  • I wish I could give it zero stars 2012-05-14

Only God can explain the number of people that flock this restaurant as if there is no other decent place around. My father is one among the crowd, and sometimes without any other option I tag along. They have singlehandedly spoilt the MTR Rava idly eating experience for me which was something that I used to treasure from childhood. I think the chef here has won a lifetime supply of asafoetida which he so generously empties into the sagu. You can actually taste the South Indian cook's influence on the North Indian dishes. If you order a Rava Dosa, you get only half the size of the usual Rava dosas,... read more

  • 5-star South Indian 2012-03-25

The South Indian full meals are simply awesome. MTR finally has a worthy competitor. Bad North Indian and Gujarati are to be expected (though not excused). The 5 star is for the awesome South Indian only.

  • Worst north Indian taste and dangerous sweets. 2012-01-07

This was my 5th or 6th visit and believe me it has been consistently awful, be it south Indian stuff loaded with excessive salt, the north Indian gravies without any aroma or taste but only some tomato base. Their variety of sweets (have almost bought all the stuff they have just to evaluate the taste and quality) everything is either mediocre or below average in taste and quality, the hard type of mysorepak felt like loaded with vanaspati (Transfats) most of them taste like more of maida (refinedflour) less of khoa in milk based types and other types have a cross odor of some other fried food... read more

  • Maiya's - A little hyped 2011-12-22

Couple of months back decided to head for a South Indian dinner with family.
Checked with friends and settled on Maiya's.
Fore warning : Book before you head out there, was my friends advice and duly so did a booking for a Friday evening and ended there at a late 7ish.
Saw a huge pile up of crowd, I was left wondering if I could even secure a place.
Finally my review after my experience at Maiya's.

Ambience : Just as any South Indian restaurant ,bright , tables well laid out and perfect for an eating experience.
    Rating : 3 on 5

Service : prompt , quick and

  • Not Worth the Hye!!! 2011-12-14

We, a group of around 15 went for dinner wherein they charges a whopping 350 per plate, the reason being the food was served in silver vessels. 38 items were listed in the menu, which includes stuff like pickles, small papad, big papad etc (See how cunning these people are). Although there were around 15-16 items as a wholesome item, none of them were spectacular, most of them can be termed as average. Overall the taste was 3.5/5, but not at all for the worth of 350 (At the most Rs200 can be given). As such i recommend this silver thali a utter waste in terms of value for money.

  • Very ordinary fare 2011-12-12

Hype..hype and more hype...long ..long queues....have tried south indian meals(not worth 145/- tastes just like any other darshini), gujrati thali(1-2 items will be decent rest ordinary), dancing kadhai(yuck soup- never take that palak carot shorba) - pathetic stuffed roti...gravies are full of uncooked tomato paste especially their special ones...uncooked starters...and going downstairs...180/- per kg for rave unde(rava laddoo) and crazy prices for pretty ordinary badusha(some 320/- per kg) and finally any(ANY) bakery in Bangalore makes a decent and crunchy pakoda(onion based)..Maiya's one was... read more

  • Good, authentic Karnataka food 2011-09-19

Had been to Maiya's with a group of 30 people. Had booked the seats in advance, so did not have to wait in the queue for a long time. They are usually very rigid about the schedule, so please make it a point to be there on time if you have reserved earlier.

The food was very good with authentic Karnataka taste. Although the crowd is a little too much, the food quality is definitely worth it. There were a total of around 25 items all served unlimited. But I would suggest that have each of the item with only the quantity served by them initially. There are just too many items.

  • not that great !!! 2011-07-24

Had been to dancing kadhai which is the north indian section of Maiya's.
the ambiance is fine . We ordered Bharwa aloo tikki for starter . the menu describes it as aloo tikki with cottage cheese stuffed inside .. but there was no trace of cottage cheese / paneer in that and the quantity was very less. for main course we had roti and paneer tikka masala . the roti's were fine but the sabzi was not at all tasty and it was very salty . subz biriyani was ok. couldn try dessert .....
overall not a great experience .
from a place like maiya's expectations were more .....

  • Show me something which doesn't taste good !! 2011-07-13

This was probably the 10th time I had been to Maiya's. Have been to all sections...Dancing kadai, Gujarati,South Indian meals and snacks. Perfect place to dine, which is hygienic with excellent food and service . Dancing kadai on the 5th floor serves North Indian cuisine. Mouth watering starters like Potli kebab and some other zucchini based starter(don remember the name) were excellent. The Gajar and palak soup was the best in soup section. Amritsari Kulcha, Laccha paratha,Dum Biryani, sabz kofta were perfectly cooked. Cucumber Dosa served on sundays only on the 1st floor south Indian snack section... read more
