I finally got the opportunity to go to Golden Star Thali tonite for dinner. Check out the pictures. See Ashley Judd? What's good for Ashley is good for us too. That's the thought that brought us here.
The place looks okayish from the outside, but once you enter the doors the place looks like any other thali place. There are about 10-12 tables setup, with each table seating about 4-6 people.
The food served here is Gujarati and Rajasthani. It is served in a thali style. It simply means that you sit around and one by one the servers come over and start serving food in your thali. Check out the pictures, each thali has about 6-7 bowls for various kinds of veggies, dals and kadhi (for all ye northies - this is the Gujarati kadhi).
Today we were served the following mind boggling variety of stuff - Dal Baati, Dal Dhokli, Khaman, Green Kachori, Jalebi, Basudi, Dal, Kadhi, 3-4 kinds of vegetables, 3-4 different kinds of rotis (Jowar, Wheat, Puri, Bakhri), Rice, Khichdi, Chaas, Papad and many other items that I cannot even remember.
The food was very tasty. It's just that it was too much and I was overwhelmed as to what to eat and what to skip.
So just go here on a fairly empty stomach and eat till you drop :-)
Ps: the damage was about Rs. 200 per thali, but it was totally worth it. They also gave us four coupons. Ten such coupons would get us a free thali. Yum.
