Good Stew 2011-12-16
Went back after a real long time to Karavalli.
Gateway seems to be under renovation and this seems to be the case for the restaurants too. The mosquito's were a bit of a bother.
On the food - Went specifically for the appams and the stew - and thank god - it still tasted nice. Finger licking nice in fact.
Hopefully they finish the renovation fast and also get rid of the mosquito's -

No forgiveness for mediocre food at 5 star rates 2011-08-15
After driving around in circles looking for a place to eat, with parking space in the streets of Bangalore, which by the way is harder to spot than an alien, in this city, the husband drove inside The Gateway for two reasons.
A. Valet Parking
B. Past experience with the Karavalli restaurant that served some great food.
I did not regret going in for the first reason. The valet did a good job of parking our car and getting it out when we were done.
It is the food that was a big dampener.

Average for the price 2011-05-23
On last saturday night had gone to Karavalli and it was a mistake from the start - the weather was really hot and sitting in a restaraunt which had pedestal fans meant the ambience was humid from the start. the service staff were courteous but we need to WAIT a lot for the starters & drink but munched on the free papads. the fish "meen pollichathu" was an apology and Kudla outclasses this any day - it was dry and tasteless. the chicken starter was outstanding. main course of hot appams and stew was decent. with drinks and desserts, the bill was 6k for 3. I won't be going here again. -

Easy to Understand Why Karavalli is Tops 2009-10-11
Having heard and read that Karavalli is one of the best Indian restaurants in Bangalore and potentially the country, I knew I had to give it a try. I was even more thrilled to learn that I would be sampling Mangalorean delicacies. I'm a huge seafood fan and coastal cuisine is probably me and my husband's favorite. There is something about the fresh coconut used to prepare the curries that is so satisfying. It's not like the thick creamy coconut curries I have become accustomed to. Probably the best Indian 2008-10-05
Probably the best Indian food you'll get in a decent setting in Bangalore. Overall, taste and quality exceeded my expectations, even with the rave reviews this place gets. Lovely ambience to. You wanna try Indian, go there. But mind that even 'less spicy' means 'very spicy' by our standards. -

Karavalli is a restaurant that used to be good. Outstandingly good. Especially in its first few years, the fish was fresher and the appams were always crisper. Unfortunately, the years took their toll and the food became tired and pretty uninspiring. Which was when I stopped going there. They now have all these very impressive looking certificates up against the wall but those don’t count for much. Especially not the ToI ones. Let your tongue and your stomach be your judge.
