My tea house is the brain child of Dr Anil Rawat, a "cafe" that offers only tea. I have been a regular here since the day it opened. For the plebeian coffee-day crowd this place is just a silly little joint with slow service. But for a connoisseur of tea, this is utopia! a haven for all things tea!!
Tea house has over a hundred varieties of tea to choose from mostly Indian but plenty of international choices. From the fruity Darjeeling first flush to the subtle and musty Assam supreme, this place has the finest collection of teas from all over the world.Tea house has been trying to change the way teas is served in the country.Dr Rawat explained to me on one of my visits that the humble CTC dust tea, though just a by product of the tea industry, is the most widely consumed beverage in the country. He has stocked a wide variety of teas and from experience i say that no two teas are the same.
The place is run by the very courteous but rather loud 'gowdre',the maître d'. Apart from suggesting the right kind of tea to choose he also ensures that the regulars are treated right at home. The service is horrendously slow on a crowded day but the entire atmosphere calls for a certain quiescence, that is lost in today's pub culture. The omelettes(cheese and masala) are exceptionally good but rather inconsistent in flavour. The tiny kitchen serves up reasonable snack-fare but very mediocre lunch range.Try the omelettes, parathas, potato wedges and the exceptional variety of tea cakes that are baked fresh every day.
If you have read this review all the way till the end then i would say the tea house is my pick for a quiet weekend afternoon.Take a good book or a good friend and be surprised.
