The umami of authentic Japanese food was on our minds.Since we were not in the mood for a session in ITC Gardenia's Edo ( Tokyo set-menu at Rs.5000 plus tax per head) we decided to target another establishment. Harima remains possibly Banglore's only stand-alone Japanese restaurant, and we elected to explore its appeal on a weekday night.Sitting on one of the upper floors of a nondescript building on Residency Road, this place didn't even have its lights on to attract customers, and even the staircase was not conspicuous. But we were seasoned Ninjas and soon manouevred ourselves into the vestibule... read more

  • Authentic Japanese food. Value for money. 2011-12-26

    Basic Info:

Authentic Japanese food by a Japanese chef. Nice, modern ambiance. Low seating available too. Good alcohol. You're not going to regret this.

Located in the heart of Bangalore, Harima is a great option for Japanese food lovers- both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. There are enough opitions for both. Keeping the over all experience in mind, I would say the food is well priced. Harima's menu is VAST. There are items like the tempura (basically fried vegetables) for those who want to be on the safe side and a good variety of seafood for the experimental ones.

  • All good... 2011-09-30

Wanted to try a cheaper Japanese place that had the quality of food... We found it at Harima's. the starters were great... And the maki rolls yummy... My pink lemonade was the best... What made me happy the most was the fact that I ate everything with chopsticks... the price also was reasonable... In all totally it was good...

  • good sushi 2011-08-11

we were looking for some authentic sushi place in bangalore and then we came across this place. We ordered salmon and caviar sushi and tempura. Sushi was great but the wasabi wasnt as strog as it should be... we then ordered rib eye BBQ which was simply awesome and a must try. we also ordered chicken teriyaki and asahi beer to go along. the total bill was 3500 INR for 2 people. THe ambience was nice with lots of Japs. Overall good food though prices are on the higher side.

  • Authentic and great japanese food. 2011-06-20

The salmon sushi was excellent. Great service and ambiance.

Harima may be a little hard to find on the 4th floor of a not so hap looking Devatha Plaza. But if you are looking for a authentic Japanese experience in Bangalore, then you need to be at Harima. On entering the restaurant we were greeted in both Japanese and English.

What surprised me was that almost all the tables were occupied by Japanese people and they were all talking in Japanese. Some were office groups and some were family. This gave me the feeling that you get authentic Japanese and not Indian Japanese here.

  • Authentic japanese! 2011-01-26

We had a memorable dinner at Harima on my b'day last week. ok kind ambience.. Sushi was good. Liked the california roll too..I would never forget the desert 'Uji Kintoki'.. when it came it looked beautiful. It was grated ice with baked beans and condensed milk.. i could not finish it but that was a unique desert... Place is quite expendive.. Our dinner came to 3.5k with included (soup, prawns starter, chicken starter, sake, california roll , salmon sushi and tuna sushi...)

But Harima made my birthday special..

  • Good unique food, hefty price, mediocre service 2010-08-08

You know the place that has a bunch of Japanese people in it has to be good. In short order:

    a) Good Authentic Japanese Seafood. No special rolls, go to Shiro's for that. But if you want slices of sashimi/sushi, go here.

    b) Nice Pork/Rice Dishes. If you're tired of Chicken in Bangalore, this is the place. The Tonkatsu was nice, just like any other fancy Japanese restaurant.

    c) Service: They were out of like half the beers they had the menu. The waiters were nice but very basic.

    d) Wow, this place is PRICEY! 400RS for a spicy tuna roll? Ouch. Again, it

Relatively unadvertised, the class of this place can be judged by the fact that it is frequented by Japanese expats. In fact, when we went there, we were the only Indians aronnd. A must visit for the true Japanese experience.

A week or so ago, Mrs. Meshugana was craving sushi, and being the indulgent husband that I am, we teamed up with some friends and headed to Harima's, on Residency Road.

Chef/Owner Mako is truly a master of the 'total experience', with great decor, atmosphere, and wonderful food. Sitting in the 'Japanese' section, with floor seating, or in one of the private rooms is a real treat, and kid friendly as well.

We went for the sushi, but of course some veg tempura starters, and various other delights managed to find their way to our table, I honestly can't remember it all but they

  • Great Japanese in Bangalore!!! 2009-08-13

While Harima has received mixed reviews in Burrp! my husband and I only have wonderful things to say about the service, quality, and taste of the dishes we received.

To be honest when our auto-rickshaw arrived at the Devatha Plaza I thought there was some mistake. From the outside there were no signs indicating that a hidden gem lay within. Harima is located on the 4th Floor of the building and I would recommend taking the elevator because the condition of the building is very poor. As we were looking for the restaurant I had convinced myself that there was no way that I would trust
