delhi name please.. and Exorbitantly EXPENSIVE shit

Unchi Dukaan -Phikaa Pakwaan

Second time out and the place still hasn't improved in service and serving size.

The beer still takes 20 minutes to come as though its being brewed in the kitchen, the food is undercooked, the serving size small, the service snail paced, the attitude nawabi(read lazy) and the overall experience BAD.

So bad was the experience that i was prompted to join Burrp and express my anguish. What a waste of 2 grand.

I would warn people of going to this restaurant, and I am surprised to see positive reviews about the restaurant. I am guessing its the owners posting positive feedback.

BOTTOMLINE- If you want to waste money and time on pretend delhi food- you're on.

True to its name...

Going a la carte is probably the best way to experience the flavours of a restaurant, and that's what a buddy of mine and I did. He'd been here before and was ranting and raving about it so much that I had to go. So Saturday night, off we went (also since it was his last week in India, kind of the last supper (dinner) without any betrayals :) )

As we entered, the lighting and the decor looked very nice, and the menus were very creative indeed with their appearance. And although the lighting was a little dim for me to take photographs, I guess it went pretty well with the rest of the settings.

After a round of drinks (one for the road) of Bloody Mary and a Signature, we started off with the mutton soup, which although lacked even a fibre of goat meat, tasted and smelt great. We also ordered a mutton starter and ajwaini fish. The mutton tasted good, but I thought it was undercooked. Well cooked mutton should separate from the bones easily, and I had trouble tearing it off the bone, so even though it tasted good, I didn't quite like the fact that it wasn't cooked well enough. The fish was miles ahead in terms of taste and 'touch'. It was soft and flakey, like good fish is supposed to be.

For the main course, we ordered mutton keema parathas and a mutton side dish, which is by far the best mutton dish I've had in a long, long time. It was well seasoned, well flavoured, and the meat was tender. After that, we shared a kova stuffed paratha for dessert.

The service was good - efficient, warm, prompt, and helpful when it came to selecting dishes. Although me friend had told the owner that I blog about places I eat at, I didn't see any 'extra' attention being given to us - it was the same to the other guests too, so I give them full marks for that. Now for the bill. Hold your breath, and hold onto something. With the tip, the two of us raked up a bill of Rs. 2400 (Rs 2219 + tip, which we rounded off to 2400 ... yes, I'm old fashioned and believe that a tip of 10% or thereabouts is a sign of decency and maturity and so I don't act cheap when it comes to tipping at a place I thoroughly enjoyed eating at). Did we walk away regretting it - No. Did we walk away happy with what we ate (overall) - Yes. To me, that's all that matters!

just about average

Well its an expensive place for being just about average...yes they have quite an extensive range of parathas but the one i took tandoori alu, took me till the end of the meal to figure out if there was any alu in it at all..the serving size is small but service is efficient..the cost overrides any good thing about the restaurant..be prepared to spend a lot of money on food that will leave u wondering y u went there in the first place.
