I started wondering. Why do I go out to eat?
1. Wife says NO COOKING today
2. I feel like eating some cuisine/preparation which isn't part of my daily ingestion
3. I am drunk and I need food
4. I am curious
A combination of reasons 2 and 4 drove us to P!ng on a Friday evening. 1 won't be mentioned again "get's a smack on the face"
The first view of P!ng was into its kitchen, gives an assurance of the good kind.
We ordered a couple of dimsums (both steamed and fried), the Eight Treasure Tofu and the Burnt Garlic Noodles along with the strawberry sundae.
The steamed dimsums hit us with it's wonderful smell first and then our tastebuds later, dancing along with the fresh sauces which were on offer.
The fried mushrooms were exactly the way we had NOT imagined, was not oily and unbearably spicy.
The burn garlic noodle had the tingling mild flavour of garlic and was not pungent. It is a must grab! The eight treasure tofu was reduced a few lesser treasures , but was tasty nonetheless.
The lady being an expert on icecreams and all things which come close was overjoyed on her first scoop of the dessert and refused to budge to my requests and taunts to share it. The strawberry sundae was rich, full of flavour and was not sugary!
A few random thoughts:
- The food was less on spice and more on flavour, very important if you want to enjoy ANY food.
- The next day, our stomachs were intact, considering my uber sensitive stomach and the growing complaints of artificial flavoring and additives and the fact that eating out will screw you, this is a welcome thing.
- Curious, we met one of the owners who explained me that the sauces were usually prepared fresh and not taken from cold storage (which we could relate to)
- Being new, Service is ought to be good and am happy it was, on time, courteous, pleasing and more importantly, the waiters KNEW what was on the menu and capable enough to recommend/suggest with reasons. I hope that it stays that way!
Why will we go to P!ng again?
1.Excellent dimsums and sauces
2.Desserts are the way they meant to be, unlike the ones which you shove in to your stomach to cool it post the binge on spice.
3.Have you heard about bubble tea? We hadn't and we still haven't tried. Will try to remedy that soon!
4.Moderate prices!
5.The lunch buffet is tempting, considering the quality of food coupled with it's value for money!
Overall, an experience worth repeating, be it a lazy weekend dinner, one of those self sponsored team lunches or a quick grab of dessert on the way back home (hush without the lady's knowledge i.e.)
