My friend was leaving to US and as always there was some pending treat from my end. We both, on an impulsive decision, on a weekday after office hours headed straight to Samarkand. As expected, the restaurant was full and we had neither made advanced bookings. Thanks to the impulse decision we made.
However, the receptionist directed us to Hypnos. She mentioned, they serve the same food as they do at Samarkand. We were just too happy we got some place and happily settled there to have a never ending discussion and some good food. The best part about this place is, there’s hookah available. I found many preferring hookah to the drinks here. We took neither as the health wasn’t all that great with both of us.
Started with some really nice Tomato Shorba. They make it very well here and the quantity is just apt for one. So, one by two doesn’t make sense here. The breadsticks as the accompaniment with different dips were indeed amazing. After this, my friend suggested a started made of Baby Potatoes. I believe he’d eaten that last time. He tried hard explaining it to the waiter and I was hoping he understood the same. When it actually came, it turned out to be something else and extremely spicy. We could hardly eat it. Definitely not waiter’s fault. I guess we could not articulate it well to the waiter.
There are not too many choices for veggies here and I was kinda disappointed as there was no Veg Biryani. That’s when the same waiter came to our rescue and said, “There is Veg Biryani available but, its not listed in the menu.” That was it. We ordered the same and waited. As it arrived, the vessel in which Biryani, I noticed was brought was covered with the dough. He had to cut it through and serve the food. The aroma was so good and I felt its spreading all over and I was just too eager to start digging into it. It was served with some good gravy and raita. This Biryani changed my opinions on all the other biryanis I’ve had in so many places all these years! The taste was SO delicious, I dint want to stop eating this. I stuffed myself with the Biryani like never before.
The quantity they served was high and I got the remaining Biryani packed so that I could relish the same at home next day.
A sumptuous and delicious meal for 2 would cost around 800 – 1000 bucks without drinks.
It’s a very nice place to go if you relish the Afgani food!
