I had been here for lunch on a Sunday for my birthday cum wedding anniversary treat. We were 7 of us. Our initial plan was to go to Maiyya's in Jayanagar, but on reaching there we found around 200 people waiting. They informed us in a not too friendly manner that we will have to wait for a minimum of 1 hour. This did not go down too well with our stomachs, so we decided to go to Kamat Bugle Rock.
And I'm so glad we did because Kamat Bugle Rock offers a totally unique experience. There is melodious classical music playing in the background, friendly waiters, unlimited and tasty food served on banana leaves.
We had to wait for about 30 mins, but this was ok because there were chairs for us to sit in and we had classical music to keep us company. When we got our table, we were treated to a variety of North Karnataka dishes which were totally yummy. Some of the dishes that stood out were
1) A sweet condiment of ripe mango - Dont know what this is called, but for a mango lover like me, it was heaven!
2) Jolada rotti + yengai (brinjal) - Authentic North Karnataka dishes. A refreshing change from the regular fare served at other south indian restaurants.
3) Holige - This was THE best dish. It tasted totally like mom's homemade holiges. Soft and mildly sweet, this is served only in the Special meal.
Add to this salad, rice, rasam, sambhar, a couple of palyas (sabjis), chili bajji, buttermilk, icecream with fruit salad (again, only a part of the special meal), bananas and pan.
All in all, you get a completely satisfying and value-for-money meal.
